Her heart may belong to the sea, but when duty calls, Tryniti Brooke de Láuront sacrifices her desires for a life on the throne. But did she make the right choice?
Tryniti has all the class of a well-trained, French royal and the fortitude of a sea-fearing pirate. This combination leaves those around her reeling and bowing before her whether she wants them to or not. However, her dual life holds many dark secrets, one of which only her family knows: that she isn’t any old pirate but The Black Rogue, a.k.a. the most fearsome swashbuckler who ever sailed the seven seas.
Her dreams of sailing until the end of her days are cut short when she receives a letter from her uncle, King Louis XVI, demanding her return so that she may marry and take her place on the French throne.
Tryniti’s entire world is thrown into chaos as she finds scoundrels and familiar faces within the court. One of which is Captain Sean Reilly, the man her uncle has procured for her hand in marriage. Now, she must sift through traitors and lovers while fighting for her right to rule, whether that’s all of France or the seas her heart belongs to.
The Black Rogue sets sail on a tale of love, betrayal, and sparks are flying more than just cannon fire.

***The Black Rogue: A Brooke de Lauront Novel*** Brooke de Lauront Series Book 1
If you like Johanna Lindsey books you will love this one.
In a world where stubborn minds clash with relentless hearts, Tryniti emerges as a fierce and formidable pirate captain, hailing from a prestigious French royal lineage. Unbound and fiercely independent, she has no intention of submitting to the whims of a patriarchal society that insists she marry the son of an English Marquis, Sean Reilly, a childhood acquaintance with whom she has long lost touch.
Determined to carve her own path as a pirate without the constraints of marriage, Tryniti fights tooth and nail to escape her royal obligations. Yet, when her brother is captured by a rival ship, she launches into action to rescue him, only to confront an unexpected twist: unbeknownst to her it is non other than Reilly who stands at the helm of the very ship she has just destroyed. A man she has such deep feelings for in just a matter of a few moments.
This gripping tale kept me riveted from start to finish. The author paints a vivid and immersive picture of life aboard ships and the vibrant landscapes of the Caribbean, Pirates Cove, and France that made me feel as though I were navigating these worlds alongside the characters.
The heart-pounding ship battles left me breathless, while the fierce stubbornness of Tryniti and Sean ignited a desire within me to urge them toward compromise.
I can't emphasize enough just how exceptional this book is. It’s a journey you won’t want to miss. I wholeheartedly recommend it!
This historical enemies-to-lovers romance brings lots of adventure, a little steam, and page-turning excitement! Tryniti Brooke de Làuront is a French princess by title, but a fierce pirate captain at heart. Captain Sean Reilly is a Marquis and a merchant. They are betrothed, but neither are ready to give up their love of the sea. Tryniti has been running from this marriage for several years, but due to political turmoil, has been summoned back to France to take on her duties as the Dauphine and finally get married. Will she have to give up her love for the sea and the hope for true love? Once I picked this book up, I had trouble putting it down! I was immersed in Tryniti’s adventure and loved her fire! Her temper sometimes gets her into unusual and compromising situations, and it was so entertaining to read! This was my first Ashley Brion book, but it will not be my last!
The Black Rogue by Ashley Brian is a historical romance with pirates!
I loved this story! So many twists and turns, I was always kept guessing. The strong pirate captain FMC was feisty and daring but did end up being the “damsel in distress” needing rescuing.
Wonderfully written with great character building, the story took me through all the emotions. And the ending? A complete surprise, you won’t want to miss out!
Ashley is added to my favorite author list, I can’t wait to see what other stories she has!
Well written and rollicking fun! Its the book for you! This book was just plain good in a fun way. I liked the weaving of adventure into the tale of the French Revolution. It is a well written and interesting take on it. A book that had adventure, the sea, politics, love , twists and turns and just plain fun is hard to find.

Sean and Tryniti. Yo Ho there be a female pirate within the pages of this tale and not just a pirate oh no she is royal. I loved this enemy-to-lover story. It is full of action the story moves quickly and it is very unique. There are parts that deal with some disturbing content but the author handled it well. I thought the book was done well and I am happy to recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
It was so well written. I could not stop reading. There were twists and turns, and I did not see the ending coming. I was impressed with the author's command of English and French. I was pleasantly surprised how good of a read this book was. It was a page turner that kept my interest and liked the characters. I could visualize the action, the locations, and feel the words jump off the page.
I loved this fun story with great characters, romance and intrigue. The dialogue was great Andi couldn't put it down. I look forward to reading more books from this author.

This swashbuckling romance is a wild ride, full of adventure, a dash of steam, and more twists and turns than a pirate's treasure map! Tryniti Brooke de Làuront is a princess by title, but a pirate captain at heart, and she's not about to let a little thing like an arranged marriage get in the way of her love of the sea. Can she outrun her betrothed, the Marquis Sean Reilly, and find true love on the high seas? I devoured this book in one sitting, and I'm still grinning from ear to ear - Tryniti's got spirit, and I am here for it! This is the second book by Ashley Brion and am loving her style of writing! Definitely recommend reading this book 😊
I love Tryniti! She's one of those characters who will inspire young girls to follow their dreams and never settle. She's a powerful, no-nonsense, fierce pirate captain but also a firecracker princess who doesn't want to conform to expectations.
There are certain things that are expected of her as a princess, namely marrying a man she doesn't love to take her place as the new ruler of France. That man? Captain Sean Reilly.
This story is packed with adventure, romance, and so much more.
I've never read a pirate romance, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Any time I can read about a strong female main character who doesn't take any grief from anyone, I will always be happy to read it, and this book was no exception!
Even though it’s a somewhat short read, there’s a lot going on in this historic tale. Sean is a merchant sea captain with a secret. Tryniti is a pirate captain and heir to the royal throne. These two are destined for marriage, even though it’s the last thing they want. This is a daring tale about enemies to lovers, and a city that’s being transformed by a revolution. Much like my own writing I saw a contemporary flare, in spite of this being a historical romance novel. I can’t wait to read one of the author’s contemporary tales to compare to this one! Check it out if you like historical!
I freaking love Ashley Brion. I was never a historical romance fan but ever since Letters from Home Ive been hooked!!! I mean, who doesn’t love a Bad@$$ FMC who is also a pirate???
This book has it all. Pirates, suspense, spice, and forbidden love. I can’t wait to see what Ashley writes next! If you haven’t read any of her books, go grab one! (Mashed Potato is my fave!)
I bought this book at an author meet and greet called Committed at the Hill View Manor. And boy, am I glad I did.
I enjoy a strong female character, and Tryniti Brooke is very much one. The Black Rogue is a quick and easy-to-read romance story. It is set around the French Revolution in the 1800s. Tryniti is a princess and has been spoken for in marriage to Sean Reilly, but neither is ready to wed. This story had some twisty turns that kept me reading it all night until I finished it. I even gave it to my Mother, who also enjoyed it.
Tryniti is a royal who is also a female pirate called home to marry and take her place. Sean owns a London merchant ship company yet loves to sail the seas. He is also summoned by the same king to return home. Both ships cross paths and several different paths are opened up. Both continue on their way after, for more surprises later.

This book was fast paced and exciting. It has a fun enemies to lovers type romance with dynamic characters that I really enjoyed. The romance was explosive and the spicier scenes between them had enthusiastic consent, which is always a lovely bonus.
There were a few moments I did not like, which led to me knocking off 2 stars overall.
*spoilers ahead!*
There’s two sexual assault scenes that greatly dampened my experience in the book. One was completely useless (could have been replaced with harmless flirting and held the same impact) and the other was too fast and glossed over to give it the correct emotional impact. I was not expecting them going into this book and I feel it was unnecessary.
The other was a side romance with an uncomfortable age gap that made me uncomfortable. I understand it’s historic, but the main characters have otherwise modern sensibilities, so it seemed off.
Other than that it’s a good, quick read. I would even consider buying a paperback to read on the beach.

I enjoyed the dashing lady pirate and her family. The escapades she gets into are exciting as well as the supposed connection to the King and Queen of France. The book cover is perfect for this story.
This is a historical romance story about a female pirate captain. I liked reading this because woman in these stories are notoriously portrayed as needing to be rescued, which I understand for the time it would be written for. However, Tryniti is a take charge woman and could take care of herself. Though sometimes we have to realize we need help even if we are a strong independent person.
Sean is a great partner for Tryniti. He is loyal and loving and is a great person to have in your corner. He assists Tryniti when she needs it most. I really liked how good of a person he was.
I enjoyed this story watching the love between Tryniti and Sean unfold. There was a crisis near the end of the book, but it showed how much they cared about each other in the end. This helped to stabilize and show that they were in love with each other for who they were and not just for the arranged marriage.
It was a sweet book, but not a favourite. I think for one it was a bit confusing reading the book because it felt like it was in like five different povs.
But I think the thing that i struggled with the most was the fact that the moment the fmc and the mmc met they told each other they loved one another. And the next day was their wedding. I found that to be unrealistic, and would have loved a slower burn. The book was set up so well with the fact that they where somewhat interested in each other but didn’t know they where betrothed. And I think this could have been played out more and better.
Another thing that I had a hard time with was the fact that the almost rape was just brushed past. I get that maybe Tryniti is supposed to be this badass pirate who isn’t afraid of anything, but I felt it should have been addressed or discussed more.

50’s housewife book club vibes. As a first historical romance goes it was okay. Some things I didn’t like maybe because of the time period it was set in which is the French Revolution or maybe because they weren’t wrote in the best of ways. I’m not a fan of the insta love and it didn’t seem like an enemies to lovers vibe, I get where it comes from but I don’t think it hit the mark. For me this was a 2 it was okay but it fell flat and I’m not going to continue the series but I’m proud of myself for going out of my comfort zone.
Ashely Brion is one of my favorite authors for historical romance. I am always excited for as chance to get to read her books. This book is action packed, and it has PIRATES!!! I love her writing style, and I always fall in love with the worlds she creates and the characters. Can’t wait to read more books by Ashley!
As always be mindful of trigger warnings, what I like you may not.
Pirates, spice and historical romance! What a great read! Strong, FMC that is a pirate captain and has yummy Sean by her side, plenty of suspense and steam & spice to hook you in and keep you hooked until the very end! Then you don't want it to end! I haven't read anything by this author before and I loved every page and can't wait to read more from Ashley! A great escape from reality read!!
French Princess, nah Ashley Brion has a way of writing that sucks you right in. Every time, no matter the subject. Take Tryniti, the French Princess turned Pirate. Who doesn't love Pirates especially a b@d@ss female one. This gives you all the mystery, suspense, and intrigue you may need. What a ride.
Tryniti just wanted to live her life on the Black Rogue and be a pirate. But fate is forcing her back to France to become the Queen of France. Also, now she has to marry some noble from England. She doesn't want to be pinned down. She wants to sail and free.
Sean doesn't want to marry some woman from France. He loves the sea and just wants to sail. This will be hard
Got about 40% through and DNF’d. the line that got me was “the servants knew not to bother me, or else they’d end up dead.” I’m not attached to any of the characters and the cheese is just too much.
