This is a book about the largest choir and orchestra organization of its kind. Millennial Choirs & Orchestras, or “MCO” is composed of over 5,000 children, youth, adult singers, and instrumentalists in five states, performing approximately 30 concerts each year, having gone on five national tours and released five albums. The first part of this book is about the history and creation of Millennial Choirs & Orchestras (MCO). As the author, I wanted to know the story behind the people who were inspired to start this organization. It covers a time period that goes back to when the founders of this organization were young children and will take you up to the point of MCO’s creation. Part I focuses on the Stewart family and what led to the organization of Millennial Choirs & Orchestras. Part II focuses on the result of the existence of this organization and is told from the standpoint of an observer. Part II picks up just a few years after MCO’s first concert in Segerstrom Concert Hall when my wife and I were invited by a friend to attend an MCO concert for the first time. While Part I told the story of the Stewart family and the inception of MCO, Part II will focus on my (the author's) introduction to MCO as a nonmusical and previously uninterested dad who now has two children involved in this organization.
This book tells the story behind the Millennial Choir and Orchestra. The first part of the book tells the history of the founders Brett and Brandon Stewart and all challenges and experiences in their lives which lead to them starting this choir and orchestra. They are both professional musicians who could have had successful careers in their fields. Instead they choose to start a choir that includes all ages and an orchestra to accompany them. The second part of the book the author tells in first person his observations as his children joined the choir. What is unique about this choir is that all the music is focused on Christ and very uplifting. When all the choirs (young, middle, and adult) they make a beautiful sound, as if a wall of music is surrounding you. It fills the soul. I know this to be true as I have attended several of their concerts. The MCO choir has now expanded into 5 states. There are some other interesting experiences about the choir that are included in this book. All of the choirs were singing in Carnegie Hall in New York City and the power went out. They had to evacuate into the street where they started singing there. Another time was during the pandemic when they could have concerts for 18 months. Instead they pulled together an amazing music video with the choirs singing outside made available for all to watch on the internet. If you read this book, you are going to want to go see them perform in person.
A historical narrative and commentary on the amazing choir my children are a part of. I enjoyed learning the organization's back story, looking at the photos, and hearing about different people's experiences with the choir's music, concerts, and events. Some of the experiences described were very close to my own, which shouldn't have surprised me. I recommend this book for anyone associated with the Millennial Choirs and Orchestras!
