Riding Red: a Faerytale Novella

Rate this book
Rider

I messed up. I knew it the moment the arrow left my bow. Now, the werewolves are looking for blood, and my only hope for survival is to leave everything I know behind. But even as I run, I know they aren’t the only creature chasing me.

Red

She’s mortal. It’s foolish to desire her. They are as fragile as they are brutal, a terrible combination. But I can’t stop myself from pursing the woman in the red hood. I’ve seen her riding, running, and I know they’ll catch her if I don’t first. But she is mine.

This was actually Bo Sleeps that I read by Chalan Johnson but it wasn’t available and it wouldn’t let me add the book myself so I choose this one.
I will add on my review of this actual book down further but this first portion is a review for Bo Sleeps.

I do love a good amnesia trope in a story and this has me guessing what was going on from the beginning til the end when things are revealed. This is a dark, paranormal Bo Peep retelling and it was perfect! I love this world that Chalan has started creating and her writing is wicked as well.

No wakes up in the middle of a field, covered in blood with no recollection of what happened and now her friend and co worker is missing and she can’t find him anywhere, her sheep are also missing.

Enraged, she sets off to find her friend, her sheep and try to piece together what the hell happened, but she also realized she’s picked up an unexpected guest that first manifests as a voice in her head.

Definitely recommend this read and her other work as well especially within this world, it’s so intricately done and thought out I loved it!

I do love a dark and dirty fairy tale. Riding Red was a fun, spicy, adventurous story. It introduces several characters that we will be seeing in future books. There were a few references to Cinder Glass's story which made me giddy.

Highly recommend this novella as well as Cindered Glass. However, this novella is much more lighthearted.
