It’s not every day you ask your best friend to get you pregnant.
Oliver Huxley has asked me out on a date every month for the last ten years. And every time, I’ve said no.
Yes, he’s a billionaire. Okay, he’s heart-meltingly gorgeous. And it’s true that he has a great reputation in the bedroom. Look, I have my reasons. He’s already broken my heart once. And I know he wants me only because he can’t have me. If I sleep with him, I’ll just end up another notch on his bedpost, and my heart won’t survive a second break. Whoever said it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all clearly didn’t know what he was talking about.
However, I’m nearly thirty and, more than anything in the world, I want a baby. But there’s a three-year wait for a donor for single women at the clinic, and they suggest asking a friend. I might not want a relationship with Huxley, but there’s no doubt he’s a great dad to his eight-year-old daughter. So I ask him if he’ll help me out.
He replies that he’s not doing anything in a cup. But he is prepared to try and get me pregnant the old-fashioned way. He says if I give him one night, we have a thirty percent chance of success, more than double what I could expect at the clinic.
One night with my best friend. If we sate our hunger for each other, maybe we’ll be able to move on with our lives and put this ridiculous obsession behind us. I know he’s going to be great in bed. But he’s not going to be that good.
USA Today bestselling author Serenity Woods writes feel-good romances full of friends, family, and falling in love. Most of her stories are set in Godzone, aka Aotearoa New Zealand, where she lives.
I enjoyed so much Cinderella and the Billionaire Boss, yet the current story didn’t win me over. I liked neither the behaviour nor the mindset of the main characters.
- Friends-to-lovers - H and h have known each other since 19. They were flirting otw to dating (i think) but H's estranged brother knocked up someone then H took the responsibility for this woman (he's still 19) he pretended to be the father and didn't tell anyone the truth, not even the h. Which I honestly think is the stupidest thing I've ever read! - The h got hurt and felt betrayed by this, who wouldn't? - According to one review, the H thought that after 15 months (pregnancy and until the baby is 6 months) he can still ask the h to be his girlfriend. I mean wtf dude, do you even use your brain? 😫 - Obviously, she didn't take him back, good for you girl! She didn't cut him off and they became friends for 10 years (both 29 in the present time) - They've dated other people in that decade but they both admit they're in love with each other even they're with other people, uhm, hello emotional cheating??? - He's been asking her once a month for those 10 years to go out with him but she keeps rejecting him - Then for the major plot, because of her biological clock, the h asked H to be her sperm donor but H didn't want to do it in a cup and he'll only agree if they'll do it the natural way. 😑
Welp, I'm so not reading this. This isn't for me and I'm sure this will only make my blood boil 😅
I would like to start off by saying that I really enjoyed the first book in this series and that the writing is good by this author. The storyline of this book is my major issue. Spoilers will follow, if you don’t wish major spoilers STOP NOW.
I have a problem with this as as a romance the actions of the main male character are definitely NOT love and the words in my mind are why oh why oh why?
So MFC and MMC meet 10yrs earlier and have a couple of great dates, showing huge potential for a relationship. MMC dumps MFC for what it eventually turns out to be an absolute farce. It turns out that estranged brother gets a girl pregnant. MMC at 19 decides he wants to help this girl who he had never met. He decided to pretend it was his baby? REALLY? He told nobody the truth! So he dumped the girl he was meant to be falling in love with to pretend to the pregnant girl’s ( remember who he just met) family that he was dating her?????? He thought he could wait 13 months ( baby birth plus 6 months) then ask the girl he was falling in love with (MFC ) out again? He actually thought she would say yes? For the next 10 years he keeps this secret, his brother is never told about the baby. His parents are never told about who the real father is. He pretends to the child that he is her father. Every month for 10yrs he ask the MFC (who is now his best friend) out yet is incapable of telling her the truth. Was he that desperate to help the woman who was the mother of his brother’s child who he hadn’t even known. Was he that desperate to be a father? If MFC was the love of his life, how could he throw her away so easily ? and think he would be able to just click his fingers when it suited him whilst playing daddy and she would just drop to his feet. Surely if he loved her he would have managed a conversation with her in those 10yrs to explain it to her. Unbelievably misplaced loyalty. He deceived everyone for what? This book left a real bitter taste in my mouth. If I was the MFC I would have been crosser with the truth as it is even more unforgivable as you would understand if it had been his child. How to make the MFC feel worthless again I reiterate NOT love. Unfortunately this has put me off reading more by this author as I was looking for a “feel good “ happy ending. This author’s idea of love and my idea seem to differ. Definitely not left with the feels in this. Disappointing.
The way this main character, Elizabeth, grated on my nerves like no other- I don't know what it was that rubbed me the wrong way, but I could not stand behind this fmc. Huxely deserved better throughout this whole book.
I was kindly sent an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
And listen, hear me out first.
I love Serenity Woods. LOVE her. She's my all-time favourite contemporary romance author, bar none, and I think I've read all her books thus far (except her Brides series, because I need to find e-versions of them that aren't for Kindle). It is very, VERY rare for me to not be 100% on board with what she writes, because her romance stories always reach deep into your heart and soul and have you connect with the couples she's describing.
One Night with the Billionaire Boss is definitely one of those, and has the same quality things we always expect and adore from the author: beautiful writing, the backdrop of New Zealand, a supporting cast you love to cheer for because they're all wonderfully fleshed out, a compelling story arc (for the most part, for me) and a happily ever after.
If you've read the first book in the series, you'll know that Huxley and Elizabeth share a past, which has also prevented them from being together even now, ten years later, though not for lack of trying on Huxley's part. He's asked Elizabeth out once a month, every month, for the past decade, and she keeps saying no to him. Then she asks him to be the donor for the baby she wants, and everything from past and present comes to a head against the backdrop of Mack and Sidnie (heroes from book 1) getting married in a beautiful yacht ceremony. Especially with a career opportunity for Elizabeth that doesn't come along more than once in a lifetime, but then again neither does one true love.
And here's the thing. I loved everything surrounding this. Huxley is legitimately one of the good guys, with strong moral principles and who makes sure everyone around him is comfortable, feels welcomed, and is taken care of. He's not a bad boy, he never really has been, and is, for all intense and purposes, someone who a lot of people would describe as a 'vanilla' hero, which I think, in their connotation would be bad. But I loved him, because he's everything good, and steady, and respectable.
As you can imagine, there's got to be something that's keeping me from giving this a glowing review, right?
That something - or someone - would be Elizabeth.
Reviewers have said that she grew on them during the course of the book. I'd respectfully disagree. My respect and viewpoint of her as a character declined rather steadily during my read. There's just simply something about her that left an aftertaste in my mouth I can't stand. I think it's because I didn't buy her in psychological terms as a person.
For one thing, she keeps holding Huxley's honourable choice back when they were 19 against him, and even admits - not out loud, but it's enough that it's inside her head, Mack says it out loud for us - that she's kinda stringing Huxley along and unwilling to make a go of it, not to mention going to England with the additional potential pregnancy thing to punish him for hurting her. Which, with a potential baby in the mix, I'm sorry, respectfully, is the worst thing a woman can do to a man.
Not only that, but even though she says over and over that he's her best friend, it's as if she doesn't know him at all. Everyone around her - their other friends - actually clocks into the big reveal way before it becomes a reveal, suggesting they have a much deeper base-level knowledge of Huxley than Elizabeth ever had, and let's not get me started on his fear of heights and that whole jumping scene.
Elizabeth has zero clue about phobias. I'll put it that way, in nice terms. If my sister, who is deathly afraid of spiders, told me she'd stick her hand into a crate of tarantulas to prove something, I'd believe whatever it was she was saying, not only because I'd want to spare her the trauma, but also because you don't say something like that just because, or because you want to get into someone's pants. Huxley wasn't going to throw himself into the deep if he really just wanted to sleep with her, and it's especially off-kilter that she seems to dismiss this gesture, but is SO convinced after he pops out a huge diamond ring. This from a person who, not too long ago, said that why make a commitment to marriage when you could just move in together and see if you were compatible?
The last straw for me was when she feels so superbly pleased after the reveal - which changes nothing, by the way, not in practice - when she thinks to herself hey, he didn't exclude her from his confidence and yet told everybody else. It's as if she doesn't really know Huxley the person at all, but has an image of Huxley in her head that no one can dispel - because she's told, over and over again, by everyone and their mother, that the man's been in love with her for 10 years, to give him a break, and to stop yanking his chain.
So yeah. As you can see, I have opinions on Elizabeth LOL. I don't know, her character just leaves me mad on Huxley's behalf, and I needed more of Mack literally shaking some sense into her. Titus and Victoria should have done it, too. I'm reasonably sure if I had a friend acting like Elizabeth ... hooo boy. Let's just say, I'm no one's yes person. She would have heard it from me.
HOWEVER. Rant about Elizabeth aside. One Night with the Billionaire Boss is definitely worth the read because, I have to be fair. Just because I had issues with the heroine doesn't mean the book is anywhere near bad. I was transported away for the one afternoon that I read it, and Ms Woods' writing remains as magical as ever. Her intimate scenes are always made to advance the plot, and are about the intimacy between partners rather than the end goal, if you know what I'm saying.
And there IS a happily ever after, after all. Plus many tear-jerking, happy and soft moments, that really tug at all your heartstrings.
So don't listen to me. I'm usually particular about my heroines anyway haha. Pick this book up and see for yourself, and I will be SUPER HAPPY if you disagree with me. We all have to form our own opinions!
5 Star of One Night With The Billionaire Boss (A Boss in a Billion #2) by Serenity Woods
This was a good addition to Serenity Woods latest series. From the first chapter I was drawn into the story that she wove. One Night With The Billionaire Boss was an entertaining, well written friends to lovers story with characters who you cannot help but become invested in.
This book was passionate , steamy and had characters who I was really drawn to. I fell hard and fast for single dad Oliver (Hux) Huxley, such a swoon worthy, dynamic and caring man and Elizabeth Tremblay was a strong, focused and successful woman I admired.
When Elizabeth asks Hux if he would volunteer to help her achieve her goal of having a baby he agrees but only if they can do it the “old fashioned” way. Elizabeth is wary, after all she has been in love with Hux for years and he once broke her heart. Dare she put aside her fears in hopes of fulfilling her dreams?
I loved how their relationship progressed from friends to lovers and the banter between them was witty. There were equal amounts of romance as well as steam as Hux and Elizabeth embark on a journey that will change their friendship forever.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book.
Huxley and Elizabeth dated briefly a long time ago but it ended when she found out that he became a father for someone else's baby. Elizabeth had her heart broken but they stayed friends. Huxley has asked her out regularly since then but she thinks it would be a bad idea and she'd just get her heart broken again. But when she wants to get pregnant with donor sperm he is the only person she would consider asking. He says no to artificial insemination but he would be willing to consider the old-fashioned methods. I was a little ambivalent about the reason they initially broke up because, well, how noble, but what a waste, and Elizabeth was so stubborn for so long... But I enjoyed the banter and the characters were likable and Huxley has some pretty great grand gestures in store.
I did not understand why the book title refers to Billionaire Boss because neither Huxley or Elizabeth are each other's boss, as far as I can tell. It is reported that he is a private club owner and makes a lot of money investing. and she owns her own pharmaceutical company and is effectively her own boss, as well as that of a bunch of other people.
Steam level: The old-fashioned methods are employed in a mutually pleasurable way.
I received a free copy of this story and this is a voluntary review.
Decent second chance romance, friends to lovers romance. There is a lot of side stories that relate to the other books but I didn't start with them and I would only read the third to skim and see future stuff about this couple.
While the writing was fine, and I loved all the other characters, I didn’t care for the heroine, not one little bit. Huxley deserved so much better and was foolish for waiting for her and asking her out more than 120 times. She was selfish, bitter, resentful and spiteful. She strung him along for more than 10 years and held that he had a child with another woman against him, before they were even in a committed relationship. And resented him for being honorable and loving his daughter and supporting her mother.
Although it had a happy ending for the couple, I was hoping he would have left her after their one night together especially since he had to go to such drastic measures just to get that time with her. While she was honest with her feelings, the way she treated him after they were intimate cemented the deal that I was not a fan of hers (to put it mildly.)
fuck you duck you FUCK YOUUUUUUUUU i was gonna give this book a 5 star rating bc everything is top notch; the smut, the writing, the characters, the setting everything is chefs kiss except for the fact that elizabeth CHOSE to stay in fuckass nz instead of choosing to head a 500 million dollar scientific project is so y/n coded (y/n coded is used as a derogatory term, fyi). wdym you would rather stay here than complete a 2 yr term stay in england where YOU were the head of the project and would have had a fantastic life as well? was there a clause that she couldnt visit nz in between those 2 years?? even huxley had zero issues waiting for her for 2 years (i still havent finished reading, just got past that line where hux proposed and she said shes not moving) foolish decision to let go of the england project. and yeah i mean titus can go lmao but wasnt it her baby? her project? the cause she was so passionate for? how is she letting it go? is she fucking insane. bloody stupid

This was more like 2.5 stars. This could be because I was looking for a low angst happy story and I thought a friends to lovers would be a great pick. Well I find that the FMC to be obtuse and selfish.
Oliver Huxley and Elizabeth meet in college and after 2 dates she’s going to tell him that she wants to lose her virginity to him but he disappears for 2 weeks. When he reappears he tells her that he found out a girl he had a one night stand with 2 months ago(before he met her) is pregnant with his baby. He wants to do the right thing and be around for this baby. Elizabeth gets mad but works through it and they are friends fast forward 10 years and she asks him to be a sperm donor since it’s a 3 year wait for single moms.
He wants to do it the old fashion way because he was already a distant father and wants to be present but she says no. He’s in love with her and made it obvious from the beginning. He asked her out 6 months after finding out that he was going to be a dad 10 years ago but she said no because he broke her heart. He then asked her out every month after for ten years straight. He has stated throughout the book that she’s the one in some form of another and she still doesn’t see it. She keeps repeating that he just wants to get in her pants. What fucking man commits 10 years to asking one girl out to just get in her pants?!!!!!
He makes a bet that if he can jump off the side of building she has to give him one night. He’s deathly afraid of heights Beyond a normal fear and she thinks he won’t follow through. He does and she’s surprised. After their one night she still thinks he did it just to get in her pants and she contemplates taking a job out of the city that’ll take her away for 2 years. She doesn’t consider that she could already be pregnant with his baby and doesn’t consider his feelings even though he’s made it painfully clear he wants her forever. I cannot stand when the FMC is only considering her own feelings and not those around her and I just cannot connect with her emotionally because I think he was honest from the beginning and for her to feel her heart was broken in this scenario is not okay in my opinion. I’m not going to DNF I’m over 51% finished with it but I have to put it away for a while because she pisses me off. Huxley deserves better.

WTF just happened! Ugh, I finished so there's that but I'm not stable enough to give this one a proper review at the moment.
This book was so frustrating! How can two characters be near perfect, swoony, romantic, cute and genuinely amazing to complete idiots and cowards the next! How!!!!
I think I'm so PO'd because I feel like I got tricked into liking these characters only to have them both pull complete 180 changes to their personalities. And don't even get me started on the baby-mamma drama twist the author thought was a good idea to throw in at the end. IT. MADE. NO. FREAKIN. SENSE! (Other than making me hate the "hero" even more!
~ best friends to lovers/second chance ~ breeding ~ dirty talking possessive H ~ Older MCs (29) ~ miscommunication
I absolutely loved the first 35% of this book. I could understand the heroine’s reluctance to a point and the banter between Hux and herself was truly top notch. Then it begins to go downhill for me. I still enjoyed the story, but the heroine not so much and then Hux was just ruined at the end. Let me explain.
1. Hux is deathly afraid of heights. He wants one night with Elizabeth to show her how good they could be together, so he bets her he will jump off the tallest building for one night with her. Is she a good friend? No, she makes him go through with it even though he’s vomiting and shaking. That’s selfish.
2. She holds something that happened when they were 19 over his head for ten years. Because he put his ONS before her. I can see not wanting to give him another shot (he turned into a playboy), and being hurt by what he did, but then she’s deliberately cruel to get back at him when he’s nothing but sweet to her.
3. The twist. It’s supposed to make us feel better about what happened when they were 19 (he knocked up his ONS and decided on a fake relationship with the mom bc her parents were strict, thus breaking up with Elizabeth). Instead we find out (Huge SPOILER) it wasn’t his kid, it’s his brothers! He went to his brothers house and found the girl crying bc his brother took off. He feels so bad he offers to pretend it’s his kid, and he breaks up with Elizabeth who he supposedly is madly in love with thinking he’ll just ask her out later, and is surprised when she says no.
Elizabeth is delighted to learn he never slept with Brandy and it’s not his kid. This somehow gets her past her resentment? Did I miss how he STILL put a complete stranger over their relationship? Not once in ten years confided in her bc he promised Brandy, the stranger, he wouldn’t tell anyone his brother was the real Dad. Mind. Blown. To me, it makes it twice as bad! Not better!
The entire story would be null and void if communication had happened.
So unfortunately what started as a great story tanked at the end. But the breeding and dirty talk was fun.

In my opinion no one writes romance like Serenity Woods, she has a way with words that make me feel the emotion, feel the frustration, feel the hurt, feel the anger but also embrace the humour, all the things that keep Elizabeth and Huxley together. Elizabeth Tremblay was nineteen, at university, when her heart was broken, she had just been told that Oliver Huxley, the boy that she was dating, the boy that she thought that she could be happy with, had got another girl pregnant, admittedly it was before they had started dating but he was honorable, he would stand by the girl and her baby but he wouldn't marry her. Ten years later and the group of friends from university were still together, they had all done well, Elizabeth had been in three short relationships but all had ended in disaster and none of them was Huxley. Elizabeth and Huxley were best friends, they adored each other, they shared their secrets or so Elizabeth thought. Every month for ten years Huxley had asked Elizabeth to marry him, it was a group joke......... or was it a joke ? Huxley works hard to prove to Elizabeth that he is serious but Elizabeth is certain that he only wants her because she had always refused him, no one said no to the gorgeous, generous, thoughtful Oliver Huxley, but she would not be just another notch on his bed post, she wouldn't risk losing his friendship. When Elizabeth realised that her body clock was ticking there was no one that she would want to be a sperm donor other than Huxley, but she found that her ideas and Huxley's were completely different. I loved the character of Huxley, I loved his gentleness, his easy going manner, his loyalty, his witty banter, his love of his daughter and the support he gave her mother but also the phobias that made him human. I admit that I wasn't as enamored of Elizabeth but her character grew on me as I came to understand her fears. A beautifully written second chance romance with a surprising twist, I now can't wait for Titus and Heidi's story. I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.
One Night with the Billionaire Boss by Serenity Woods, book two in her new A Boss in a Billion series, is a passionate, entertaining, amazing, emotional, rollercoaster, romance between two close friends who become lovers. This is Oliver Huxley and Elizabeth Tremblay’s second chance, friends-to-lovers story. Huxley and Elizabeth met in college, felt a connection after a couple of dates, and then a wrench in their potential relationship occurred when Elizabeth learned that Huxley became a father for someone else's baby. Despite having her heart broken but they stayed friends. Huxley has asked Elizabeth out regularly since then, but she thinks it would be a bad idea, and she'd just get her heart broken again. Huxley knows what he wants, and he wants Elizabeth. He won’t push to get it, although he might nudge insistently. Elizabeth has experienced some bad relationships that left her wary and unwilling to trust again. When Elizabeth realized her body clock was ticking and wanting to get pregnant using donor sperm, Huxley is the only person she would consider asking. He says no to artificial insemination but would be willing to consider the old-fashioned methods. The sperm donor request is the catalyst that might break through her barriers and give Huxley the opportunity to finally get together with the woman he has wanted for ten long years; embarking on a journey that will change their friendship forever. There are even a few rather swoon worthy grand gestures by Huxley to prove his true feelings to Elizabeth.
Ms. Woods wrote a wonderful, emotional and sizzling hot story that should not be missed. She also provided a tale set in New Zealand, rich with sizzling chemistry, clever banter, sometimes lack of communication, the magic of love, and endearing secondary characters giving Elizabeth and Huxley a second chance at love, happiness, and a future together. I highly recommend One Night with the Billionaire Boss to other readers and look forward to Titus and Heidi's story.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I kept going back and forth with this book. This story had parts that I enjoyed and parts that I did not. First, the positive. Serenity Woods is a wonderful story-teller. She writes about interesting topics (at times making you step outside of your comfort zone), creates terrific characters (some you will like better than others), paints beautiful pictures of New Zealand (always wonderful), and leaves you thinking about the story (always a good thing). Huxley, was the main character - the billionaire. For the most part, he was very likable: he was great with his daughter, loved his family, was a loyal friend, and he was incredibly unselfish. He has been in love with Elizabeth since he was nineteen and refuses to give up the idea of them never being together; so much so that he has asked her out once a month for the last ten years!
Now for the negative. Huxley only had two dates with Elizabeth before his world turned upside down. Two dates and he has not truly moved on with anyone else in the last ten years. He is convinced that if they just have sex, then they will be together forever. This is where I began to lose interest. Although I like the idea of love at first sight, ten years of someone turing you down and you still believe you're meant to be together is a bit much. Believing all you need to do is have sex is a bit sad.
I went back and forth with Elizabeth as well. She too was wonderfully loyal to her friends. I love that Serenity made her really smart and devoted to finding a way to help those with infertility problems. I just found her to be too whiny. She had been hurt in several relationships and that made her extremely caustious with Huxley; but the back and forth of believing he really loves her and the fear that he just wants sex wore thin.
I love the way Woods brought the story around in the end. Very clever. Overall, this was not my favorite Serenity Woods book. All things considered, I woud give it a 3.5. I received and ARC for an honest review.
Oliver Huxley and Elizabeth Tremblay have been friends for over a decade. They started dating at 19, but never made it to a third date. That's when Huxley told their friend group he had gotten a girl pregnant from before he started dating Elizabeth. He took responsibility and focused on being there for the pregnant mother. After his daughter's birth, he waited a bit, but tried to restart his relationship with Elizabeth. A heartbroken Elizabeth said she was no longer interested in a romantic relationship with Huxley.
Even though Huxley spends the next decade of their friendship asking her out monthly, Elizabeth always puts him off, acting like this is a ongoing joke. She's not so jokey when she starts feeling broody but nervous about the three-year wait at the fertility clinic. Her older sister is having a horrible time conceiving, and afraid missing her chance, Elizabeth drunkenly asks Huxley for help. With so much underlying attraction between them, can they even stay friends afterward?
There is an intensity between Elizabeth and Huxley. Elizabeth admires what a great dad Huxley is, and knows her child would lucky to have him as a parent. She isn't so convinced on Hux as a partner. Both successful in their careers and friendships, it's like they only get tripped up with each other, and only when sex and romance are on the line. They clearly care about each other, but are caught up on things from their past and neither is truly willing to take that first vulnerable step until it's almost too late.
Elizabeth and Huxley regularly show how much they care about and are loyal to the people in their lives. This fact makes it hard to see how, to an extent, Elizabeth plays with Huxley. She treats him a playboy who is not serious about romantic relationships. Huxley, in turn, is convinced one night is all he needs to show Elizabeth they can have more. Elizabeth doesn't believe Huxley is sincere about her and challenges him to jump off the Sky Tower to prove it. Huxley is so afraid of heights he can't get too close to a balcony edge, but swears he'll jump if he gets a night with her. Their mutual friend Mack has to confront Elizabeth with how cruel she's being to Huxley and to stop jerking him around.
Huxley is keeping some big secrets. The other person involved in his biggest secret doesn't seem to consider his feelings in this, and has made some selfish decisions. This really bothered me. Huxley may be a bit arrogant, but has always acted honorably and in the best interests of others. I was sad to see him being taken advantage of this way.

One Night with the Billionaire Boss by Serenity Woods A Boss in A Billion 2
This author is a favorite who provides wonderful characters in heartfelt steamy stories that draw me in, make me feel and care and hope the couple will find their happily ever after.
Elizabeth and Huxley met in college, felt a connection after a couple of dates, and then a wrench in their potential relationship occurred that kept them apart even though they stayed friends for a decade. Huxley has known what he wants, and he wants Elizabeth, but he won’t push to get it…though he might nudge insistently. Elizabeth has experienced some bad relationships that ended up leaving her guarded and unwilling to trust again. The sperm donor request is the catalyst that might break through her barriers and give Huxley the opportunity to finally get together with the woman he has wanted for ten long years.
In this book the two do become lovers but both go into the encounter with different expectations. communication isn’t as open as it should be, and a huge secret that could possibly have made things easier years ago does not get shared till near the end of the story. As I think about this story I wonder if perhaps the decade apart could have been avoided and yet if Huxley and Elizabeth had gotten together when young, they might not have achieved the success and maturity that allows them to finally achieve their happily ever after.
In the end, the two do manage to get it right and I believe they will have a happy successful relationship. I look forward to finding out how they are doing in the wrap-up of the series a few books from now.
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
One Night with the Billionaire Boss is the second book in this series and follows the relationship of Oliver (Huxley) and Elizabeth who we met in book 1.
As with the previous book, it is set against the beautiful backdrop of New Zealand, with all the characters we meet in book 1 making appearances.
Huxley and Elizabeth have been best friends for over ten years, but also share a brief ill fated past. Despite Huxley trying to get their relationship back on a romantic footing after his error too soon into their budding courtship, Elizabeth has rejected him each time he has asked.
When she decides to have a baby and finds that the clinic needs her to wait three years for a donor, she asks Huxley if he will assisted. Of course, feeling the way he does about her, he agrees but with one condition - he wants to get her pregnant the old fashioned traditional way.
After winning a dare and a fantastic night away, Huxley gets his wish. Despite him wanting more and feeling this is the start of something at last, Elizabeth still rejects him.
Things come to a head as they both attend Mack and Sidnie's wedding and suffer the results of their friends' interference as the whole group want the two to find happiness with each other.
Huxley is definitely one of the good guys, but his strong morals have meant that Elizabeth doesn't have the full picture on what happened ten years ago and his reasons for doing what he did. She therefore thinks him more of a bad boy, player and unreliable. But she couldn't be more wrong. He loves her more than life itself and she has never got over him, so when she is offered a job opportunity in England for two years, decisions have to be made.
I enjoyed this story immensely and fully recommend this series.
One Night with the Billionaire Boss Auckland Billionaires Serenity Woods ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My absolute favourite, I don’t know where to start or where to finish…. Oliver Huxley (Hux) and Elizabeth Tremblay are perfection! Best friends from teenagers now they work together, and have a great relationship. But there’s always been a something between them, a secret Elizabeth is not privy too. But now Elizabeth is 29, she decides she desperately wants a baby and she’s wants Huxley to be her donor. Asking was never going to be easy what she didn’t expect was his response….. it won’t happen in a cup, it will happen the old fashioned way. One night, many orgasms and hopefully a baby to follow!
Blurring those lines scares Elizabeth so much, her heart has been broken so many times she’s kicked her heart in chain no one can get through. She knows crossing those lines from best friends to lovers has been what Hux has wanted since school, Now he has his chance and he is not going to let it go. This pair share such a beautiful relationship both as friends and as lovers, but overthinking Elizabeth constantly throws barriers up.
Not one to hide from a game Huxley knows he just needs to show Elizabeth what she really wants and needs…. He just has to make her understand he’s her forever. It takes the whole story but Elizabeth and Huxley get their happy ever after.
Bonus points in this story for an extra Mack and Sidnie fix! I’m loving these Auckland Billionaires. I’m off to the next….
I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about Elizabeth in this friends to lovers romance. On one hand I understood her hurt regarding what happened with Huxley, but on the other hand, it was 10 years ago.
I couldn't fathom how she could be around Brandy and Joanna yet still blame Huxley on some level. It just didn't make sense to me. Maybe that was the point. It wasn't supposed to make sense. It was all wrapped up in emotion for Elizabeth.
Being honest, I felt like Elizabeth was using Huxley, and it didn't make her one of my favorite people. I was really glad Huxley had Mack on his side. I thought Elizabeth was being a bit cruel and I felt sorry for Huxley.
Huxley was such a good, kind, decent guy. He had the patience of a saint. If nothing else, he could be admired and/or respected for his tenacity.
I really appreciate that this author's steamy scenes are not just about the act. They are intimate, sensual, and evoke many emotions between the characters.
I really was not expecting that twist in the story. I guess I should have, but I was so caught up in the journey, it never occurred to me.
I liked most of the characters. Elizabeth eventually grew on me. So I was happy to see them get to their HEA. I wish there had been an epilogue, but I imagine we will get to see more of Huxley and Elizabeth in the next book. I would give this book 4.5 stars.

Elizabeth and Huxley sitting in a…boat…k-i-s-s-i-n-g. Haha. Or was it jumping off a building? Either way, here’s a quick recap and my two cents.
Quick recap:
Huxley and Elizabeth have known each other for many years. They dated originally but it didn’t work out. Now Elizabeth decides she wants a baby and she wants Huxley to be a sperm donor, but Huxley will only “donate” the old fashioned way.
My two cents:
I enjoyed book one quite a bit. I liked Mack and Sid. But I’m not a huge fan of Elizabeth. I like Huxley though!
Elizabeth holds Huxley’s choice of being a Father against him for 10 years. And when he flat out tells her he wants to be with her, she doesn’t believe him? So he jumps off a building and she still doesn’t believe him? Like how doesn’t she believe him after that point? What man jumps off a building for some nookie?
There’s too many “I don’t agree with Elizabeth” moments for me to like her. She was too selfish throughout the book. And how many women want to conceive a child and continue to drink alcohol and get drunk?!
Okay, I’m stepping off my soap box…let’s talk about the sex. There are a few scenes. They’re good 😊
If you like friends to lovers and women like Elizabeth, then give this a try. If not, then consider skipping. Happy reading y’all!
I loved this story. Elizabeth has loved Huxley with all her heart ever since they met at university when she was nineteen. They went out together a couple of times but then disaster fell - an ex-girl friend was pregnant, and he was going to take care of her and her baby. He did just that, but he would not marry her. When the baby, Joanna, was six months old Huxley asked Elizabeth out on a date. She was horrified, and refused, but he has persevered and made the same request almost every month for the following ten years. Still she has refused, she regards him as her best friend and doesn’t want to spoil that relationship.
Elizabeth has decided she is done with men. She has had three disastrous relationships in the last ten years, and she is not going to try that again. However, she does want a baby, and who else can she ask but her best friend? Huxley however will only agree if they set about it the old-fashioned way, he wants to spend the night with her. He thinks that will start the relationship with her that he has always wanted, she is adamant that it won’t.
She eventually agrees, and they have a very romantic night together. However she owns a successful medical research company, and there are massive developments with that she has to deal with. Huxley has succeeded in melting the ice sealing her heart, but her business comes first. There are a lot of twists and turns before they can both agree that they belong together, and always have. And Huxley has never been the playboy Elizabeth always imagined!
It is a sweet story, uplifting to start off a new year! Well worth reading.
Perfect romantic tale for Valentine's Day! Huxley and Elizabeth have so much history and chemistry but she is too stubborn to act on it. It is maybe a little hard to believe that she could feel hurt after 10 years when Huxley is so adorable and easy to love. After all, he is taking care of the child he says is the product of a one-night stand and he is someone who takes care of other people. What a great lead character he is too! As always, Ms. Woods is not afraid to tackle real-life issues and prove once again that even rich people cannot solve all the problems of the world. Here the subjects of pregnancy and infertility are front and center. The difficult subject of a single woman wanting a sperm donor and all the emotions and complications this can have for the donor and the mother are part of the romance. There is fun, flirting, sexy banter and great sexual tension that builds as Huxley wants Elizabeth to have one night with him to make a baby in the old fashioned way. And what a night! This novel is full of twists and issues that will keep you hoping and wondering and on the edge of your seat until the end. I enjoyed the alternate points of view style that allows the reader into the minds of both lead characters.
Ten years ago, Elizabeth Tremblay and Oliver Huxley were at the start of a relationship. Huxley disappears for a while and returns, only to break up with Elizabeth as he has made another girl pregnant. Six months after the baby is born, he asks Elizabeth out again, but she denies his request. For the next nine years, they are best friends but Elizabeth regards Huxley's monthly date request as a running joke. Things change when Elizabeth asks Huxley to be a sperm donor for the baby she wants. Huxley agrees, but only if they do it the old fashioned way.
Serenity Woods has yet again created a cast of utterly human and loveable characters in One Night With The Billionaire Boss. You sympathise with Elizabeth, fall a little bit for Huxley (and then a little bit more and then a lot more) and wish that their friends will adopt you into their circle.
As the story unfolds and you learn more about their story, you root for Elizabeth and Huxley to get their happily ever after.
Their story is well told and, as with most of Serenity Woods' books, you struggle to stop reading once you start.
We met the main characters Oliver Huxley, known to his friends as Huxley and Elizabeth in Book 1 of this series. Huxley is so easy to like, warm, friendly, caring and brilliant like all the friends he's known since college. Elizabeth is intelligent, but a bit off putting yet she grows on you as the book progresses. For 10 years Huxley and Elizabeth have been dancing around their feelings that began in college. When Elizabeth wants a baby she asks her BF Huxley to "donate", but he wants to do it the Old Fashion way, not in a cup. Throughout the book Huxley tries everything he can to prove to Elizabeth he truly loves her and wants forever with her, not just a "one night stand." With twists and turns in what truly happened 10 years ago you root for Huxley to finally win Elizabeth's heart romantically and not just as BFs. A great cast of characters that have you wanting for the next book in the series so you can spend time with this group of friends and their families. Another wonderful book by Serenity Woods. Reasons I enjoyed this book: WittyFunnyHappily Ever AfterWonderful charactersEntertainingRomanticEasy-to-readUnpredictable a
I was captivated from the moment I picked up single dad Oliver (Hux) Huxley and Elizabeth Tremblay’s friends to lovers journey. As I have come to expect from this author I was instantly transported to New Zealand with a swoon worthy hero and a heroine I would love to call a friend and once you add in the secondary characters you get a wonderful read. When Elizabeth asks her best friend Hux to help her have a baby he agrees but only if they do it the “old fashioned “ way. Elizabeth is afraid that by giving him one night she would want more because she has loved Hux for years even after he broke her heart and she is not sure her heart could take another break. But her desire for a baby takes over and she reluctantly agrees to one night but one night would never be enough for Hux so if you love friends to lovers or single parent romance one click now to find out what the future holds for Hux, Elizabeth and his daughter Joanna. One Night with the Billionaire Boss ( A Boss in a Billion #2) has all the feels, I fell hard and fast for Hux, I adored Elizabeth but it was a ten year named Joanna who at times stole the show. The chemistry is sizzling and the banter is witty and I now can’t wait for book 3.

First off, going into this book I had totally different expectations. Friends to lovers, second chance, grand gestures, bets—I’m here for it! BUT Huxley deserved so much better than Elizabeth. Knowing why she refused to date him, even after he did what he knew was right, was just icky. If she can’t accept that he takes responsibility and does the right thing, she doesn’t deserve him. Then when we realize after the bet that she’s purposely refusing him for revenge I can no longer relate to her or root for her. Poor Huxley. 10 years waiting for her and then when the big twist is revealed and we see even more how selfless Huxley is and Elizabeth finally starts to forgive him, it was pure selfishness. He shouldn’t have taken her back. I get he cared for her but he was treated so badly and swung back and forth in his emotions.
I couldn’t be happy for their HEA because of how toxic the rest was. I almost wish he’d given Brandy a chance or found someone else…
Not sure if I’ll read any others by this author. The steam was good but that’s about the only good I can say besides Huxley was a dreamy hero but just got a bad lot.
