A graduate of Yale Law School (J.D.) and Cornell University (B.A. Psychology), Debra Strauss served as a Federal law clerk for two clerkship terms (Chief Judge, Southern District of New York); in private practice at a prominent New York law firm; and as the founding director of the judicial clerkship program at Yale Law School. She also directed and authored the National Judicial Clerkship Study on behalf of the National Association for Law Placement and the American Bar Association.
Professor Strauss is a consultant and author of numerous articles on the courts, judicial clerkships, and diversity issues, as well as the definitive book, Behind the Bench: The Guide to Judicial Clerkships. Her scholarship includes notable publications on genetically modified organisms, food safety, and global security.

Behind the Bench is a decent primer on the value of judicial clerkships, the process of applying for them, and how to prepare yourself for the experience. It's meant to be a reference book and it does have a particular focus on federal clerkships. I recommend it for any law student interested in applying for a clerkship.
