Marlowe Rivers As the son of Marjory Rivers, founder, and CEO of J.Rivers inc., I spent my life in a bubble. Everything centered around recycling and turning trash into something usable again. My hopes of becoming a graphics designer went up in flames when my boyfriend ran the company's electric car prototype into a tree on prom night. He'd been drinking, and we'd argued after I learned he'd been dating my twin sister, too. It took me six months of therapy to understand that his death wasn't my fault, and another six to say it out loud. Dating was the furthest thing from my mind. Building a better car, and saving lives, had become my priority. And then I met Ethan.
Ethan Danvers I'd secretly had a crush on Marlowe Rivers since the first time I saw him in one of the J.Rivers inc. brochures. When he walked into my life with an opportunity to help him build an electric car, I countered with a proposition. Take me to the J.Rivers inc Annual Dinner, and I'd help with anything he needed. His agreement turned my life upside down. Getting to know the man behind the face in the pictures made me love him even more. The question was, would the demons of his past chase him away from our future, or could he love me?, or would the demons of his past keep us from having a future?
“Did you break him? He did speak English, not squeaker.”
This is a story of two damaged young men working their way out from underneath personal issues. There are some pretty heart wrenching things mentioned that help you understand why they are, who they are. Heartbreak. Betrayal. Bullying. Abuse.
They need to find a balance and keep the bad feelings at bay. They will need to learn to lean on one another and trust one another.
This story has all the feels including happiness and sadness. It made me a bit contemplative thinking over the life and decisions I've made. But bottom line, you are the person you are based on the life and experiences that you've lived. In Garth Brooks words 'Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain But I'd have had to miss the dance'. My philosophy is don't look back always look forward.
The title on my review came from a line in the book concerning a character named Deluca and what his appearance does to people. I'm shipping Deluca with Ever. If anyone ever needed a Daddy it's Ever. Plot bunny for another possible book!?! Yes, please?
