Ox has only rudimentary language skills, so everyone thinks he’s developmentally delayed. They say, “Big as an Ox and just as dumb.” But everyone is wrong. He can solve almost any problem by making mental diagrams. When he meets a lawyer, he insists on helping her prove that her client is innocent of murder. To the distress of her colleagues, she comes to rely on Ox’s insights, even when they seem to lead her far astray and the trial is looming.

Thom Whalen studied experimental psychology at UCSD (B.A.), UBC (M.A.) and Dalhousie University (Ph.D.). After working for the Government of Canada conducting research on the human factors of computer networks for thirty years, he retired to begin a new career writing fiction.
