Jess is on the trail of Ivan Bush, which takes him to the town of Bravo, Texas. On his way, he meets a widow by the name of Penny, who lives outside of town. He befriends her and stays in her place for the night.
After he leaves Bravo, he discovers that two outlaws robbed Penny and beat her to within an inch of her life. He returns to Bravo and arranges for her to be taken care of before heading out on the hunt for the two men who committed the crime.
Then, a United States senator is murdered and the president of the United States offers a five-thousand-dollar reward. Jess goes after the man who killed him.
Along the way, he meets another bounty hunter who wants in on the hunt…but he’s not the only one.

Another great read. Always waiting for the next. Like it when he takes a partner. Love it when shadow is in it and he talks about his horses more. Like the ones when he's on vaca in Stratton.
I've read, and reread this series throughout the years. It was the first western series I purchased and I'm still buying the books to date. I've read some of the comments and I take exception to ones remarking that the tale is repetitive. It's a series about a bounty hunter and Jesse Williams stays true to the original premise of hunting down killers, rapists and the like that law enforcement can't or won't go after. The stories stay true to Jesse's perceived job but he grows as a person and that, to me, is what keeps the stories alive. So I will now look forward to reading 120 and all that follow with anticipation.
I made a promise to Mr. Thomas years ago after I had read many of his books. I have read 1-119. My promise was made when he said his plan for Jess was to stop at 100 and I promised to read as long as he wrote about Jess. I think he should have stopped at book 100. I started noticing how he was using so many filler words. You know those words that are not necessary but take up space. In every book you find the same exact sentences, about finding the trail that would lead him to wherever. I could go on but I won't be reading about Jess Williams. Too repetitious.
Jess met Penny and helped dress he shot on her property. But after Jess left two outlaws came to Penny's place and beat her near death. As soon as Jess found out he returned to find Penny severely beaten. He paid for doctor and nurse to take care if her while he hunts the two outlaws and kill them. Lots of action for Jess but always generous to those who need help.
Enjoyed everything in this book just not long enough waiting for the next one Robert j Thomas write good stories about Jess Williams please bring shadow back in the next one
Once again another action packed Jess Williams story full of entertainment from the first page to the last one just can't wait for the next Jess Williams story need one as they are my favourite westerns
Awaiting the next in this series! I enjoy bounty Hunter stories but this guy has a kind, generous heart and I’m awaiting the last to see him happily married to the love of his life that someone who also sent him the special gun he uses. Mystery abounds with each book❤️
I’ve read all 119 of the Jess Williams series books and I have to admit I am addicted to them. It’s actually the only books I have ever payed for over my monthly Amazon Prime subscription. I’ve read thousands of books but I never pay for any of them but this series by Robert J. Thomas.
I look forward to reading his next novel since I have read ALL of his previous novels. They are all well written, full of action, beginning to the end. I highly recommend this author.
Another great story about Jess Williams. Jess is always after bad men but helps people along the way. He helps a widow named Penny , who almost is beaten to death. He sets her to be taken care of while he goes after the bad men who hurt her.
I enjoyed this series very much. I read all then a few months later started again. Good books never get old. I like good clean westerns. Keep up the good work.
