I love a slowburn. In this one we tackle the psychological effects of being so close to the man who murdered not only you, but your entire family. Laliette is a fascinating main character because her PTSD crawls and infects the narrative. We see her anger, her hatred, her continued malice. We see her denial, her begging for Rupert to remain a monster and not human so she can continue hating him. We also see her persevere inspite of everything.
I love the political intrigue. I love that Rupert and Laliette take their time. Despite some clichés, I find that I'm still hooked regardless.
Rupert's "cherish what's mine" tendency from previous books being continuously repeated as a theme; Laliette's love for her house and family shining through as she reminds him that to cherish her (as someone who is his) he has to cherish her house, her family, and everything she has. Crazy. I'm hooked.
I don't particularly enjoy the anachronistic additions to the manhwa, because then I'm just not sure what period this is in. Guns and ramen, like okay. Let's get a move on.
