The Hounds #2

The Piece You Stole

Rate this book
I'm back in my monster's chains...and his bed.

I thought there was nothing I wouldn't do to escape this world—and escape him .

But that was before I learned Rylan's cruelty goes even further than I believed. That there are things you let slide and others that call for blood.

I don’t let myself hope that Kade and Aden will save me. After all, who would want a scarred, broken thing like me?

Now, the only thing that matters is vengeance.

Whatever it takes to destroy him, I’ll do it. I’ll set his world on fire. And if that means I burn?

Then I burn.

This is the second book in a slow-medium burn adult paranormal reverse harem romance series. The heroine will end up with multiple love interests who fall hard for her, one by one. Recommended for readers 18+

Yeah, so Saige does not grow a backbone. And the way her so called men treats her? 😤

First of all, why can’t Saige know this so-called plan of theirs? Why can’t she know what they had to do in order to save her?

Second of all, the way every single one of these male characters in this book lusts after Saige disgusts me. For example, Dariel’s brother, Leo, knows what she had just gone through. She’s literally bandaged everywhere, can’t walk, and is bruised and all he could do was stare at her breasts!!! Like, what the actual heck?! Even her men was lusting after her like that.

Lastly, I am sick of this weak fmc. I understand she has a bunch of trauma (trust me. I know her trauma.) But the way this author wrote about it and the way she makes her seem so weak BECAUSE of it pisses me off. I just cannot support someone like this.

Even more mixed feelings

This trilogy has so much potential but I’m still not feeling it. I like the directions Daige is going but she’s still annoying me with all the self-sacrificing. She’s smart and I get we’re she’s coming from but what is she really going to achieve with no money and no plan, when she’s hurt as bad as she is ? Not far, that’s where.

Also I’m all for the slow burn but I would at least expect the characters not to spend over half the book in different locations with zero contacts between them. We don’t really get to know the guys here either.

At this point I’m only reading this series hoping the bad guys get what they deserve and so much more.

Loved the first book but this one had me ticked. I wish the author would of put a trigger warning or something for the police brutality and how they cornered the fmc and tried to coerce a confession. Like I get this may not be something that's technically triggering but for some it may if they're like me! I was so unprepared for it to switch up so fast and the author definitely didn't need to go into detail I would of just been happy with her saying she was interviewed for hours and maybe just mentioned she was in shock to learn of the charges or whatever I get details make a story but this detail nearly broke it for me. So that one thing really brought down my rating for sure. Secondly, editing needs done on both the first and second books little typos or mistakes were easily missed such as "where" being used instead of "were". Idk I just can't bring myself to rate this second book above a 2.5 stars. I'll be reading the next but goodness warn someone next time.

****POSSIBLE SPOILER*****

Also did she like completely overlook and forget Rylan said she was a supernatural like why isn't she asking questions?!?! Like she just slyly brings it up to the guys but she doesn't ask what other supernaturals are real like no.
This erks me so badly in books like you want us to like the characters but how can we when they are being tstl and ignoring important things -_-

DNF - Finished 100% of the first book, 81% of the second book

The FMC has no sense of self-preservation. She just continues to make bad decisions throughout. I don't know. I just didn't vibe with her. I also didn't vibe with the MMCs. They just weren't that likeable. They were confusing and one of them was literally acted like he hated the FMC.

The beginning was sooooooo good. So I Am pretty sad that it didn't continue on that strong path. I kept reading hoping I would get into it again but unfortunately I didn't.

Oh man!

The soiled dove trope is really not my jam but I am so invested i forgot to leave a review for book 1! For me, this story isn't a fantasy but more like a REALLY good soap opera. The characters build and develop, layers peel away like an onion in a way that feels natural. By this point in too many books the characters are all saying "I love you" without knowing anything about each other. This harem feels like how a real relationship would develop. At first I thought it strange how comfortable the FMC was with intimacy but realized that she was an adult, she has her coping strategies and everyone deals with trauma differently. Personal taste, I would have wanted the FMC want some self defense or shooting classes. Or to take some initiative to learn more about her world but it also makes sense that she doesn't.

In sum, while I don't see myself in any of these characters the world in which they live and their actions within that world makes so much sense that it takes me beyond my personal preference and has me at the edge of my seat.

went downhill…

I was so excited for this series. The first book had me intrigued. Gave me hope this would be a great story. I had hoped the characters would evolve, be better. Learn their lessons. But nope. I was very frustrated with the characters. All of them. I’m sad to say I thought of DNFing more than once. I skipped a ton of inner monologues and descriptions that didn’t really matter to me. I understand this is a “me” problem and lots of people might enjoy three plus pages description of how the h is fed eggs for breakfast. But I don’t.

One of my biggest pet peeves is lack of communication where it causes unnecessary drama. This book is full of it. No one tells the h anything, she’s so clueless I wanted to throttle someone. The Hs treat her with kids gloves except for the steamy times which made my eyes roll TBH.

The third book comes out in July, but I’m not sure if I’m going to finish it because again, this one wasn’t what I expected.

Is was awesome. I always love it when I don’t fully know in a book what’s going to happen. There will be time when I can guess but this one more or less kept me on my toes. And somewhat spoiler maybe: my lord the things she went through had me 😭😭 but the fact that she still had a silent strength to keep on keeping on my god she is an inspiration. It’s always a fine line for me when it comes to bada** females bc sometimes they just become to be too much but this book is just that and so is Saige. Her whole story and they say it unfolded in this book was fantastic. The tidbits you got of Dariel, Aden, & Kade plus Harley it was *chefs kiss* I love love loved it. You always gave me just enough to keep coming back for more, this book wasn’t an information dump in one and then fast paced in another, it just unfolded and you put it together like a puzzle and it’s a site to see really and I say see and not read bc that’s how well done I feel it was it’s like a movie behind my eyes. ❤️

Mmmm...NOPE!

Book 1 was pretty good. This one...not so much. It took half the book for planning to become actions, and for men supposedly invested in the FMC, that seems a bit excessive. Sage's struggles internally and externally seemed a bit drawn out. And Rylan has gotten even more ridiculous imo. The rest is too long and boring to enjoy.
Unfortunately, I jumped the gun and bought book 3 before I even started book 2, and I regret it because I would have chosen to keep my money or spend it on a different book. So, I guess I will push on and read it... eventually... one day... when I'm extremely bored and my numerous other options have been exhausted. I'm lying to myself. I'll probably never read it. Sage and her dispassionate and disconnected crew can get gone. I'm upset that I wasted the money 😭

Anxiety Overload

Saige is amazing. She has gone through so much at the hands of her ex and his Pack and through it all she still stands tall. My heart just broke for Saige with every chapter in this book. There is something different about Saige because there is no way a normal human can endure all of the pain, suffering and torture she has experienced. I can't wait until it's revealed what makes her different.

There was so much to unload in this book ranging from The Hounds going through "Growing Pains", secrets being revealed, and the brotherhood bond being tested daily. There was so much to unpack in this book, and I have to be honest my nerves were shot throughout most of this book and that Cliffhanger nearly made me flatline. Geesh!!!!

Best book with heart and passion

This book is great it is not for the faint of heart and probably should have a trigger warning but I absolutely enjoyed it. Took me 4 days to finish reading it, with work the kids and family I literally woke up at 4:00 AM to make sure that I could read for a couple of hours. I love seeing the journeys of the characters and anybody who likes werewolves Characters who say each other should definitely wanna read this book. The only thing I dislike is this author loves cliffhangers but other than that its fabulous I can't wait for the next book sometime in May.

Not as good as the first

I enjoyed the book but it was to much with the fmc being in the clutches of her ex and his pack. Lots of torture, sexual abuse from police officers and rape. There wasn’t any balance to outweigh the crap that happens to the fmc. It’s got promise tho. I’m glad she killed the two guys in her exs pack. They were mean and loved to torture her, with permission from her supposedly called “Mate”. Everything flowed really well, the emotions and reactions felt natural to what was going on. I just didn’t like how there wasn’t more happiness.
I hope the next one has more balance.

I absolutely loved this book! 😍

This is the second book in this series, and continues off where the last one left off!

This book was a lot more dark than book one, and it gave me all the feels.

I absolutely love Saige! The poor girl hasn't caught a break, but is very tough! We learned a lot more about everything in this book. I absolutely loved the intensity, emotion, and steam. Saige's guys will everything for her!

This book ends on a cliffhanger, so I am so excited to see what happens next! 😄

I'm just going to review all three with one review here. It only makes sense because we don't really have three separate books here. We have one long story, that was randomly split up with cliffhangers into three. They weren't even evenly separated since the last book had almost double the pages of the other two.

I liked it...it was what it was. Please read the author's trigger warnings because there's a LOT of nastiness going on. I am pretty sure, a normal person would not have survived it.

Rylan has Saige back in his clutches. Can Aden & Kade save her & will Dariel join them? I love how Saige finally finds some courage to fight back. Aden & Kade are both prepared to die for her, they know without a doubt that they belong together. Will Dariel finally come to the same realisation & devote himself to her too? We discover a little more of Dariel's background story & understand why he's like he is. I really hope Saige can help him heal from the betrayals he's endured.
Really enjoying this series although in places the editing lets it down. Dived straight into book 3.

Loved it
This book gave me all the feels. I felt like we learned so much in this book. There was action and a bit of steam, but I think the main focus was learning more about the characters. I love Saige. While it seems she can't catch a break half the time, she is still a survivor. I felt like there was some growth in her and I have a feeling we will see more in the next book. I thought it was a great continuation!
That cliffhanger!!! I hope book 3 comes soon!!!

Loved to read

This touches more of the struggles our lead lady has faced and a brush of our trio and their background pains. Be warned of the triggers as this isn't a cuddling type of page turner, with it's dark history and the efforts put into helping her mend from the trauma.

This was more enjoyable than the first book and left at a big cliff hanger so I am going to rush over and read that one now.

swooning

I’m fully addicted to this series. The FMC is painfully strong, the MMCs are loyal, imperfect, and everything a book boyfriend should be, and they are all (including the leading lady) scarred, wounded, but not entirely broken. The characters feel real in their imperfections. The spice level really ramps up in this second book of the series. Absolutely wonderful read. Check the trigger warnings and mind the cliff, but read if you can.

Time

Now that’s a twist of a cliffhanger.

Even with book 2 a lot darker than book 1 it was still as addictive, swoon worthy and emotional.
This series takes shifters and mates to a whole new level for sure. It’s got you questioning certain characters actions.

You want a page turner, binge worthy, addicting and excitement then this is your series. Absolutely sensational.

Dark, intense and emotional!

When the author wrote that this book was darker than the first one, boy, she was right. This is incredibly intense, the emotion, the terror hits you right between the eyes. And it doesn't let up, at all right through to the end. And what an ending!!!
Brilliant!

Picks up where book one left off, of Rylan finding Saige. The men go to save her. The cliffy is brutal. I felt like we learned a lot from the one about the guys and about Saige’s past. Saige seems like she can never catch a break she is still amazing and so strong. I really can’t wait to see where the series goes next in book 3.

Still good

The long way to freedom of Saige continue. The beginning of the book is dark, Saige having been again captured by Rylan, so read the trigger warning please🙏🏻
The harem isn't still really settled and we learn more about the dark past of the guys. We also understand better the obession of Rylan about Saige but there is still a lot to be uncovered.
Look forward the next book! 😊

The Piece You Stole, the second book of the Hounds series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). I enjoyed this installment of the series better than the first, possibly because I was so invested in the characters and the story line. More tension, more twists, and great characters. I'm just sad I'll have to wait for book 3.

This book is dark and emotional. Please check trigger warnings before reading!

This book really took us on a wild ride. I feel like we got more depth behind the characters in this book. Especially saige, we got to see her get the desire to fight back which I loved. Can't wait for the next one!

The Piece You Stole book 2

Warning cliffhanger ending. I read the whole book but considered stopping a few times because it seemed to drag. Liked the end a lot but NOT the cliffhanger!

Oh lord

Evil. He is truly evil. So happy with the FL getting one good hit in and killing him. But man is she tough to survive what she does. The ML's do not disappoint either. They go to town to get her back. Cannot wait for more!

I’m in shock because of how much emotion I’ve gotten from this situation that Saige and her men have been through and how they protected her from this dangerous situation. I can’t wait for more

This is definitely a dark series, though I am still gripped by the storyline. Pretty fast paced and told from all POV. Saige is a great FMC, even though she has obvious trauma and fear. Still a lot of mystery to solve in the last book, and I can’t wait to discover it.

3½⭐
In some ways this book was as good as book one and in some ways better than book one. It was decently written and had good character growth.

***SPOILER***

My favorite part was the stabby justice that Saige gets against Nathan, even if it did cost her.
