Notorious Mafia enforcer and right hand of the Cosa Nostra, Maximo DiMarco has always looked out for me. He’s my protector. My brothers’ best friend. My crush—with the body of a god and the mind of a devil.
And I am just a spoiled Mafia princess. At least that’s who most people think I am. They don’t look at me long enough to see the real me. But he sees....
He is dark and dangerous and lethal, but he’s the only man who makes me feel like I’m alive. It’s a pity he’s too loyal to my brothers to ever act on the sparks that constantly fly between us....
Or is he?
Because when he finally loses control, it’s even more than I ever dreamed it could be. And even though he tells me that the two of us aren’t an option, I see the look in his eyes every time we’re together. He’s only ever a breath away from losing that control again.
But Max is a man with a dark past and secrets that he can’t escape. When that past catches up with us, it threatens what might be our only shot at happiness. Because I would give up everything I’ve ever known for a life with him. And when my brothers find out about us, I just might have to.
This book is a stand-alone brother's-best-friend romance. It features:

I'm a bestselling author of dark mafia, billionaire, and paranormal romance. I love to read and write about hot, filthy talking alphas that would burn the world down for the women they love.
I love chatting to readers about my books, or books in general, so please get in touch! You can follow me on Facebook and instagram as well as on here as Sadie Kincaid Author.
Alright, bookstagram swindled me with one quote and I decided to read this. I wanted to love it, it's been a while since I've read a mafia dark romance but this one wasn't for me.
I thought the dialogue was really repetitive and corny at times.
"Holy mother of fuzzy ducks!"
This one was on page 119 and I asked myself if I really wanted to finish this book. From here on out I heavily skimmed the book and pretty much only read the dialogue. The FMC swears constantly so why are we saying cringey things like this?
There is frequent spice which I love, but again, it was really repetitive. I never thought I'd say a character uses pet names too much, but Max does. I thought Joey was whiney and I just couldn't get into the story.
After reading and liking the first book of the series i decided to give it a go. It took lots of skimming to finish this book. Back to back chapters are full of s*x scenes. Thats it. I found Joey so whinny and annoying. This story goes nowhere at all. Heroin gets kidnapped and freed within a span of hours. There was no character development no story nothing. I did not like this as much I did the first one. Still I am gonna read the 3rd book once its out.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
There was no development between the main characters. Then suddenly they were all other each other. The dialog was also very repetitive and sugary. They were so intense for what reason? The MMC is supposed to be this tough bad guy but he came off so corny and too mushy. There was a lot of smut too. I’m fine with that if we get something new every time or some sort of development from it but this was just repetitive and boring.
The plot was also not that interesting. There wasn’t enough building to truly feel the stakes and it was highly predictable. There was about 200 pages of them just having sex, a conflict occurs, it’s quickly resolved, 100 more pages, same thing, quickly resolved conflict then 100 more pages of them having their boring, nothing new, spicy time.
I didn’t care for the characters, plot, or romance. There was nothing keeping me invested enough to finish this book so I have no idea why I did.

So, this is the last book of this series I will be reading as Lorenzo's tropes and what I have read from it are not for me and also the remaining book in this series is MFM which again is not a trope I read so my journey with this series will stop with ''Joey''.
I did enjoy it to an extent, I liked Max much more than Joey. I did not have fond memories of her from the first book and she did seem like a spoiled brat at times, which made her seem much younger than intended.
I also figured out the mystery surrounding the girl Max a decade ago found dead/strangled in his bed after a night of drinking. I knew it would not be his fault or even him that killed her...had a feeling that this might have been a setup from someone else and it turned it out to be true!
Also, could tell that this particular event would cause a bit of issues for Max and Joey, but it was wrapped up pretty quickly once it was brought to light.
I was also able to deduce that her ''best friend'' Monique would be the one who betrayed her and that her mystery guy was the villain. She seemed like the worst type of friend and even I was seeing the massive red flags from the first few pages of her introduction.
The scene where the brothers find out about their relationship and their reaction was golden. I do wish we had a bit more angst surrounding this tidbit, but Max had other issues to deal with which resulted in everyone basically accepting it much quicker than I would have liked lol
“Because you own me too, Joey. Every single part of me.”
4/5⭐ 3.5/5🌶️
We meet Joey and Max in Dante (book 1) and although I liked Max, I disliked Joey for a big part of the book, until she kinda turned the tables. In her book though, Joey left me with quite the impression of her.
I thought of her as a spoiled mafia princess -which she is- but she turns out to be so much more. She has confidence and ambitions. I actually really liked her. She is not the lethal, call-to-arms, "assassinate anyone that stands in my way" type of fmc. At least not with her own hands. She retained many qualities of a mafia princess, but she was strong in her own way and fought for herself.
Max was -*wicked laugh*- not a Moretti and stole the show. The book .. the whole series belongs to him. I loved him, his character, his past, even the drama that he brought on the table. I genuinely liked this book more than book 1. The couple in this one owns the Chicago series. Their chemistry was so good.
As a Sadie Kincaid book, there was so much spice. It's not so much the quality of the spice, like something utterly unhinged or insane… but the quantity. A large portion of the book is just straight up smut. So be aware of that.
A lot better than the first book.. getting used to Sadie Kincaid’s pacing since it feels like everything happens 20-50% into the book and then the rest is just one random thing after another
Once in a while, a book comes along and reminds me why I love good smut!
This is one of those book. . .
Good smut is more than just sex, a lot of it depends on the chemistry between the fmc and mmc, and Joey and Max had FIRE chemistry!
I loved Joey as a heroine and I also loved Max! Max loved Joey properly, and Joey was great.
The reason the rating isn't higher is the best friend issue...
You know, for once I'd love to be surprised by an author subverting my expectations with the way they write female characters, especially female characters who ARENT the heroine.
SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT
YOU WERE WARNED
I mean, the way Sadie Kincaid was writing the quintessential gold digger whore archetype for Joey's best friend, I could see a mile away that Mo was not going to have a favorable ending.
I mean, why ruin a female friendship, over dick/jealousy? So predictable.
Mo was actually an interesting character, and for once I would have liked to see a character like her to get her own book, her own stories, instead of cheap, cliched endings.
Oh wow, she's money hungry, likes sex etc, she must be *evil.*
Like... no. I didn't like that.
Why can't a female character like her get favorable treatment in the story?
And by favorable treatment, I don't mean she has to *change* but making the other characters love her the way she is and giving her even more depth. Etc
Also, her final scene triggered me a little.
Her death scene.
For someone who was her best friend, Joey sure got over her death pretty quickly.... okay....?
Yall know how much I hate when women die in books, and Mo didn't have to be thrown away like that.
And i see through that shit.
Authors write these types of female archetypes so that they CAN throw them away.
I’d be lying if I say this is not steamy🔥🔥 Max has such a filthy hot mouth.
Joey and Max are the definition of soulmates.
Joey and Max have known each other forever they are family. Joey has had a crush on Max for as long as she can remember and her sister-in-laws know it...her brothers on the other hand don't. Max made a promise to his best friends a long time ago that he would never go after their sister, Joey. But he is quickly regretting that promise as Joey is now an adult. …….
Her love for Max is beautiful That man loved her so much and would do absolutely anything for her. Joey may have been a bratty, scheming, spoiled princess in book 1, but in this book she was a strong, fierce, determined woman who knew what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to get it. The spice between these two was off the charts! Max really knows how to please his woman, and Joey wanted to do anything to make Max happy.
I was really excited for Joey's story after meeting her in Dante, but I wanted so much more development and yearning in this romance. Instead, they jumped on each other SO EARLY and then we just had so much spice between them until things turned more mafia and action-centered in the end. I would love a bit more mafia plot in this books and a bit less time focused on the spice.
This book was so, so good. The first novel in the series was good, but this one amps it up in all the way. The intimate scenes were super realistic and hot!
I appreciated a deeper plotline that taught me more about the Mafia-style life in which Joey lived and had to maneuver in.
If you're looking for something spicy to read, this is the book. Pick this.
I honestly didn’t think Sadie could top the Ryan brothers…but she did! Max is pure 🔥! Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ I’m pretty sure Joey and Max are my favorite! The drama, the spice, multiple twists and turns….I literally could not put this boom down!
I have been waiting for Joey’s story since reading Dante’s book and let me say it did not disappoint👏🏼
Firstly, Joey may be an Italian Mafia princess but she is no damsel in distress- this woman can protect herself. It’s very common in mafia books for the FMC to be quite weak but this is not the case with Joey.
This book has the classic brothers best friend trope and I absolutely ate this up. Yes Joey is absolutely head over heels for Maximo who is Dante & Lorenzo friend. And let’s make one thing clear here the feeling is mutual because Maximo is an absolute goner for Joey👀.
Maximo, Maximo, Maximo I absolutely adore you- he is everything I thought he was gonna be and more🛐
This book does follow up on some of the events that took place in Dante’s book.. so I would definitely recommend to read Dante’s book prior to this to be caught up on the situation.
Ngl I do love the jealousy club trope in which Maximo does barge in and steal Joey off the dance floor while he sees her dancing with someone else- and let’s just say that is when Maximo’s breaking point hits and he couldn’t deny he wanted Joey right then and there after he dragged her to the club alley which of course lead to Joey losing her virginity to Maximo (go get it sister💅). And the spicy aspects on increase from then on out.
Overall I quite enjoyed this book, there was a few twists and turns that ensured I couldn’t put this down (unless it was absolutely necessary because you know life). I am most definitely looking forward to diving deeper into this series and following the journeys of other characters who have made an appearance. Lorenzos book is next in our series and I honestly don’t know if my heart will be ready for that heartbreak 💔
Mafia romance✔️ Best friends little sister✔️ Age gap✔️ Strong Heroine✔️ Possessive/Alpha MMC✔️ Touch her and die✔️
Thank you to the author for providing this e-arc for my honest review💅
The story of Joey, mafia princess, and Max, enforcer and brothers’ bf.
The book started really well. There was some angst that I liked, even though the resolution was rather quick, and more action than the previous book. But… I didn’t like at all the way he treated her given the fact she was inexperienced. He was shocked the first time they were together but in a few days he found it a good idea to practise a bunch of more advanced stuff with her? Also, later on I found his behaviour disrespectful. Towards her and towards her brothers as well, contradicting himself.
The smut was too much, it was tiring and unrealistic. Also, there was some kinky stuff.
Joey was trying to look like strong and brave but was mostly being a brat that didn’t even consider saying no to anything Max-related.
Finally, a bunch of phrases were repeated way too many times and after 70% I got bored.
I’m not sure I’ll be reading the 3rd one unless my OCD kicks in.
Book Two Chicago Ruthless. Meet Joey Moretti a card carrying feminist. Maximo DiMarco her personal trainer one of the most feared men in the city of Chicago and he is drop dead gorgeous , and he is off limit her brothers best friend, she gets to spend three morning a week with sweaty Max, but she is then told her half sister Toni an MMA champ is taking over but Max will still be around, Joey knew he had to be her first and Max is a very good teacher. The chemistry is absolutely dynamic. Oh My God what more can I say is that I hopefully fell in love with both these characters, no I fell for Max big time but he is Joey's all hers and what a fabulous couple they make. This book through my emotions haywire right to the end.
I was going to give this book a very detailed review, but then I was like, “nah I’m too tired for this.”
All I have to say about this book, is that it’s a MESS. But, I fear, I enjoyed it. Do not read this book if you don’t like smut, that’s literally majority of what it is. This book was a very quick spicy read for me, and I love those kinds of reads.. but some people don’t; which is understandable.
For the people who want to know the 🌶️ chapters, whether to avoid it or to read it.. here you go 😌
8, 9, 11, 19, 20, 31, 32, 34, 35, 36, 41, 50, 52, 57, 58, and the Epilogue.
this author is just amazing. Puts everything into her books. you will so fall in love with Joe. and Maximo the love scenes so intense what happens. when you want the forbidden fruit and you have had feelings for each other for years. And you don't want to hurt your brothers. and best friends? will they be happy ever after and as usual. It's not easy for this Mafi family the threats are there? they will do anything to protect their own.
Okay I loved the audiobook version of this, I tried reading it a while ago but only got a chapter in. Decided to try the audiobook because I had an audible credit! Joe Arden & Brooke Daniels might be my favourite narrators ever .. I loved both their voices, also loved that it was duet narration!
I was so excited to read Max and Joey’s story, and it was so much better than I expected!! It was so freaking good. I loved the tension between them, and the relationship they had was amazing. The spice in these books so is good. I’m excited to dive right in to the next book.
