There is no place like home…

After the harrowing and life-changing events Scarlett and her Canaries survived beyond The Wall, they return home to a less than warm welcome.

Scarlett has been arrested and returned to her ‘fiancé’ to face his wrath. It is not only his retribution that she must deal with, but also the heartbreak and betrayal from those she left behind.

But Scarlett has a mission. One she will need them all to help achieve.

She left to save the ones she loved.

Now she must return and fight, not only for all of humanity’s survival, but for their very souls.

A war is brewing. No one has stood up to Noah and The Verity, and lived to tell the tale. Not until Scarlett. They need a leader, and all eyes seem to be on her.

Secrets will be uncovered.
Hearts will be broken.
And lives will be lost.

But when did being dead ever stop anyone?

Exceptional work from M J Lawrie as always - a firm new favourite for me!!

I loved this book. Fully and completely. It built me up and broke me down with it’s perfect narrative full of twists and turns, joy and sorrow. Being a part of this journey was truly amazing! Scarlett’s strength and wit make her a stand out character that will live rent free in my mind for a very long time. The Verity as a whole is now one of my favourite series and I whole heartedly hope to experience more in the future!!

What a ride, there are times I find that books can lose some momentum in a duet but not this one. The conclusion to this was fantastic, action-packed and it certainly brought the goods and I definitely preferred this to the first one in the series it just had so much going on, it was also just as brutal and savage as its predecessor was.

Scarlett arrives back in haven to an absolute shitstorm. If absence makes the heart grow fonder here it bloody solidifies Noah’s toxic obsession to possess Scarlett whatever the cost involved, he was absolutely relentless in his intentions, totally ruthless and prepared to use anyone and everything to get his own way.

Now back behind the walls of Haven Scarlet has to finally deal with the mess she left in her wake nine-months prior and not everyone she left behind is pleased to see her back namely Cas who now seems to hate her guts with a bloody passion. Haven is also hiding some dark secrets ones that Scarlett is now determined to uncover whilst at the same time attempting to keep her friend's alive and breathing whilst also outmanoeuvring Noah. Bloody and gory and chock full of some heart-stopping emotional moments Scarlet along with her chosen family enter a struggle for their very survival and the secrets hidden then uncovered are even darker than they could have ever imagined.

I definitely recommend giving this a go but be aware there isn’t really any steam in this series. There is a romance and some love but it definitely isn’t the focus here, the story with this lies elsewhere. This didn’t bother me and this series easily stands well on its own merit and I didn’t feel it lacked because of this. I adored the finish so much, it gave me the warm and fuzzies which I needed after all of that bloodshed and dark happenings this is an excellent series that I highly recommend.

Well what can I say. This one gripped me more than the first, had me sobbing and I let out a NO WAY. All in all throughly enjoyed this book.

I actually didn't see any of the Scarlett story coming I thought she was 100% gone. And I couldn't belive the writer would kill her off. Then the direction of the story changed into the whole new order and didnt think it would go that way.

It really got me in some places and again it was the relationships which made it so intense. I am so happy they all got back together in the end and the adventure they can have will keep me wondering. I still dont feel it is blown me out the water writing but I have really enjoyed the story and been gripped in a few places so jobs been done pretty well id say.

I can't honestly put in words how much I loved this duology when I first read it a couple of years ago anyway, and now, having it in audio at last... it's everything I wanted and more! Amy Putt has smashed the narration and really brought these books to life!

The book itself is phenomenal anyway. From start to finish it's just nonstop action, you just honestly never want to pause reading... especially once you hit THAT POINT (IYKYK). The characters are everything. The twists you just do not see coming are wild. The heartbreak and the love are so deep! I've always been interested in zombies and all that a zombie apocalypse would encompass and this really is one of my favourite takes on that. It perfectly balances zombie action with human reaction, the ways we find to deal with it and the lengths people will go to to make it to their advantage. It's a zombie novel, but it's so human, and I love that.

It's just absolutely fantastic and I'm so so happy to now have these words in all formats!

An AVERAGE of 5 stars (I'll get to this in a minute). Easily though one of the best written, most tense and overall original dystopianic (it's a word!) books I've read, full stop. And yes, this fantastic duology (for now, he hoped aloud) will be going in my list of 'all-timers' in both the zombie and YA genres.

Now to be completely honest, after being absolutely thrilled at the surprising and unexpected plot of book 1, I wasn't entirely ... um, enamored? .... with the first half of this book. No, that's not right: the beginning of part 2 was good, really good but I was looking for knock your socks off, leave you gasping for more good, you know? I mean, if book 1 was a VERY pleasant surprise, well, this should be even better, right? Sure, the political intrique was good and the complicated relationships were still in play... but we knew the big bad jerk was a big bad jerk and we knew the good people were getting the shaft from A to Z. So really, it was just a matter of plodding through all that. Just keep reading, we know what's coming, it's just a matter of letting it happen... so really about here I was thinking 3 stars, even 4 if we could finish with a really good ending.

Then a funny thing happened right about the half-way mark.

Put it this way and this is 100% honest: my wife came downstairs and fussed at me, "You've been sitting there now for 10 minutes shouting 'no fudging way' (I didn't say 'fudge')! What is going on?" Well, without giving away ANY spoilers, what was going on was simply one of the biggest plot twists and GOSH DARNED WILD changes in a story-line I've seen for ages in ANY genre! That was just amazing! I did not see any of that coming and the fact that it was handled so originally, so perfectly within the flow of the story up to the point, well, I did indeed find myself sitting there without any socks on so to speak. I didn't want to stop reading in fact and almost missed dinner, too, but with my girth, I could have survived that rather easily. But I digress...

So tip of the cap for that AND a further deep bow for the absolutely kick-ass fight scenes that followed. As I mentioned in my first review, the lack of guns and all really added a fun and organic feel to the battles to which we are treated. Even having to set up soldiers for 'arrow retrieval' is a unique strategic aspect that just made it all work even better! And these weren't cheap scenes either. We're treated to some full-scale gory, cruel and above all eye-watering moves (you guys will get it). The writing of these scenes is magnificently choreographed, if I can put it that way!

To complete the math problem presented: the 2nd half of this book doesn't even fit on the 5-star scale. It was that much fun! Again, overall extremely original and also very emotional. This book is just about as well-constructed and a mapped out thrill-ride as you can get! Seriously kids, if you want to see 'Hunger Games' and all its poor imitators put to absolute shame, read these books! I know I will be reading them again some day once some of the surprises fade a bit (if they ever do) ... so see you then!

After enjoying the 1st book so much I had to get on to part 2 ASAP. It was just as action packed as the first and I really loved it.

Part 2 carries on immediately after the 1st. It continues the story of Scarlett, Cass, Tee and the rest of the crew as they to get behind the mysteries and injustices of the community they belong to. The Verity. More twists, turns and plots are uncovered, friends are made and lost and enemies are discovered. Its a good mix of a dystopian world with a bit drama, thrills and action.

The reason for me this is a 4* and not a 5* like the first is that I feel its a big longer then it needed to be and the middle part gets quite repeaty in places. When the final battle begins though its just a non stop shit fest of zombie action. I absolutely loved it.

Anyone who loves a good action packed zombie story you definitely need to read this one.

Really enjoyed this but it’s dark!

The characters and story are brilliantly written and the narrator does a good job covering all the voices. Lots of banter, twists and turns and intense danger that follows the FMC and her friends. The ending was perfect

I got kind of bored about halfway through even with all the reveals and twists. I liked where the story went, but the pacing felt off. And while I liked the ending, the tone felt really off from the preceding story. Overall, it was a decent read and a unique story.

Couldn't put it down!

Omg, 10/10 recommend!!!! Seriously couldn't put down book 1 or 2 , I finished both books in 2 days! M.J. Lawrie is a freaking genius! I'm one of those people that sees what I'm reading like a movie so this was just perfection. I was nervous/scared when they were fighting the zombies, I cried and laughed with the characters, I even got angry when our heroes were mistreated. Definitely recommend purchasing book one and two together because I promise you'll want to know what happens from one to the other! This book had me in my feels and I can't wait for the next book in the series!❤️

The ways in which this author could write her characters with such conviction and passion is mind boggling. Like I’ve never found myself feeling so passionately towards words on a page in a while. To the point where it actually had me physically rolling my eyes or shaking my head or tearing up or cheering for whichever character it was at the time. Like damn the things some of these characters said to each other and the ways in which they said it had me actually thinking they truly felt that way.

Also can I tell you how this book is just MAGNETIZING!? Like I’m the type of person who, yeah I want to read the next book in a series if the first one is good but this series!?? MA’AM!?! My brain would physically NOT let me read any other book until I read the next one and saw what happened next, and it’s not even the fact that me last book ended much on a cliff hanger (well it did) but still. The ways in which M. J. Lawrie writes just makes you wanna dive back in. It’s like I’m a fish swimming in some good fishy water for the first time and I just want to swallow the whole ocean.

You know one character who I will never like tho? No matter what y’all tell me. Is Tee. Just something about that girl, like she’s just cries a little too much for my liking. Please doll just go take a seat in the back ground with some chocolate ice-cream a box of tissues and keep your mouth shut for a while. And then Noah… good old Noah. All I’m saying is that man could go suck a bag of many rotten you know what’s and shit his crazy ass up because whatever he is doing? I AM NOT FUCKING HERE FOR IT!

I thought we started getting better with the chapter management bc none of the chapters were like more than 27 minutes at most (which compared to the first book was great) but then we get to the half way mark… chapter 10… this chapter was a whopping 47 MINUTES LONG! At that point we’re closing in on the hour. Just ass a few pages and nail my coffin. Like I love the book but please! For the love of anything good let’s not do these almost hour long chapters. I didn’t it once and never loved it and won’t be doing it again after this duology no matter how good the book is.

And finally the amount of emotional whiplash this book gave me!?? Whew chile it was like my head was playing ping pong and o was looking back and forth and back and forth and my goodness do I need a second to recover after that one. Like this author takes the “I hate you but I love you” trope too seriously.

All in all I really recommend this book and duology to those who are interested in trying out a new genre or who just want something that’s really fast paced. This is definitely for you

I liked this one a little less than the last. I was still invested, but at this point some of the story got to be so much of the sameness that it became kind of ridiculous if that makes sense? Like the villain character being so persistent in his pursuit at this point just became almost silly. I was like come on dude move on she kissed you twice, and yet he's still this hell bent on attaining her. He still keeps at it when even his strategy of why he wanted her, was no longer in play. The other love interest and her had this sort of aggressive take hits at each other relationship, which yeah they are fighters and that's cool, but they constantly had to have it out with fists anytime they got in spats and it got a little old to where I was like I don't even know if I'm still rooting for this relationship when at times they get in fisticuffs like little children. The violence, esp that done to the main is so over the top. It reminds me of when I used to RP on servers and I loved to idk do over the top descriptions of damage to my character because I could and it was almost funny at times. It sometimes felt like that where the author just really, really loved to make the fmc suffer the most horrible violence to the point where it was almost comedic.

Idk that being said I still kept reading to find out what would happen. It wasn't like I was ever bored just the stuff again so over the top and extreme that it would take me out of it for a bit. I didn't see the ending coming, and I'm still quite shook over it. I can't decide if I liked or hated it. I guess it wasn't bad and overall I'm happy with it. Just again still a bit in a wtf state from it. Anyways sorry that all sounds quite harsh seeming, but overall I enjoyed this read.

It was pretty hard going for me...The first book wasn't so bad and I thought the second would be better.
Firstly, I didn't like any of the characters, especially Scarlett and Cass. I found them all immature and the book read like it was based at school. I understand, they are young adults but given how they live and all the training they've done since a very young age, I was expecting them to be more mature and more disciplined. And Scarlett- the worst of them. There isn't much of normal communication, just constant arguing and shouting at each other.
And her relationship with Cass, goodness, the constant I hate you , name calling, miscommunication and then 5 min love, well, it's just toxic.
After the first book, when she run away from Noah and spent time as a leader of her crew, I thought she would come back calmer and with better judgement but she just got worse.
I really wanted to like these series, especially because the Last Witch is one of my favourites, and I really shouldn't compare the two as they are so different. But it's the same author so I thought I would like this one too.
It's a good story and I love post- apocalyptic books, it's the characters that ruined it for me.

A really fun, fast paced read. I recommed this novel if you enjoy zombies, angsty romance, and the main character being a bad-ass super powerful hero. Also I live for angsty romance, so I absolutely loved the romance plotlines in this book!

I feel like there are some cliches and such, but I enjoyed every single one of them. However, that's why I chose to give it three stars over four (I would've given it 3.5 if it were my choice), there's some preditability, powerscaling badassery, the main character being the most desireable person to most people she meets. That, while fun, does require a little bit of not thinking too critically about lest you find an inconsistenty or slight plot hole. Again, for me, I still had a fun time reading it so I wasn't too put off by it. I love all these cliches and the story the fit into is fun. Just if one of those isn't your cup of tea, you may not enjoy it as much as I did.

As soon as she arrives back at The Verity, Scarlet's world seems to spin out of control as she is frantically & brutally arrested, and brought in front of Noah who hates her enough to want her dead, but psychopath enough to want her alive.  However, even Scarlet has no idea what fate has in store for her.

I would love to be able to give more insight into what happens in book 2 but I simply can't because you're going to want to find out for yourself!  No spoilers.  What I can say is that it is epic non-stop action from the word go, and there are a couple of big "What?!  Noooooooo! I didn't see that coming" moment's which blew me away.  This author is not messing around here, she brought out the big guns for this one.

Brilliant creative writing, great world building.  Easily one of my favourite book series this year thus far.

I received a copy of this book for free and am voluntarily leaving this review. (less) [edit]

Review from book 1: I decided to start this book on a Saturday evening while my husband was on tiktok and my step son played GTA. When I say it’s been YEARS since I was so into a book I felt 100% immersed that I didn’t hear a sound around me (not them telling me good night or the cat meowing at me) know I am not lying. This story is the perfect story to get completely lost in! The best way I can describe it is hunger games (kids taken from parents) meets divergent (they live within a big wall) meets walking dead (zombies outside the walls). Please go read it!
When I say I IMMEDIATELY downloaded book 2 after finishing book one I mean I barely waited for it to pop up on my kindle before trying to open it. Now that I’m writing this review? I’ve just finished the second book and it is now 5:33am. No sleep for me tonight but I have no regrets! 💕

Wow, Well that was a thrilling ride! Verity Part 2 definitely delivered a roller coaster of a ride. So much killing, twists and turns throughout.
The storyline is amazing, with zombies, love, friendship and arch-nemesis thrown in, to top it off.
I really enjoyed the story and I liked how descriptive the world-building was. I did find that the main MFC turned on her friends very quickly and frequently but that is my own personal opinion. The lead character is so badass 😎 and a force to be recond with. I would have liked to have seen the love interest have more of a role, I felt like he was not mentioned enough but again that is my personal opinion and this does not take away from the story in any way.
I did not see a few plot twists coming so that was a nice surprise.
Overall Verity was an enjoyable read and I rate this book a 4 star 🌟

Okay, giving it like a 3.8, not exactly a solid 4 but not lower than 3.5. I really enjoyed this duology! It was a great story filled with action, some romance and a lot of betrayal. I feel like there’s so much I can say about this book but I’m not going to go into super detail.
My heart ached for our FMC because girl really went through the fucking ringer, and she just had to keep it pushing. Like when I say she’s a total bad ass, I meannnn it, like I’m sorry she’s an it gurl. It’s just that my biggest problem with her is that she started fights ALL the time, and was so mean!!! It was lowkey kinda toxic lmao.
I do think it’s worth reading! I enjoy post apocalyptic type of books. There was some plot holes but nothing major that took away from the story. It was fun, easy to read and once I started it was hard to put down! Maybe it does deserve a solid 4 lol.

As with the first book in the series, I read this book some time ago, so storywise I knew what to expect. I loved it when I read it, but hearing it brought to life by Amy Putt was incredible. She put everything into telling this gritty, heartrending story and I fell in love with it all over again. I certainly shed a tear or two at one point in the story and was heartbroken when I knew the experience would soon be over. As I mentioned with book one, this is aimed at a YA audience, but I’m a grandmother and loved every bit of it. I would so love to know what happens next for Scarlett and the rest of the team.

I need more!

I absolutely loved part two, this series is fantastic the storyline is fascinating, terrifying and exhilarating, I need more.

Scarlet is a badass, I bloody love her. This author knows how to write strong, feisty heroines full of sass with an attitude to match.

The story reveals more secrets, revelations, danger and devastation as Scarlet tries to protect her team against the Zombies and The Verity. My heart was in my mouth, my anxiety through the roof but WOW what a ride.

OMG! Scarlet and Elder Eight, i knew i loved these two for a reason. So much love for them and of course Cass.

I need another book because I'm not ready to leave this world.

By far, M J Lawrie has become one of my all time favourite authors.

What I have learnt about this author is that she likes to keep you on your toes. I literally had anxiety through the whole book and not many authors can do that.

This is the second book that follows Scarlett, and her family during a post apocalypse. There were many times I laughed, cried, and screamed at the book. I just didn’t have a clue as to how she was going to end this, and that’s the beauty of her writing. She is not predictable. When I think she will go one way, she goes the other.

Highly recommend this author and her work.

Pros: The continuation of the premise and world-building was still decent. I enjoyed the drawn images at the start of each chapter (although it was frustrating that they sometimes represented that chapter, and others better represented the previous chapter). The action scenes were written well, and were exciting.

Cons: Overall, the writing was still pretty juvenile. There were odd phrasings, and a lot more typos or just incorrect words than even in the first book. The main characters also felt a little flat, and most of the twists felt predictable to me:

I really struggle to push through, and wanted to DNF multiple times. The end battle helped make up for it a little though.

M.J.Lawrie has delivered fantastic story telling once again. In this second instalment of Scarlett's journey to survive a world taken over by man-eating zombies, she manages to keep you gripped on a rollercoaster journey whilst also weaving in poignant and insightful narrative about human behaviour and the dire consequences that can ensue when greed and power is given more priority than humanity itself. Considering the current climate we are living in this book will leave you wondering if M.J. Lawrie has somehow seen a glimpse of what is yet to come!

High intensity action and emotion let down by a predictable villain and plot.

I enjoyed this second novel a bit more, as the writing seemed a lot tighter and on point. The intensity of the plot and emotions was high, if not a little predictable.

It's just the villain and his grey coats were a little one-dimensional, new world order, ultimate power, humans as cattle yarda yarda yarda.....

I did, however, really enjoy the action, a lot more this time around, with some pretty intense and well choreographed fights peppered throughout the second half of the story.

The Verity: Part Two is the brilliant conclusion to a duology set in a post-apocalyptic world with zombies, a religious cult, angsty romance, and a snarky, impulsive FMC ready to take down the whole system. I finished this book in one day. From the beautifully crafted world to the intense fighting scenes, I was absolutely hooked. This may be my favorite duology of all time. I wish this was a longer series, so I could spend more time in this captivating, post-apocalyptic world.
