Casual Talk on Philosophy, Religion and Good Life is a conversational narration on philosophy, religion and how to live a balanced life, laced with personal anecdotes of the author. It approaches these three heavy and convulated issues casually and importantly, realistically, as the content is built from a collection of authentic Q&A Sessions input with real respondents, along with an array of intellectual discussions of the said issues.
It feels like home to read a book about philosophy (and religion) written by a Malaysian (a dr from UM). I love how transparent his writing is, the monologues, the experiences and the Q&A.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s a refreshing and accessible introduction to philosophy—conversational, thought-provoking, and genuinely engaging.
My key takeaway: We are both finite and infinite beings. Our body and mind are finite, while our soul is infinite, existing even after our finite self dies. Life’s purpose is to find happiness for both aspects of our being.
Philosophy can be intimidating with its many different views. I was wary too, and worried about judgment. But this book highlights that philosophy is about exploring perspectives of truth, not defining the truth itself.
The book encouraged me to question my “whys” and “hows” in life. It made me reflect deeply, yet it did so with a warm, conversational tone that never felt heavy.
Many believe philosophy can lead you astray, but I think it helps you find your way. It teaches you how to think—and how not to think—and I really appreciate that. I’d highly recommend it to anyone curious about philosophy or seeking a fresh perspective on life.
