Never Say Never #2

Never Give Your Heart to a Hookup

Rate this book
Bad Boy? They’re a dime a dozen…
But a Good Guy who’s only bad for me? Well…

I’m not exactly the ‘take home to Mom’ type. I’m too outspoken and have never met an expectation I didn’t want to challenge.
And to put it bluntly, my professional career of being an intimate relationships counselor doesn’t make for polite dinner conversation.
Not that I care. I’m too busy changing the world, one healthy ‘yes, yes, yes’ at a time.

But Chance Harrington? He’s built his career and reputation on being the ultimate gentleman. Politeness and chivalry are his bread and butter, kindness and goodness are the foundation of his image, and he mentors young men to be their best, one podcast at a time.

We make no sense.

But falling at Chance’s feet in the most embarrassing meet-cute ever seems to be working out. We knew the rules - just a little fun, stress-relieving excitement for us both. Nothing more. But one encounter leads to another… and another, and no-strings-attached becomes dinners, dates, and heartfelt conversations.

Let’s just say I never thought it’d end up like this.

I never dreamed the straight-laced gentleman image hid a man who could make even me blush. But he wants more.
He’s after my heart. And the scariest part? I may just give it to him.

Never Give Your Heart To A Hookup is a full-length romance with a Happily Ever After. It can be read as a standalone.

Lauren Landish Can draw you in just by the title of the book. Then she’ll keep you there with her storyline………..if you enjoy books with a slow burn, where you can easily get lost in between pages and you can find plenty of laugh of loud moments….. I believe you have found yourself in the right place……

ღ This is a story about how opposites can attract.
➳Samantha, is a sex therapist in training, and her best friend talks her into selling sex toys. to make ends meet…….

➳ Chance, is sort of a motivational speaking meets Big Brothers mentorship type deal. He helps boys be better men, so they’re prepared for the life they want.

So, after a memorable encounter between Chance and Samantha……… Hey, trust me when I say memorable Encounter. It’s one of those encounters that you would tell your grandchildren about or maybe not. It might be a little bit too adult for them………

After one heck of amazing hookup for Samantha and Chance, they part ways, only to find out that Chance is Samantha's bff's brother-in-law…So, picture this in your mind’s eyes., how Chance wants more than just one night. Sam's not so sure, Due to the fact of her Upbringing.

Don’t you just love it when you find that the main characters in a story both are very likable, and they also share amazing chemistry, well guess what? This is one of those reads.………… Would I recommend this book heck yeah……

Highly recommended.

Safe, sane, and (hopefully) consensual

First, this book begins and ends with sex. In between is a lot of…sex. There is too little relationship development. The male characters are nothing more than misogynistic caricatures of masculine stereotypes, and their female counterparts are paragons of virtue (except for Olivia, who struggles with her behavior because she’s a teenager without structure). The message of women’s empowerment unfortunately seems forced, not organic.

Back to the sex, because, yes, that’s important to this review. The protagonist Samantha takes care of her needs, verbalizes her needs, sells adult toys to help others take care of those needs, and she is studying to be a therapist specializing in intimacy to better help people meet their needs. That’s awesome. But the “intimacy” between the heroine Sam and hero Chance, reads like a XXX film on hornpub—the kind that immature people use for tutelage then go on to ruin sex for their partners. The dialogue was particularly demeaning even if it was meant to be “consensual.” Sexual content this graphic needs to come with clear communication and a safe word BEFORE the action.

All of this felt even more disruptive because the male lead’s only flaw was his straitlaced personality, which was systematically destroyed in the bedroom, the dining room, the car, the office… Otherwise, he was a paragon of virtue worshipping at the altar of femininity, doling out orgasms, and realizing that men are pigs.

I was extremely disappointed because the author’s Bennett Boys and Tannen Boys series are two of my favorites, and in general, a Landish release is a must read for me. The book was almost a DNF for me. It’s a two because I actually managed to keep turning the pages until the end.

POV: Dual
Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️

This book read like a made for Netflix movie that I could picture clearly in my head, with not one but two funny meet cutes, and shenanigans that continued throughout the book! Best of all, I love how the rule following Chance and the wild, carefree Samantha perfectly compliment each other. Their story is fast burn and doesn’t slow down, and I feel it’s definitely the steamiest of the author’s romcom books (I’ve read them all)!

While it includes everything I love from a good romance, there is also a little bit of suspense and shows Samantha recovering from a pretty traumatic event. I am absolutely here for third act drama that doesn’t involve a breakup, so this book really has it all!

After a less-than-stellar introduction, Samantha and Chance end the evening with a drink and a little fun. They are truly opposites. Samantha, the sex therapist in training, is uninhibited and generous with her time. Chance is strait-laced and proper. Together they are dynamite. Absolutely explosive. And Chance wants more than just one night. Sam's not so sure. She's come from a broken home and isn't too trusting of the opposite sex. It's good to want the fairytale ending, but not many get it. Chance is willing to increase his odds by biding his time and hopefully changing her mind. It's probably easier said than done, but for Chance, Sam is worth it.

This book hit the ground running and never stopped!! These characters are both likeable and relatable and their chemistry was off the charts! Not only was this book rip-the-sheets-smoking-hot, it was beautiful as well. I highly recommend this amazing read!

It was good to pick up with the Harrington's and Luna/Samantha again. The set up for this book was soooooo good, but it fell a little short for a couple of reasons.

This book is 80% sex. Don't get me wrong, I'm down for the smut. But, it was almost enough that it took away from the actual story line and made the book feel really disjointed. I do like that Samantha communicated what she wanted and needed before, during, and after sex. Hell yeah. And she spent most of this book STFUATTDLAGG-ing.

My main gripe here is the trauma she goes through at the end of the book. Being kidnapped, beaten, and almost raped is a big deal. And while I think those things are important to touch on and talk about (as well as PTSD and healing from those events), I just really wasn't expecting it in a rom-com. It almost feels like they kind of got their HEA stolen even though they end up together.

And like, I'm just not reading books like this...for that heavy weight. It just left me sad. Because even though the author does talk about healing, those scars are long lasting and it's just....really fucking sad.

I am loving the Harrington clan. Each sibling has forged their own path and this story focuses on Chase Harrington. He is straight laced and has opted out of working for his father's company instead choosing to run a gentleman's club that focuses on helping young college men become their best selves. His structured and orderly world comes crashing in around him when he meets Samantha. She is a studying to become a sex therapist and after an initial hot and steamy hookup, these two can't seem to stay away from one another.

Along the way, we get to meet Chance's siblings and some extended family that had me in stitches. Any mention of Gracie always brings a smile to my face. I am loving this family series, it is so much fun and is definitely an enjoyable read.

Worth it!

So this book is a follow to Never Marry Your Brother's Best Friend. This book is Samantha, Luna's best friend. The way she meets Chance cracked me up. Their chemistry was amazing, and loved how she helped him see things in a different light. This book made me laugh, although there was a twist to keep you on the edge of your seat. We also get to see more of the past characters such as Grace and Peanut Butter. I loved the ideas and concepts that Lauren included in this story as a side gig. I also really liked how she included romantic views into the story from a psychological point of view.

I received this ARC for an honest review.

What a great addition to this series. I loved the story line. It is a fun, entertaining read that will make you laugh, over heat and it will even keep you on the edge of your seat! I thought that Samantha and Chance were perfect for each other even though they were complete opposites. I could not stop reading their story. it drew me in from the very start. I needed to know how it ended. I was not disappointed! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I felt so many emotions with Chance and Samantha’s story. They met by chance but as they spent time together you saw just how perfect they were for each other. Question is could they both figure their happiness is together or will they let what they think they want rule their future? I enjoyed their emotional journey.

This book starts out with all the spice you want and morphs into the angst you crave. The journey Sam and Carter go on to get to their HEA is well played out and gives a fresh look into romance.

Well, it was definitely interesting. I like a steamy book as well as the next person, but I feel in this case the steam replaced the plot. There were so many more spicy scenes when I was looking for the scenes where Chance and Samantha grew to love one another. I was just a little disappointed because I had really liked Samantha in the first book. Oh well, we shall see how the next book turns out.

I thought this book would be a nice light read after reading some darker romance recently and wow it took me by surprise how much I loved it! It definitely had its heavier kind of emotional moments too, but I adored the humor and the speak her mind attitude from our FMC.

We have Sam who’s a student to become a sex therapist, and Chance who is a very straight laced rule following “Boy Scout” type. I enjoyed the fact that this book gave you a whole new perspective of having a MMC explore his kinks / what he enjoys intimacy wise since more often than not we see that from the FMCs perspective. Sam also sells sex toys and after an awkward meet cute these two just have explosive chemistry.

I really wasn’t sure how I felt about Chance’s job. I got what he was trying to do but still found it odd, however I do think he turned it around in the end and found a way for it to be more than just a man’s club. I loved seeing him relax and not focus on his job so much thanks to Sam, I also loved that there was NO third act breakup. There was still a loooot of tension at the end with the situation, but it had nothing to do with the two main characters.

This book was funny, spicy, and heartwarming with the perfect amount of plot. You see both characters evolve through the book and I’m certainly interested in the rest of Chance’s family, as well as Jaxx! Although, mostly excited for Kyle’s book. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for the rest of the characters!!

This book was an emotional one for me. It was a bit different than the usual Lauren Landish rom-coms that I am used to, not better or worse, just different. It had some funny, sexy and breath holding times- a mix of many emotions.

I really enjoyed the FMC, Samantha’s strong personality and her ability to voice what she wants and expects from a partner emotionally and sexually. Commonly the MMC fills that role in most books, but not the case in this story. You get to see first hand as Chance loosen the reigns on his normally safe and controlled life. Samantha has a way of getting Chance to reach outside of his comfort zone and be spontaneous.

I loved their Meet-Cute and enjoyed watching their relationship bloom. Samantha was bomb waiting to go off when it came to meeting his family which was a laugh out loud moment and was my favorite part of the story. So funny!!

On a serious note- Samantha suffered a tragic event within the story that truly broke her and unfortunately will take a long time to recover if ever. I think for me, while it is a HEA, I couldn’t bring myself to a feeling of contentment that I usually feel at the end of a story. My heart just truly broke for Samantha and Chance. Maybe if there was more story showing that she was ok, I might feel contentment possibly. I hope that we see more tidbits of this couple in the future and see where life takes them.

Never Give Your Heart To A Hookup by Lauren Landish is book Two in the Never Say Never Series. This is the story of Samantha 'Sam' and Chance. Samantha is studying to be a sex therapist who comes from a broken home with a carefree attitude. Chase Harrington is the total opposite of Samantha with his planning, business pursuits and just is a uptight proper guy. Chase and Samantha have a one and done hot time but never expecting to see each other again. But fate has different plans for them. Loved this hot and funny read. I hope to read more from this author and series.

✦ Opposites Attract, A Psychology grad student that sells sex toys on the side, the president of an all-men’s mentoring club, and an embarrassing meet-cute. Dual POV's

⚠️ Trigger Warning for Sensitive Readers: There is an assault and attempted rape of a character.

Samantha Redding is in her last semester before she receives her graduate degree in Psychology. Her main focus has been on intimacy and relationships with the wish to become a successful sex therapist. Unfortunately, she has accumulated quite a bit of student loan debt so she begins selling sex toys on the side. While selling these toys she has a rather embarrassing meet-cute with a straight-laced, well-mannered, rule follower named Chance Harrington. Chance runs a Gentleman’s club which helps mentor young men. Even though they have obvious differences, sparks fly immediately. They’re quite taken with each other and the more time spent together they’re both realizing they give each other what’s been missing and desperately needed in their lives.

This was a fun read with a whole bunch of loveable characters. I loved Chance and Samantha together. Samantha was hilarious with her outspokenness and sexual honesty and how she brought Chance out of his shell. I cannot wait for more of the Harrington siblings with their sweet, loyal, and slightly dysfunctional family. I’m so looking forward to the mysterious Cole Harrington’s story. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

As always Lauren Landish made me giggle, laugh-snort, swoon and fall in love with her characters. This book was so entertaining and so dang funny.

What happens when you drop a box of “toys” at a handsome man’s feet….you end falling in love. These two were absolutely perfect for one another. Opposites attract and these two were HAWT!! This one was very spicy.

Highly recommended.

Worse than the first book in the series. The lead characters were too intelligent to put into what was a farcically presented book. The combo of stupidly silly situations combined with overly earnest endeavors of the main characters who are well-educated and well-spoken…the mismatch was bizarre. It felt like an excuse to write a bunch of sex scenes (and there ARE a lot of explicit sex scenes, so if that’s your thing, well…). After reading the first book some time back I swore I wouldn’t read the rest of the series but started this before I realized it was book two. Sigh. Don’t read them, there’s just so much better out there.

Chance and Samantha

This was one of those books that just made me feel good while reading it. It was low angst and high steam. It was funny but the humor wasn’t forced. The characters were awesome, both the main and secondary, and the plot was refreshing.

Samantha and Chance couldn’t be more different. Chance was strait laced and determined to make his business succeed. Samatha was in her last semester of her masters degree to become a sex therapist and was selling sex toys on the side. But no matter how different they seemed, they were perfect for each other.

Samantha was so fierce and fun. I loved that she brought out a new side to Chance and helped him gain some much needed confidence. Her work with him at his Gentlemen’s Club was so perfect for this plot. Chance got to see that while what he was trying to do was admirable, it wasn’t realistic in the bubble he created.

I love the Harrington siblings. They all bring something to to table and Samantha really brought them together in this book. The family dinner was hilarious and so on brand for Samantha. I loved the way she stood by Chance and he let her do her thing.

This was such a fun book. This series is so light and funny and this was the perfect couple for the second book. I can’t wait to read Cole’s story next! He is such a mystery, and I’m interested to see who his love interest will be.

I loved Chance and Samantha together! She brings out a side of him he didn't know he had and he shows her what it's like to be loved by a good man. All the swoony moments are balanced with hilarious ones and some grade A dirty talk!

Chance runs a gentleman club where he and his partner help young men become better versions of themselves. Samantha is working to become a therapist, specializing in intimate relationships. I absolutely loved how she stumbles into meeting Chance, quite literally! Their meet-cute is unconventional and perfectly them. I love how outspoken and witty Sam is and how Chance can go from the perfect gentleman to dirty talking alpha. They balanced one another out and help each other to see in different perspectives.

The spicy scenes will have you fanning yourself while the sweet scenes will have you swooning! I'm looking forward to more books in this series!

More Shenanigans From The Dysfunctional Harringtons

You'd have to hope that Chance and Samantha get their HEA as the Harrington family could certainly do with a therapist in the family! This sexy story had surprising depth as it chartered the choppy waters of male and female dynamics and explored how the actions and words used within a consensual and loving relationship have an entirely different effect in an unsafe scenario. I did keep getting a bit confused about who was who in the Harrington family as the names are similar, but I am enjoying this series.

It was actually better than I had expected.

I loved the character development, the story and the spice.

I did not see coming something that happened in the final chapters but I was getting a feeling about some characters before. It was a nice surprise, I just wish that it didn’t happen so fast.
