Interview with Peter

USA Today Bestselling author Merry Farmer lives in suburban Philadelphia with her two cats, Justine and Peter. She has been writing since she was ten years old and realized she didn't have to wait for the teacher to assign a creative writing project to write something. It was the best day of her life. Her books have reached the top of Amazon's charts, and have been named finalists for several prestigious awards, including the RONE Award for indie romance.
Home at Last (Peter’s POV) Short and sweet. Peter, Neil, and Magnus at home together after a long trip to Hedeon. 5/5.
How Orel Found His Pup (Orel) I was so happy to get this story. I felt Orel was enough of one of the Sons to deserve his own book, but I suppose the author disagreed. But this was a long story. 7 chapters. And it completely satisfied me. It was probably my favourite story in this collection. 5/5.
A Promise for Solstice (Sascha) This is a short story about Sascha and Oskar having Solstice eve dinner together. Oskar is feeling vulnerable after making friends with Orel’s new pup and wanting a love like that. Sascha thinks to himself that it’s not Oskar’s fault that he was treated so harshly and broken, and he deserves to be loved anyway. And that Oskar is now perfect for him, since Sascha always just wanted someone to love and take care of. L words are exchanged.
But it just doesn’t sit right with me since Oskar was conditioned to be that way. But they don’t know anything about mental health in this world. Oskar always made me uncomfortable and this story didn’t help. I wish that Oskar just didn’t exist in this series. 3/5.
Their Second-Favorite Game (Peter) This is a short one about Peter, Neil, and Magnus playing 2 truths and a lie. It was ok. 3.75/5
Solstice in Good Port (Lefric/Anton) This was another long one with 7 chapters. It was a bit upsetting because Lefric is trying so hard to free Anton and Hayk from slavery but he does not succeed in the end. That is one thing that upset me about Anton’s book as well, that they were not free in the end and I can’t believe it happened again! But in a later story, we learn that they were freed. I also didn’t love this one because there was an explicit scene with a woman. It was with Lefric, Olympus, Anton, Hayk, and Billie. They really should have just left Billie out of it. 3.5/5
Winter Wandering (Jace) Another short and sweet one. I enjoyed this a lot. Jace and Gennadi go for a walk in the snow, go skating, and talk about the future. Then they go home and have a short BDSM scene. 5/5.
New Hope (Conrad) This is a long one at 5 chapters. All the Sons are together again for the grand opening of the king’s city. I enjoyed seeing them all together again. And some people meeting for the first time, such as Hayk and Billie, and Appius and Conrad’s new friends from the Old Realm. This is where we learn that Anton and Hayk have in fact been freed.
But I was pretty upset by Dushka insisting that Conrad live in the King’s City with Appius and Aurora, to run the infirmary while Dushka remains in Kettering. Dushka insists they’ll still be together but just long-distance, and that it’s not the end for them. Conrad was upset but also insisted that it’ll work out for them. But why?! They could have let someone else do it. Like Mara. Or split the work so he would only have to stay there part of the year. After all the struggle Conrad went through to get back to him!! I’m pissed. 3.5/5.
Lunch with Magnus (Neil) This was a short but sweet one. I know a lot of people have read it already since it’s available when you sign up for her newsletter but I hadn’t read it before. I really enjoyed seeing Magnus more vulnerable with Neil than he is with Peter. 5/5.
Something New (Sebald) This takes place right after Sebald’s book and is a further conversation between Sebald and Jace about having pups. Jace gives Sebald some ideas to help Avenel feel fulfilled without the pain that Gennadi craves. And then Sebald puts it to the test with great success. 5/5.
Interview with Peter These types of interviews with characters as if they were real people and we could interview them is weird. I’m not a fan. 3/5.
Book Seven is enough to keep me pining for the next series. Like the antecedent books, it is well written. One just knows these people so well. When all the Sons get together, the writing is quite steamy!
A fantastic close-out to another wonderful series set in this world. I enjoyed revisiting familiar faces and making progress on subplots that didn't necessarily need a full-length follow-up.
I liked reading these short stories. They help wrap things up or give us insight to what all the "Wolves" are going through. Touched at times, laughing at others. Well worth reading.
