Things in the Attic: Book 1 of The Magical Relics Series

Rate this book
Before the difficult move into a fixer-upper on Uri Street, twelve-year-old Matt Steeling has the uncanny feeling that something isn't quite right about the place, but keeps this to himself and chalks it up to mere apprehension from uprooting. Soon after they settle in, he is plagued by strange dreams and even stranger impressions about a hidden room that neither his parents nor the realtor knows about. Unable to suppress these incessant feelings, Matt goes searching and finds an attic door concealed above the drop ceiling in the upstairs hallway. Brimming with curiosity, he climbs up into the attic and discovers a trove of wooden crates stashed away in the small room. Just what are they? Why are they here? And what's inside of them?

A dead fairy tuck submerged in an unknown fluid. The horn of a unicorn that grants one wish to anyone who wields it. A dragon's egg. A mirror that can predict an onlookers demise. A cursed wind instrument with the power to attract pure evil. And much, much more.

He decides to keep it a secret at first... but as he settles into this unfamiliar house and this foreign little town, he meets an ally, a beautiful girl named Austoria Freemark. They hit it off almost immediately. He has no qualms about confiding his findings to her, and she has no reserves about urging him to show her the relics.

When he does, she informs him about the two strange men in black who are always seen combing the streets of Homestead in their tinted-windowed, government-plated Ford, in search for something they can never seem to find...

The crates? The magical relics stored away in his attic?

Frightened by the prospect, Austoria wants nothing to do with any of this, so she gives Matt a serious leave the attic be, or leave her be.

All alone now and perturbed, Matt must determine the true purpose of the relics, the agendas of the bizarre government officials, and convince Austoria to help him... that is, if the men in black don't get to her first.
