Bluestocking Brides #4

Catherine y el marqués (Novias Ilustradas nº 5)

Rate this book

Catherine and the Marquis is book 4 in the "Bluestocking Brides" series.
I have been in Love with this series and looked forward to Catherine's story. It was worth the wait! Ms. Holt has created another vivid, funny, and so enjoyable story. I had to read this book in one sitting! I would recommend this book and the whole series!

Thorne came across as rigid & a bit of a prig. Catherine's
dad described her as "quite a handful." They were oil &
water together and did not mix well.

Guy & Julia of Bluestocking Brides #2 (same author) made
a more enjoyable couple.

Her sisters all found husband and now Mama wants her youngest to be married too. A rich gentleman would be even better. But after going through 2 seasons, Catherine would be okay with being an eccentric spinter aunt.

If you interrupt Catherine while she's star-gazing, it doesn't matter if your a duke, an earl or in this case, a marquis, you're not gonna make a good impression. She doesn't know all the responsibilities Thorne inherited when his father died, letting his family with debts and him having to reclaim the family seat. She find him irritating, but it's just because she doesn't understand what it is that she's really feeling and how attraction works sometimes. When the stubborn and outspoken young lady make friend with his sister, Catherine and Thorne won't have an other choice than address the fascination they feel for each other.

We finally meet the Chadwick's father (he's not an invention or imaginary after all ;p) and I liked knowing about the affection Thorne feels for his siblings. But his anger toward the end ruined the romance a little bit for me, and since he's so serious I wish we would witness more of how Catherine influence him to laugh and have fun. Catherine was my least favorite sister because it felt to me like she didn't want to grow up and she got on my nerves at times. But there's no doubt in my mind this series of short stories was worth the read.

You Don't Own Me💘

Catherine Chadwick💃💋 is the youngest of her sisters and the last to marry. She is strong willed and loves to star gaze on clear nights. In fact, that's how she meets her neighbor, the Marquis of Thornefield🐺🍆🌋. She is trespassing on his property while out star gazing one night.

They meet formally when she visits her best friend and next door neighbor, Lilith. Thorne🐺🍆🌋 is her over protective older brother.
Thorne🐺🍆🌋 is trying hard to restore their estate because his late father had let everything go, while he gambled, drank, and womanized their fortunes away.
Thorne🐺🍆🌋 wants to get married but he detests the vapid debutantes of the ton.
When he meets the intelligent, outspoken Catherine💃💋, he is very interested! But then he tries to change and control her, to make her into the very thing he hates!

Lecture sympathique (en français). L'histoire est fort courte (environ 140 pages) mais l'évolution des sentiments des héros ne m'a pas paru trop rapide. Certains passages sont amusants.

“‘…that last unmarried Chadwick girl will stay unmarried, mark my words.’ - Viscountess Charlecote.”

That would be just fine with Catherine Chadwick. Now that her older sisters have married well, she hopes Mama will be happy and leave her in peace so that she can watch the stars to her heart’s content – no such luck. There is a new Marquis in town and Mama is determined that he is meant for Catherine. The problem is they don’t seem to like each other. In fact the first time they meet, she kicks him (Catherine’s favorite defense strategy). Catherine does like his sister, though, and they become friends. Thorne and Catherine, on the other hand, barely tolerate each other and drive each other crazy. How on earth does Mama think there is a chance for romance here? From the moment Catherine kicked Thorne right through to the end, this story is heartwarming and humorous. The wonderful characters we already know, and a few new ones, are here. Catherine’s story is a great addition to this wonderful series.

Catherine and the Marquis.

I enjoyed this book, especially the main character, Catherine. Thorne was the typical overbearing and arrogant nobleman and I enjoyed his comeuppance. Catherine's mother was a terrible airhead, but her father was an enjoyable surprise.

Nicely written and entertaining. It was a pretty sweet story with nothing really dramatic or confronting - just an enjoyable read. Smiled all the way.

Ok

Not as good as the last two. Mainly, it was very hard to believe that they could possibly have fallen in love.

Personal Thoughts:

Fun and quick "Hate to Love" romance that kept me entertained.
They do not actually "hate" each other...it's more accurate saying they don't like each other.

Catherine is an outspoken freckled redhead that, contrary to other women's expectations, would LOVE to remain a spinster.

The Marquis of Thornefield has inherited his father's debts right along with the title.
He has a lot of responsabilities and he's striving to bring back honor to his family name.

Spitfire Catherine drives him mad but her liveliness is just what Marquis Thorne needs in his life.
"I came to call on you."
"Me?"
"Yes." He removed his hat and tucked it under his arm.
"Can you come down? My neck is beginning to hurt."
She grinned and swung her legs. "I'm not sure. I quite like looking down on you."

She finds him irritating but, when she befriends his lovely sister, they become a regular feature of each other's lives.

Soon even Thorne's mother and sister want him married to Catherine!
Lilith gave a sharp cough. "Oh, Mama, there is that thing we must do. Quickly, remember?" Lilith winked awkwardly at his mother and tried to look innocent when he caught the movement.
"Yes, of course. That thing." his mother agreed.

wink awkward

I enjoyed reading about these two even if the pace of the story slowed a time or two and I wasn't always a fan of the MC's attitude toward each other.

Lovely ending and HFN epilogue (reminded me a lot the 2005 Pride and Prejudice's movie).
"I need laughter in my life, Catherine. I need someone to tell me when I'm being an ass. I woud rather spend the rest of my days arguing with you than not have you in my life at all."

"«Una stella cadente!» Catherine gliela indicò, ma era già sparita. «Continuate a cercare, potrebbero essercene altre.»

Catherine is the youngest in the family of a gaggle of girls. All her sisters have married noble gentlemen. But, Catherine doesn’t mind that she is the last daughter at home. She doesn’t even mind that since she is the only one at home, she is the center of her mother’s attention. Of course, she is above all the matchmaking her mother does.

The next door neighbor is the Marquess of Thornefield and his family. Thorne has inherited the title from a father who was a terrible man. And the terrible man publicized his bad behavior. Thorne has worked hard to become the very best man he can. He will overcome the scandal following his family be being perrfect.

Catherine becomes friends with Thorne’s sister, Lilith. The more the two women are together, the more Catherine and Thorne are thrown together.

This is a quick read and a fun story.

Catherine believes she is completely different from her married sisters. She will never fall under the spell of some man. Thorne is a serious man and he knows he must marry a serious woman, who will be above any hint of scandal.

These two are perfect for one another.

This is part of a series, but it worked for me as a stand alone read. I look forward to going back and reading the earlier books.

Ms Holt has written well developed characters and a fast moving plot. She has created a story that I enjoyed.

All Catherine wants to do is look at the stars. Unfortunately, her Mother has other ideas, after all Catherine’s the last unmarried Chadwick sister. the arrival of the new and young-enough-to-be-eligible Marquis of Thornefield does not help matters. The matriarch of the Chadwick family is determined it is fate and he will surely fall for Catherine just like every other titled gentleman has for her sisters.
Thankfully he does not seem interested in her at all & of course she’s not interested in him!

This is the fourth story in the series & one I’ve been waiting for & it didn’t disappoint, Catherine is no shrinking violet & is outspoken. Thorne, he hates his real name, knows he needs to marry & no way does he want to marry a simpering debutante. The pair get off to a rocky start but even then there’s a spark that gradually ignites. I’ve loved all of these short stories, the characters are delightful & the plot is straight forward but kept me reading & I read the book in two sessions. Lilith is charming & I hope she gets her HEA

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Aspiring astronomer, Catherine Chadwick would rather spend her nights gazing at the planets than dancing to the tune of the society matrons. Unfortunately, when she is discovered by the Marquis of Thornefield on his newly inherited estate in the middle of the night, he is less than impressed with the risk-taking Miss Chadwick. Thorne is all about proprietary and avoiding scandal, whilst Catherine kicks up her heels and in her fun-loving way, disregards the petty rules being imposed on her. Working to restore the devastation wrought by his ne'er do well father, Thorne does not have time to entertain the local gentry, but when he sees how lonely his sister is and wanting her to have the friendships denied her in London, he allows Catherine to visit, not realizing that she is going to tantalize him at every turn. It is only when Thorne acknowledges his fears that he is able to see Catherine as the gem that she is, and for his feelings to show. Much to the delight of Catherine's ambitious mother, this romance comes to a happy and successful conclusion.

I received this book as an ARC and having read this author previously, I was excited to have been given the opportunity to read and review. I was pleasantly surprised to realized that it is a series and all four books were included. This is the story of four sisters, although there are actually five, but one has already found the love of her life and married. Although it is a series, I like that the author wrote the books so each can be read as a stand alone. She introduced the sisters in the first book but cleverly gave hints in each book to the men who will appear in the next book. I truly enjoyed the series and would highly recommend for your reading pleasure. If you enjoy following sibling sisters and the men who capture their hearts, I strongly suggest you pick this one up.

This is the 4th novella in the Bluestocking Brides series and is about Catherine, the final unmarried sister. In the previous stories Catherine was the feisty sister who was not looking to get married. Of course fate has a way of pushing those thoughts to the side in the form of one eligible Marquis of Thornefield. Thorne knows he needs to marry and produce an heir but is jaded by all the less than desirable debutantes on the market. When he meets Catherine, sparks often fly and not always of the good sort. But as the story goes, things change and you will have to read to find out how the two eventually come together. Another delightful story by Samantha Holt!!

Loved them all!

I have devoured each book in one sitting as they have been released. They are perfect for a couple hours of reading. I am so happy with Catherine's story! It definitely had its funny and trying moments where both the hero and heroine needed a "come to jesus" moment, lol. But that is the Chadwick girls for you! I hope there will be a follow up to each of their stories!

Fun read

I have really enjoyed this series. Yes, I feel it is important to start with book 1 to learn about the previous sisters to relate to many aspects and conversations in this book. I have loved that the girls have been strong independent red headed freckled women who end up with boorish straight laced men. Again, if you are looking for a simple but fun romance, you will not be disappointed.

Looked it!

Quick but totally enjoyable read. Catherine is such a delightful heroine and I love that she isn't concerned with what society dictates. She has a great attitude to gossip. Thorne is a Marquis who has lived a life burdened by his father's horrible lifestyle. He is striving to correct and bring honor and prosperity back to the family name. Well written and enjoyable!!

An Enjoyable and Funny Story

The fifth book in the Chadwick sister's series, sees Catherine the youngest daughter being married off by her ambitious mother. Catherine was not interested in being married as she spent all her time star gazing, but then she met the Marquis of Thornefield and both their world's were turned upside down. The story was amusing and and very readable and I would recommend it.

First, let me state that there are 15 chapters and an epilogue in this book. Unless you have the actual book in your hand, there is nowhere else that it states that information.
Now that's out of the way, this was another well written story. Again, the passion, the angst, the drama, the humor...everything you would want in a romance novel. Not too over the top, but with just the right measure of all the above.

A sweet Regency Love story

The youngest Chadwick sister falls hard and fast in this quick romance. Fans of the series will enjoy catching up with the family, however this is still a stand alone story.

Thorne and Catherine meet unexpectedly and sparks fly, yet neither want to admit to their feelings. He is an interesting character and I wish more of his story is told.

I have loved this series. I really enjoyed this one too. This is the youngest sister, Catherine's story of her and Thorne. Catherine never thought she wanted to be married like her sisters and when she first meets Thorne she did not like him at all. I like watching their relationship grow. This is a book kept me hooked from start to finish.

A little bit of laughter...

Sometimes, it takes a little bit of spice to make life more palatable. When it comes in the form of a pretty little freckled redhead, with a tendency to speak her mind, be prepared for a real taste treat! Catherine is just what Marquis Thorne needs to make his life more livable! An entertaining read, with humor thrown in for good measure!
