Knoll has fallen. The towers have left. And the Forest Queen has awoken.
A month after Knoll’s fall, Bria awakes in the Necrowood, her body entwined with the forest. With little recollection of the events that led to Knoll’s collapse, she turns to her estranged mother for answers. Yet beneath these answers harbor further questions about the reaches of her magic and the depths to which it is tied to her past.
Trapped in the Library of the Mist Keepers, Brent jumps between stories, trying to find a new sense of identity after embracing the mist. He begins to unravel the mysteries of the Council and the threat they place on the entire world. Yet, if he cannot find a way to escape the Library, all the knowledge he collected will be for nothing.
As new answers emerge from the shadows, Brent and Bria must determine the next steps in their journey and plant the seeds for their success. With the Order of the Effluvium and the Council of Mist Keepers forming an alliance, the two must also decide their roles in the upcoming battle. Will they be able to see each other again before it is too late? Or will they be forced to fight on different sides of Life and Death?

Thanks to the author for providing me an ARC to review.
I was so happy to be back in Rosada with everybody. Seeds of Vermillion had a lot packed into it that took me on adventures all around the map. I loved that there was nods to all the companion novels in this one that definitely bridged all the series together and showed that these characters are still out there somewhere. There was shocking revelations, a lot of healing for the characters and accepting what fate had brought them. I really like the way the series is going.
The most compelling story for me is Christof's story, I loved how much conflict he had between how he was raised and actually seeing things the way they truly were. His POV was really gripping and terror seeped through the pages at this horrific landscape that was quite unsettling. Bria and Brents POV's definitely gave that break with the terror, and it was nice to see their character development and learning to accept what had happened in Towers of Knoll.
Overall, it was a good instalment to the series and I can't wait to dive into the next one after that massive cliffhanger.
I was blessed with an early release in exchange for my honest opinion/review....and....whoa! with this and "Nothing in the Mist", E.S. Barrison has gone from a storyteller to someone who breaths life into her stories. This is the 4th in the Life & Death Cycle series. Bria and Brent were separated during the last battle and are now trying to heal in their distant locations. The war between the 3 power groups (Order, Council of Mistkeepers and Palaver of Magii) is rushing towards this couple, with wicked individuals doing all they can to take everything of value from Bria and Brent (as well as take over the world). There are some definite twists for those of you who have been following the series (less shocking if this is a stand alone read and you haven't followed certain personalities). I'd really give it 4.5 stars.
With the completion of Book 4 in the Life and Death Cycle, I am completely up-to-date with the published books about the Effluvium. This includes the 4 books in this series, the available Almanac stories, Speakeasy, These Sanguine Tides, and Newborn Camellias. The story of the Mistkeepers and the struggle to keep magic and storytelling alive in Rosada and beyond is really progressing as we see it through the eyes of Brent, Bria, Yaz, and Christoff in this installment.
I particularly love how Brent is developing ( even if his best friend was a pineapple for a while 😄) and how we are starting to get a glimpse of his future visions and all he can be. ...And Christof's POV provides a fascinating look into the mind and manipulation of one of Rosada's morally gray characters.
