New Age Cozy Witch Mysteries #1

Magic Books and Dirty Looks

Rate this book
Mobile veterinarian Dr. Samara Vestry has her hands full with two magic cats—one’s cursed, and the other wants to protect her. If they were sweet, simple, talking cats, life would be easier. Instead, they’re sassy, always bickering, and nuttier than a squirrel in a cage.

She thought the cats were her biggest problem. But when a local detective winds up dead, Samara gets tangled up in the case. While nosing around, she’s forced to make decisions that lead to dire consequences—choices that can’t be undone.

Can Samara and her friends find answers that don’t want to be found? Or will she find herself caught in a spiral of lies and deception?

I love to write cozy mysteries with fun, quirky characters, talking cats, witches, small-town communities, and puzzling stories with clues that give you a chance to solve the puzzle before the sleuth.

Magic realism, cozy witch mysteries, and new ages witches are how I'd probably shelve my books.

Fun, fresh, fast-paced cozy reads!

I felt that the character development could have used a lot of work in this book. The main character wasn’t that likable, outside of when she did her veterinary work. She was very good at playing the victim, whined about everyone, and didn’t say a nice thing about anyone. Yet when the characters were in a scene, they weren’t portrayed the way she spoke about them internally. She was very jealous, petty, and simply unlikeable. I loved the cats and would like to see them further developed, too. I find her Aunt’s story intriguing and this may have been a better focus for the book than the murder investigation. There was zero reason for any of them to be involved in the murder investigation. They had no vested interest or reason to be involved, outside of pure curiosity, which made it a weak plot point. I found it odd the way her Dad paraded his step-daughters around, though they were adults. It was a weird vibe. The only reason I may read the third book in this series is to see her aunt’s story resolved. I will not be reading the second book.

Can Samara and her friends solve this mystery?
I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Samara is a mobile vet which two cats, one cursed and one protective. Gloria is the cursed cat and is sort of a troublemaker.

She has three sisters, all witches and an incredibly noisy neighbor who lies when caught spying. Samara is part of a book club and they decide to investigate the death of a detective.

If that's not enough to keep her active her divorced father decides to move close to her, a cop hassles her frequently and another talking cat wants to teach her to use magic.

So all she does if have to deal with the noisy neighbor, her unwanted divorced father, two talking cats, a troublesome cop and a murder.

What could go wrong?

A fun read.

Dr. Damage and Friends,

Right from the first moment that Samara and her Cat move into her first home, things began to go wrong. Having always wanted a home of her own, She doesn't even get a few boxes unpacked before she's involved in a murder. Then a Shadow Cat moves in to get her up to speed with her magic. Her original Cat is really her mothers sister who was turned into a talking cat at an early age. Keep an eye on these two cats.

First in a series.

2-1/2 stars. I like parts of this book. Samara's family is not one I would like to have. I like her two sassy cats. The mystery part is good. It kept me guessing who the murderer was. Things that irked me were: Samara breaking a Federal law, keeping important evidence from the police for awhile and putting off learning important spells. I will read the next book to see if it is better than the first.

Magic Cats

Sam is a veterinary with a mobile practice and she is a witch. Her aunt was changed into a cat and she has been trying to figure out how to change her back to a human. She can communicate with her aunt in cat form. Another talking cat showed up to help train her in witchcraft. She is also dealing her sisters relationship that isn't working and trying to solve a murder mystery. I liked the witches and talking cats. Easy read and entertaining.

Great mystery

Samara and her friends try to solve the mystery of who killed the detective. Salads also just bought a house and moved in. Her neighbor gives her a hard time about parking g her veterinarian van in her own driveway. The neighbor also calls the police on her. It's very interesting all the things that happen. You will not be disappointed reading this mystery.

good start

I liked this new series. The plot and subplots move quickly and makes a fun read. The characters are defined but have
Room to grow and develop. I look forward to the next book.

Not your usual witch story

Well she found a new twist on the normal witch story. It was very intriguing and had me guessing for quite a while. Looking forward to more entertaining things from a creative author.

I found this one a little disjointed, as if I were reading two different stories. The mystery seemed to be just an afterthought, and the main character did things that didn't make sense. I did like the book okay, but it wasn't really for me.

Funny

I loved Gloria, she was funny and more so when Fay came into the mix. The head games. got a like tiresome. The subtle romance was cute. Read the story I think you'll enjoy it too.

Typical

Typical cozy. Characters insist they must investigate a death when they have no good reason to be involved. Characters are not particularly appealing. Nothing about the town before I gave up because typical cozies are typically ludicrous.

Two moody cats and a dysfunctional family give the basis for a funny story, with added magical moments. It took a few chapters to get into, but well worth it and I want to read the rest of the series soon.

Good book with some magic in it, good story builder and a some kind of different main character. I'll be checking book 2 for sure!
