I absolutely love this children’s book series, where I simply cannot get enough of them. My favourite children’s book.
All young girls will be fascinated by the Unicornia series. I have read 2 of the first in the series and love the idea Unicornia is a special place where dreams come true. Unicornia A Magical Birthday is an amazing escape of fantasy reading for any little girls from 5 to 7 years old. It’s Pippa’s birthday, and she is feeling very sad as her parents can’t make it home in time to be with Pippa for her birthday party. Her parents have the most fabulous job, looking for lost unicorns around the world, saving them bringing them back to Unicornia. Pippa is lucky to have best friends that make sure Pippa enjoys her birthday, well that’s what best friends are for, to always help each other, and have the best time ever. What’s to look forward to, Pippa’s yummy sprinkled covered birthday cake, and beautiful flying unicorns.
For all little girls that are a big fan of Isadora Moon that is half vampire, half fairy by Harriet Muncaster will adore theses gorgeous Unicornia colourful covered illustrated books in the series as they are simply the best.
All unicornia books will look absolutely stunning on any girl’s book shelf. I’m so looking forward to the third book in the series. Thank you so much Walker books for sending me this wonderful book to read and review.
Unicornia: A Magical Birthday is the second book in the children’s chapter book series, Unicornia. The series is about a young girl named Claudia who moves to Unicornia, a magical place filled with unicorns, glitter and magic, as her parents open a shop there.
Claudia attends The School of Advanced Magic and it is here that she meets her best friends Pippa and Sara. It is Pippa’s birthday and the trio are coming up with big ideas on how to celebrate, including a huge party with lots of glitter. However, when the day arrives Pippa doesn’t want to have fun as her parents can’t make it to her party as their flight home (they’ve been off finding lost unicorns) is cancelled.
Claudia and Sara, however come up with a great plan to give Pippa the day she deserves.
Just like the first book in the series, Unicornia: Learning to Fly, this second book is like a big, warm hug that holds youngsters to the pages and gives them an amazing, entertaining read.
For anyone who adores stories about unicorns or magical lands this book will be perfect. The pages are illustrated in different hues of green, just like the first book used different hues of pink. The drawings are perfect and quite Anime styled.
With its short chapters and wonderfully created characters Unicornia: A Magical Birthday is a beautiful book that shows what true friendship is all about and it will touch the hearts of readers.
It's Pippa's birthday! Claudia and Sara are excited to celebrate her birthday, they can't concentrate in class! They can only think of cakes, sweets and candies!
But... Pippa is only excited to see her parents on her birthday. Her parents are rarely at home busy searching for lost unicorns. Pippa lives with her grandma.
Too bad, on her birthday, her parents are still not home. As best friends, Claudia and Sara are set to take her sorrow away. They spent the day with cakes, magic and a big surprise at the end!
It's all magic and fun in Unicornia!✨️🦄The magic is endless even in trouble! When their Ferris wheel got stuck, a herd of Emergency Unicorns came to the rescue!
In this book, Pippa's birthday is highlighted, but both Claudia and Sara also play huge roles as good friends. Claudia, as a newbie in Unicornia, is still using her newbie card in certain situations.
The way a family works might differ from that of other families. Claudia asked her parents about this, showing that she observed, was curious and had just learned something new.
As someone who likes to prepare lists and tick them off, I really enjoy the list of things that Claudia prepared.
Thank you #Pansing @definitelybookskids for this copy. This book is available at all good bookstores. Don't miss the cute bag charm while stock lasts.
I read the first with my 7-year-old son, who liked it well enough, this episode I saw was very similar in concept and structure.
Claudia is now not quite so much the new girl in the magical realm of Unicornia anymore, but still wide-eyed and excited over every wonderful little touch about her new home - from football in the air to croissants with never-ending chocolate in the middle.
Now planning a fabulous birthday party for one of her new best friends, Pippa, they are all somewhat perturbed by the fact that Pippa's parents work away from home and might not be there for her birthday celebrations. They determine to be Pippa's family for the day and make it a wonderful one anyway.
Much magic ensues, much delightful unicorn-based sparkle, sweet food activity and fun.
It's twee for me, it's delightful for the age group I'll warrant, and about perfect for the Daisy Meadows audience who are now reading for themselves. Short chapters and a short total page length, this does have good lessons at its heart but is sweet beyond measure for adults.
Lots of wonderfully imaginative ideas though, it's chock full of them.
For ages 5-8.
With thanks to Walker Books for providing a sample reading copy.
Oof. This even failed to grab the attention of the tiny audience who won it in a raffle and was SUPER excited because BIRTHDAY PARTIES! UNICORNS! RAINBOWS! Urgh.
It was horrendous to read: melodrama between friends and general sulkiness and interpersonal grade-school disaster? Trying to cheer up a sad friend and failing here and there? Manufactured drama for the sake of a dilemma and therefore plot and oh my goodness I hate DNFing, and in this case it came as a palpable relief.
Highly recommended to independent readers with a lack of experience and therefore discernment. They might enjoy it, and it doesn't so much matter what kids read so long as they are reading. If this catches their fancy, run with it. It didn't grab mine, and it failed to even entice the intended audience.
If I could give ten stars for illustrations I absolutely would. The colour palette is just perfect - when I was an 8 year old girl I would have finished this like a cheesecake!
Fun, funny, beautifully illustrated and filled with unicorns and sass. Yes. Sign me up for any further to come.
Lost a star because I am way too old to appreciate the content now, but 8 year old me gives it a resounding 100 and wants to befriend all the friends.
ARC provided from the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
A Magical Birthday continues the story of Claudia, Pippa and Sara in the magical land of Unicornia. Once again, it will inspire imagination and presents a very positive view of friendship, as well as empathising/understanding that everyone faces different situations and problems to yourself. The girls go from excitedly planning a magical birthday party, to figuring out how they can support their friend after some disappointing news.
I think this will be very keenly received by Year 2-3 students in my library.
This was such a fun book in the Unicornia series! Claudia and her friends celebrated her friend Pippa’s birthday because Pippa’s parents were out of town. Even though Pippa was sad, her friends were able to give her the best birthday. The story is set in the fun world of Unicornia with Unicorns that fly around and even act as first responders and rescue people! I love the art in this book. The pictures were in black, white, and shades of blue.
Unicornia: A Magical Birthday is a fun book for young readers!
Thank you Candlewick Press for sending me a copy of this book!
I really like the book because it had a birthday in the story and the twist was very interesting. I liked the characters and was looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
The book loses 1 star because it is not as good as another book in the series.
Aquela ambivalência entre querer estimular os hábitos de leitura da criança mas depois ter de ler sobre festas de aniversário e unicórnios... E o pior é que são uns sete livros... * suspiro *
