Flossy learnt right from the get-go that to expect anything from anyone (apart from her grandmother) would only ever lead to disappointment. That all the minutes and seconds of her life constantly intersected with the hard and tough minutes of everyone else’s, right from the moment she entered this world and let loose a wail of arrival.
It was the friends who couldn’t be bothered to return the friendship, the dates that were only ever interested in one thing, and the general strangers who were never interested in returning her smile.
Florence loved two things. Her job at the library and her grandmother, Dot.
Apart from them?
People sucked.
Nathaniel Connors loved a challenge.
Tall, dark, and handsome; Nathaniel Connors sailed through life on a dimpled smile and buckets of charm. But when Florence finds him in the library, breaking more than one rule, she might have been the first person who didn’t give him the time of day.
If there’s one thing that Nathaniel needed to do now, it was to convince Florence that he was worth her time, and that there were people who were worth her while.
I have never identified with a Female Main Character more, Florence is basically me, and watching her go through her own personal growth journey really hit me in the feels.
Things I Loved, -Page 1, Paragraph 1, This book has just taught me a new life skill that I will be implementing in my own workplace when trying to look busy, but not actually be busy, "Click, Click, Revenge" is my new favorite game. By Page 2, I immediately knew Florence and I were kindred spirits and going to be besties. -The majority of this book is written from Florence's perspective, Florence's voice basically narrates with the most hilarious inner monologue, written so beautifully it is impossible not to connect with Florence and humanize her from chapter 1. -Dot, Florence's grandmother, 100% want her as my own Gran, coming in with the perfect words of wisdom (and cookies) at the perfect time, impossible not to love Dot. -The banter between Florence and Nate is superbly done, the "reverse grumpy sunshine" was executed so well it had me stupidly smiling in public, then doing the quick look around to see if anyone saw me looking like a Cheshire cat. -Nate! Nathaniel Connors had me in a puddle on the floor. Hot, Oozing Charm, Patient, the perfect man, I swooned.... you will too.
Convincing Florence will have you stupid smiling, laughing out loud, fanning your face in those spicy scenes, feeling all kinds of tension, and then it will put all those feel good butterflies in your belly with the perfect ending and epilogue. I love a good HEA.
Favorite Quotes, "Where you invest your love, Floss, you invest your life" - Dot "Ladies and gentleman, may I present to you, Self sabotage" - Florence's inner narration.
Convicing Florence was just the book I needed to read. It was sweet, heartwarming, emotional and relatable.
Florence was a great character. I actually enjoyed reading about her and found her so relatable at times. She was strong, smart and pretty much has my dream job. Nathaniel is swoon worthy and I knew he was going to be perfect. I loved his understanding, humour and general patience with Florence. And Dot!! Dot is the most perfect person, i felt her positivity radiate through the words.
The book was written in first person from Florence's pov and it all just made so much sense. There is one chapter in the entire book that is written from Nathaniel's pov and it comes at the perfect time.
There were some moments in this book that made me teary but they really showed the importance of some characters and why they are the way they are.
This is an excellent contemporary romance that has been well written, with great characters and a beautiful conclusion.
I am so glad to have been given the chance to read another one of Celine's stories :)
I LOVED this book! Stemming from a lifetime of issues and perceptions early life trauma/loss had given her, Florence has crafted her world to be one that is safe and well protected. It is in the unexpected arrival of Nathaniel that everything she’s convinced herself she needs to be safe is challenged.
Such a beautiful re-coming of age story about how trauma can impact us and how letting life in can be the most terrifying and healing choice. I’m so grateful I read this book! I loved Dot, Flossy, and Nate all so much!

Wow. I normally hesitate reading books that doesn’t have much reviews but this book just made me change my mind. I loved this book, and I knew from the first chapter that I was gonna LOVE this book. How? The writing… Florence… I just loved it. Also because I see so much of myself in Florence. Avoiding people in order to keep my heart safe. Hope a Nathaniel finds me in my corner too. I was also experiencing a reading slump, not liking or getting exited for any book. I would say this was a slow burn but not like Mariana Zapata kind of. It was way, way, way better than that.
I am truly madly deeply in love with Nate. He was so patient with her. He did everything right in my perspective. Except leaving her alone that long with his friends. I would love to read Nathan’s POV from the start of the book. I kept wondering what was going inside his head.
Also the fact I called him Nate, Nathaniel and Nathan without noticing is so funny to me right now. ( Let’s not forget Nat, which is an awful nickname for him)
I wasn't sure about Convincing Florence. It's a slow burn, like slow slow and I found a good portion of it childish. But I found myself being immersed in Flossy and Nates story and rooting for their relationship.
Florence has this doom & gloom, hermit like personality.. she and I could ALMOST be the same. 😅 Her back story is sad, but we don't get the full picture until almost the very end, which was a bit frustrating, but it was her personality to put off talking about it, to her detriment.
I loved watching her bloom, it was adorable. She did a complete 180 towards the end of the book and I loved it.
Nate was a fun character. He was charming and funny, and definitely sweet. He had the cutest relationship with Dot (Florence's grandmother).
I felt the intimate scenes were a bit bland, but it's nothing too important. It's more about leading up the act than the act itself.
The enemies to friends to more trope is top notch. Definitely an adorable romance with an HEA you won't regret reading.
"If you want something to happen, you make it happen. If you sit and wait for it to come to you, it never will. If, for some reason, something is dropped on your lap by the grace of the universe, you have a responsibility to see it through, to do better. Be better."
Originally I wasn’t sure what to make of this book. I’m not really a fan of super slow burn romances and this book is all about that. Initially Florence’s doom and gloom, “I hate the world” internal thoughts frustrated me so it made it harder for me to get into.
I’m not sure at what point that changed but change it did! I found myself desperate to read all about Flossy and Nate and wanting to know what happens next.
I really loved Nate. Not just for Floss, but as his own character too. He was charming, funny, sweet and definitely brought out a good side to Floss. His relationship with Dot was so precious as well.
I’m a bit of a pessimist and a lover of third act breakup scenes so I knew the other shoe would drop but I wasn’t expecting the how and definitely wasn’t expecting the after. I can’t say much without spoiling it but the way it got wrapped up was so well done and I was proud of the work a certain character did.
Overall, this was a fairly light-hearted, easy read. It started off as a super light enemies to lovers and ended with a very sweet HEA.
🍪 strangers to lovers 🍪 reverse grumpy x sunshine 🍪 personal growth and healing 🍪 bit of a slowburn 🍪 hea 🍪 cookies
Very adorable and, at times, pretty emotional. This story follows our grump of a fmc, Florence. She's convinced that she's better off alone and she is not willing to put any value in connections with people. All in the name of self preservation. When Nate comes along, she begins to question her rules of allowing people to get close. The result? A very conflicted woman. I can relate, though maybe not to the extent displayed by Florence. At times, her "rules" and walls she built up annoyed me. Good for Nate for sticking around, cause it took a WHILE to breakthrough. My favorite character hands down is Florence's grandmother, Dot. She's such a wild child and I adored her. She's so caring and loving, while respecting Florence's wishes.
I do wish we saw more development in Nate's character. I felt like his character was, beyond charming and handsome, a bit flat. I would have liked to dig a little deeper. There are also a few moments where it's written in an almost epistolary way. It didn't bother me, but I know some people perfer to keep that fourth wall up while reading.
Overall, a cute story and I'd recommend to anyone looking for a quick read.

Big thanks to the author and Equality Book Tours for the eARC.
Florence doesn’t like people other than her grandmother. She has realized that others are always taking from her and not appreciating her. (Who hasn’t felt that way once in a while?!) While working in the library one day, she bumps into rule-breaker Nate and he decides to convince her that people aren’t all that bad.
I liked that the writing style included moments when Florence was talking directly to the reader. I feel like it gave a true picture of her feelings, which definitely involved some humor! I also really enjoyed the fact that the FMC was the grumpy one!!
Thanks to @allieverdoisread and @equalitybooktours for a review copy of Convincing Florence.
A cute and slightly steamy story, a reverse grumpy to sunshine trope!
I love books set in libraries but the FMC Florence, is a librarian who doesn’t like to let anyone get close. Her only friend is her grandmother Dot who raised her. Then Nathaniel starts showing up at the library … and wants to rebuild her faith in people.
Almost all the story is told from Florence’s POV. It’s a slow burn at first but then things heat up 😉. Oh and Dot’s adorable! Loved the book club.
I wasn't expecting to love this book as much as I did. It was sweet, good humour, and easy to read. I found I really identified with Florence especially considering the whole way through I was waiting for some ugly truth about Nate to come to light. It had a really lovely message and all in all was a really enjoyable love story ❤️

Thank you to Goodreads and related publishing contributors for the giveaway! Overall, I found this book an entertaining diversion, particularly midway through. I thought the lovers' conflict around 80% of the way through was thin and weirdly interjected a POV that had not been developed until that point and was not revisited. The realizations the main character made about herself following that contrivance were moving, but the pitfall to get there was hasty and unearned. Still, I found myself smiling through dialogue in many parts of the novel, so three stars from me.
“Once we’d finished, Nate, ever the gentleman, offered himself as tribute to do the dishes. I’d learnt something then that I didn’t realise before; there is a certain allure to a man wearing bright pink washing gloves, standing by a sink, doing the dishes.”
“This man. He looked at me like I was an oasis and he was dying from dehydration.”
“A first glance at him, with his preference of tight denim and dark shirts, his tousled dark hair, and his piercing blue eyes, you might’ve never known he was able to touch you so gently, in a way that conveyed all the bravest emotions that people usually kept under lock and key.”
“Florence Valentine had walked right into my life with purpose in a pencil skirt that did things to me I couldn’t rightly put into words, and I was undone. Completely and totally undone.”
This book was an unexpected surprise! In the beginning I wasn’t immediately pulled in, the FMC, Florence, was unlikeable and cynical in a way that I am not. And her treatment of the MMC, Nathaniel, seemed really over the top mean. But, just like Nate managed to slowly thaw Florence’s frozen heart, this story started to suck me in. It ended up becoming a story filled with themes of self discovery, learning to let go even if it means getting hurt, and breaking down the walls we build so people around us can see who we truly are. I love Nate’s mischievous but heart and the patience he has no matter what Florence throws his way. I also love how Florence grew so much even though it meant admitting a lot of uncomfortable truths about who she thought she was. This was a true character driven story, with humour, sweetness, a ton of life lessons, and a pinch of tension and spice sprinkled on top!
4/5⭐️ 2/5🌶️ (a couple of open door scenes, not very descriptive)
With the exception of her beloved grandmother, Dot, librarian Florence Valentine isn't much of a people person. She's been burned too many times by people who've let her down, so in her view, it's better to avoid relationships altogether. Her beliefs are challenged when she meets bar owner Nathaniel Connors, a library patron who pushes all of her buttons by breaking the rules. Nate takes an interest in Florence and sets out to prove that there are plenty of good, trustworthy people in the world - including him. She thinks he's just trying to antagonize her, but could Nate actually be trying to convince Florence to fall in love with him?
It took me a little while to get into this book, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. Florence was a quirky heroine and her inner monologue could be a lot to handle, but she had a delightfully snarky sense of humor that became more apparent as I got to know her better. She came a long way over the course of the book, realizing in the end that maybe the problem wasn't with everyone else, it was her own fears holding her back. Nate was the perfect guy to drag Florence out of her comfort zone and get her to start engaging with the world. He was so sweetly patient with her, and their banter was a ton of fun.
I recommend "Convincing Florence" for all contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans. It was the first book I've read by this author, but it won't be the last.

Here's a play by play of my thoughts as I read this book.
"Girlllll if a hot guy came into my work and flirted like that, I would be into it immediately."
"Nate is a good guy! Give him a chance!"
"Not even a dinner with him? Not even a drink?"
"I love Dot."
"Okay, let's trade places, you're about to push this man away!"
"Okay good, honesty and openness, yes, keep on this path."
"FLORENCE!!!" 😡🤦🏼♀️
"I really love Dot."
"Nate, please don't give up on her!"
"Shit. Shit, shit, shit."
🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪
This book was the definition of trust the process, because I was so ready to kick Florence to the curb many times. But the last 30-40% of the book, she put in the work and tried to fix the problems she created.
I adored Nate. Definition of, "if he wanted to, he would." Minus when he dog eared a book. 😂
Dot was an angel of a grandma/mom/human to Florence and I bawled my eyes out in chapter 38.
Read this book y'all! 🖤
🍪Reverse Grumpy/Sunshine 🍪He Falls First
Thank you @equalitybooktours and the author for a gifted ebook copy!
Contemporary romance books are my go-to books to have a break from fantasy worlds/world building and I happened upon this book based on a reel that had a snippet from it that intrigued me.
Florence is a fairly relatable FMC for me seeing as she has a fairly pessimistic view of people in general and spends her time and energy with only one other person. I liked seeing her growth and I think her reaction to her changing routine is very realistic. Her inner monologue is equally relatable and at times borderline annoying but probably because it reminded me of myself too well for my liking.
Nathaniel (Nate) is the perfectly patient and charmingly persistent MMC that has a love for living and wants Florence to experience the same thing. He really is such a kind man and he did bring a smile to my face with most of his charming endeavors.
Overall the book was a quick and easy read. I wouldn’t describe it as a spicy romance book, but there is some on page descriptions of things, but nothing over the top or deeply descriptive. Not a super memorable book but not a bad book either.
-librarian fmc -guy trying to get the girl -frenemies to lovers -overthinking fmc -iconic grandmother -reverse grumpy x sunshine
Thank you to the author for a gifted copy for review!
As a children's librarian, I nearly threw up at the booger incident, it is all to real for what the job is like lol. I enjoyed this book and it’s characters! It did take a while for the fmc to grow on me, as I was a little irritated with her at some parts. But after her whole realization I quite enjoyed her as she stepped out of her shell and made friends! I love that she is in a book club with Melissa now! Dot carried this story as well lol. She was such an icon and I want a book about her finding cute elderly love lol. I don’t have too much more to say, it was just a cute bookish themed read and I loved seeing all of the character development and growth!
📚Convincing, Florence📚 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Thank you @equalitybooktours & @allieverdoisread for a copy in exchange for an honest review! . At first, I was very nervous about this because the FMC very much reminded me of the FMC from The Maid and I did not love her. As the book went on, I truly began to like Florence and all of the sass she brought to the table!
Overall, this was a very enjoyable read! The author did an amazing job writing the story and setting the scenes without an array of characters or excess conflict. I highly recommend this if you are a romance reader and love a good grumpy X sunshine trope.
LIKED: 🍪Forced proximity 🍪Legit perfect love interest 🍪A good dash of spice 🍪Short, quick chapters
Found more than several similarities with Florence which I still haven't decided if that's scary of normal, but Dot is the one that won my heart. This was a quick read and so funny in places - managed to catch me off guard couple of times and made me laugh out loud (I may have even snorted loudly in public and got some looks) and the smut was okay. Weirdly enough what I noticed about this one, is that Nate is one of the rare MCs that didn't charm me in any way? He's there, his character does what it should and that's about it lol. But Dot, oh Dot <3
I have read all of Celine's books, and this one hit differently. The plot is so well written and flows throughout. The way our two characters, Florence (Flossy) and Nathaniel (Nate), meet is hilarious. She's a librarian, extremely stuck in her ways, and ultimately dislikes people bar her grandmother Dot. He's set on convincing her that people aren't as bad as she seems to think. He's charming and funny, and he just makes you swoon.
The banter in this book was incredible, very quick witted and hilarious 😂
I loved how well thought out the steps in their relationship grew. It was slow and delivered some of the most divine intimate moments that had me feeling like a puddle.
This book was really cute. Like a librarian girly who doesn't like anyone except her grandma. It was just like a little unrealistic for me. Nate like finds himself in the library and becomes smitten with Florence for no reason.
The third act break up was because she left the bar early after not wanting to spend the whole night with his friends while he mingled without her?
And then after 3 months they get back together and the epilogue is her having a baby lol. Idk cute just not the most riveting book I've ever read.

Florence lives by the rules of the library she works at. One day, Nate walks into the library and breaks every rule she has. After pushing her too far, she walks out of his life. Back to the boring monotonous life of work and home she has known her entire life. She begins to rethink her decision but ultimately decides to leave the past where it is, no matter how much it hurts.
This rom com was so good she earned a spot on my ATF ( author to follow) list. Also, doesn’t hurt that the book is a KU selection.
The hero was supportive often take a backseat to watch the heroine flourish on her own timetable-sure there were some hiccups along the way but he remained patient while she worked through it all. This made the ending all the much sweeter.
I adored this book. The story line is so cute. I caught myself smiling at parts throughout it, and it had moments that gave me those sweet butterfly feelings. It's the perfect light read between some heavy darker ones. The author did a great job with this story.
55 procent... Geen karaktergroei en interessante stukjes. Hij probeert heel erg haar aandacht te krijgen... Alsof hij een weddenschap heeft afgelegd? Idk ik vertrouw hem niet.heb er geen zin meer in. Best globaal gelezen eigenlijk
3.5 stars I really enjoyed this! It was fun to see the grumpy sunshine trope in reverse and as the story progressed I really liked both Florence and Nate. I wasn’t too sure about Florence’s character at first but she definitely grew on me as the story progressed.
Ah Nate is my new hero! Celine knows how to write the most beautiful characters flaws and all! And Florence is just the little shy introvert we all carry inside!
