This book introduced me to a world of shifters in Alaska. Jax is a Kodiak bear shifter and also sheriff. Autumn is a vet from Seattle. She and her fiancé are hiking the area for Autumn's birthday celebration. Her now ex-fiance leaves her in the middle of nowhere after Autumn tells him she doesn't believe they should be together. Autumn's always had doubts about their relationship, but this trip was the last straw. Jax gets called to go look for her after she doesn't return to base camp. He finds her and is shocked to realize she's his fated mate. A snow storm strands them in his home, where he does all sorts of hot and dirty things to his mate. I loved Jax! The spanking in the woods, and the way he just loved on his woman. He's possessive and knows in his soul that she belongs with him.

3.5 stars!
Book two, we get the bear shifting broody beast of a man who is sent to rescue a lone female hiker when her estranged fiancé leaves her alone in the wilderness after breaking up.
It’s Jax recognizes Autumn as his fated mate. A feisty, independent veterinarian.

Jax has had a friends with benefit relationships with his co-worker (a lynx shifter) but they decided to keep as just friends when they knew they both had fated mates out in the world somewhere.

When Autumn was finally introduced to everyone in Mystic River, Kyra the coworker and Autumn becomes friends and joke they know how Jax is in bed and his dominance… all on the span of a few days so it was weird for me.

But I can’t wait for Colby’s story more. He’s Kyras brother and seems to be some mob boss … or something…. I’m excited for his story! Looks like Kyra and her mate, the local baker have a story and it’s next!

FIND SOLACE IN HIS EMBRACE

The story is part of the new Mystic River Shifters. It will have a great cast of characters, including humans and shifters. The two main characters will be Dr. Autumn Bradley, a veterinarian from Seattle, and Sheriff Jackson ‘Jax’ Miller of the town of Mystic River on Kodiak Island, Alaska.

The story’s plot will have Autumn and her fiancé, Porter Martin, III, on Kodiak Island to celebrate Autumn’s birthday. They will have a falling out, and she realizes that he isn’t the man for her. She will give him back his ring and take off on one of the trails, and Porter will leave the island. It isn’t until he is contacted by the rangers from the National Forest Service that they realize he has abandoned Autumn and she is missing. They will contact Jax, one of the best trackers, to find her—especially with a storm system approaching.

Kodiak Island, Alaska is home to all kinds of shifters, one of which is Jax, a Kodiak bear; his deputy, Kyra, is a lynx; and his friend, Ash, a park ranger, a wolf shifter. Ash will contact Jax to search for Autumn.

“I’d best start looking for our little runaway.”

The story has mystery, suspense, danger, and a lone Kodiak bear realizing this little human is his fated mate. He will protect her from a dangerous predatory, spank her for her behavior, gets her to his cave, and keep her safe.

Jax: I told you to stay put on the boat. That’s the last time you disobey me without any consequences. I meant what I said; if you’d gone into the water, I’m not sure you would have survived. Got it?
Autumn: I understand English, Sheriff. But last time I checked, you had no authority over me. None.
Jax: I wouldn’t bet on that. That snowstorm is going to be nasty. They are predicting whiteout conditions for the next couple of days. That means you’re stuck with me in my cave.
Autumn: I won’t be any trouble.
Jax: You couldn’t be more wrong about that if you tried. You’re all kinds of trouble, Doc. Fortunately for you, I like trouble. In fact, you’re the kind of trouble I’ve been looking for.

The second book in The Mystic River series brings Jax and Autumn's story. The author brings a steamy story filled with tons of action and emotions. The chemistry between them is instant and hot and I loved their banter. There is a bit of mystery with several of the secondary characters which has me looking forward to the next book. It's well written, moves quickly and smoothly and I enjoyed reading.

Savage Dreams…

Book 2 in the Mystic River shifter series and wow I loved it…
Jax a bear shifter and local sheriff of Mystic River (a town full of different shifters) is called on to find a missing hiker in the wilds of Kodiak but who he encounters is his fated mate and she’s human…but with the inclement weather closing in his protective nature kicks in..
Autumn has just broken up with her fiancé while on a hike for her birthday but she continues on before realising the change in weather she shelters down but the next morning she encounters Jax in all his glory…before finding herself over his knee and into his cave…
I quite enjoyed this insta-love story and with the interaction with the other characters definatly kept the suspense thrilling but although Kyra’s story would be an interesting one I would look forward too.

Autumn knew she had yet to feel the passion with her soul mate so when she met Jax, there was such a connection there. She was his fated mate and he would do anything to protect her. Danger, suspense and plenty of action! So good.

Savage Mate
By. Delta James.

Well I have to admit the author Ms James always amazes me when
It comes to her style of writing, she is extremely diverse with her imagination and content, giving us books that can be completely different from each other.
Jax is a bear shifter that loves where he lives his job and those he protects and cares for, his life is complete and very satisfying, and is quite happy being a bachelor and looks to be staying that way for some time yet.
Autumn decided she wants to spend time in the wilds of Alaska and is well equipped with understanding what is needed to be safe, but after a change in who she is travelling with she decided, strike out by herself and promptly gets herself in a rather dangerous situation.
A storyline with plenty of fascinating characters who we meet at different times during The Mystic Creek shifter series and who are still popping up throughout the individual books but it looks like Autumn is going to meet the town folk in ways she never expected.
emotional, tantilizing and male dominated the strong willed Autumn will speak her mind and is capable of standing up for herself in most situations, even though Jax knows she is his special someone he is determined to show her how much she means to him in every way possible.which includes introducing her to his own style of loving and caring for someone he loves.
Full of ongoing mystery and drama with various attempts taken to try and either harm or place blame on people, in the small town. Can the two confident determined couple allow themselves to open up to each other with their secrets and fears, will they develop this amazing relationship, after realising the depth of their feelings for one another Jax and Autumn ensure they are both on the same page with their desires and wishes will Jax be able to explain about his secret.
Very well put together with enough action and adventure in the wilds of Alaska and their heated passionate response to each other is definitely steamy, you cannot help but chuckle at some of Jax’s tongue in cheek comments that has Autumn stunned and laughing..
Not a long read, but certainly one that keeps you guessing if paranormal romance is a genre you like them this adventure is one you will not want to miss.

This was a paranormal shifter romance.

I love this series. It takes place in Alaska centering around the different shifters living there. The men are dominant and the women are strong submissives.

Autumn Bradley is a veterinarian. She started dating one of her client's sons and winds up engaged to him after he surprise proposes to get at his birthday party. For her birthday they travel to Kodiak Island for an outdoors weekend. While there she breaks off their engagement and he goes back to Seattle leaving her alone in the woods.

Jackson Jax Miller is a grizzly bear shifter, sheriff of Mystic River and the alpha of his clan. He doesn't date much but did have a friends with benefits relationship with Kyra a lynx shifter. Kyra is his second in command at the police station and the sister of his former friend Colby.

They meet when Jax is asked to find Autumn who is lost on the hiking trails with a snow storm due. Jax fights off a polar bear who was up to no good and watched over Autumn until daybreak. Autumn finds the river and discovers an unclothed Jax. She gives him story Dr so he spanks her. They get to his home before the snow storm hits and are stuck there when part of the mountain collapses and blocks the entrance to his cave home. Jax realised Autumn was his fated mate and convinced her to agree to try submission. They fall in love and she plans to move to Mystic River. They go into town and she along with Kyra find the perfect property for her vet clinic except it is owned by Colby. They visit Colby to try to buy the property but he acts like a jerk so they leave. Jax and Autumn are in his SUV when a black snowplow forces them off the road and down an embankment. There is a firefight where Kyra is seriously injured, she shifts into her lynx form and her mate asks Autumn to save her. Jax has to explain about shifters after the surgery. They eventually talk out her concerns and agree to get married/bonded.

Yipee! This is Jax's story. You may remember that he is the sheriff of Mystic River and a Kodiak bear shifter. He meets his human mate when he has to track her through a blizzard.

Dr. Autumn Bradley is a veterinarian and has a thriving practice in Seattle, Washington. She meets Porter Martin III when he brings his mother's dog into the clinic hoping to board it there while his jet-setting mother is out of town. Autumn finds herself impressed with Porter. Not long afterwards, he asks her out and they start seeing each other. Surprising her at a swanky party with a marriage proposal, leaves Autumn feeling awkward. She accepts, but more from an unwillingness to embarrass Porter and his mother than from an actual desire to marry him. Time shows that they really have very little in common. She loves things like hiking, camping, and kayaking and he - doesn't. When he takes a trip to Kodiak Island with her and suddenly gets a call to return to Seattle while they are on a hike, she tells him she staying and returns his ring. Unfortunately, she forgets to retrieve things like the sat phone and her compass from his backpack. Now, she finds herself lost with a storm coming and no shelter nearby. It is a good thing she at least has an idea of how to build herself a passable shelter and knows how to keep herself reasonably warm, it is going to be a long night.

Jax is pretty upset that he is expected to go out in a snowstorm to find a spoiled woman who wasn't even smart enough to check the weather report and carry a phone with her. He can't believe it when he realizes that she is his mate. Now, he just had to convince her to stay with him - forever.

Great story. I wonder whose is next - Kyra's or Colby's? I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

Part of the Mystic River Shifters series each book can be read as a standalone with a shifter who finds that one that sooths his animal. It’s about time Jax sexy as all get out sheriff of Mystic River, a Kodiak bear and has wanted his mate for a while but never finding her until he is sent out to find her in a blizzard. Autumn intelligent loves animals so much she became a veterinarian, loves hiking everything to do with nature really and when a man comes in seeking a place to board her dog while she travels. Porter her son meets Autumn asks her out and not long asks her to marry him even with all the warning signs she still say yes to keep from embarrassing him but her heart says no because they are two totally different people but they try when he plans a trip to Kodiak Island together but the moment he gets a call from work while in the middle of a hike deciding to leave she stays giving him his engagement ring back upset he takes all their things including the sat phone leaving her stranded alone on a hiking path with a storm fast approaching. But she is out doing what she loves so she builds herself shelter, everything she knows to keep warm until help arrives. Jax is pissed yep he can handle the cold, the storm but he can’t deal with spoiled women who don’t take the proper equipment especially with a storm approaching but he also can’t have her death on him never realizing the moment he smells he knows she is his mate but convincing her to stay with him because he isn’t going to let her go, will she understand what he is, will she accept all of him, and can they find their own happiness?.

Delta James always delivers an entertaining and enjoyable read, and this one doesn’t disappoint. The only reason I didn’t rate this a 5-star read was I would have like more of the story between Autumn and Jax. The story moves at a blistering fast pace from when they first meet until the end. I think the book covers maybe two weeks, if that.

My personal opinion is the first few chapters which take place prior to Autumn and Jax meeting weren’t really needed or helpful. Jax and Autumn have an immediate connection and their forced isolation during the blizzard definitely gets their relationship going. They get along well and she’s feisty and able to keep the Grumpy dominant bear on his toes. I loved her personality and independent attitude that stops just short of being too much. She was able to push Jax’s buttons to get him growling, but then she was willing to let him work through his grumpiness with some spice and steam.

The side characters in town and their meddling add humor to the storyline. There is so much that takes place in such a short time it’s almost hard to believe all of it takes place in what I think was about two weeks.

It was a little weird for me that Jax’s ex-lover becomes Autumn’s BFF from the moment they meet and their is zero friction or issue between them. I liked the fast friendship the two characters developed, but could have done without the previous FWB relationship Kyra had with Jax. Her just being his best friend would have need sufficient for me.

This could be read as a standalone; however, I think reading the prior book in the series would give a better context to the story, especially since it moves at a rapid pace.

This is the second book in Delta James' newest shifter romance series situated around Mystic River in Alaska and believe me it left me definitely wanting more from this hot bed of shifter characters.

This instalment readers get the pleasure of meeting town sheriff Jackson Miller (Jax), a Kodiak bear shifter and his fated mate Autumn Bradley, a Seattle based Veterinary Doctor. Knowing about how wild Alaska can be in terms of its unstable weather conditions leads the readers to see this is going to be one wild ride of playing hero against time and reasons why getting the fated mate naked as quickly as possible. The two lead characters of Jax and Autumn are fantastic but what really makes it such an entertaining read is that there are so many other fantastic characters to truly give the plot such depth. Then of course there is this underlying bigger mystery that drags them altogether simply making it hard to put down. Of course those "heated" romantic moments are simply too divine, which makes the reader just want to slow down to thoroughly get exhausted in them, their self.
Personally Alaska seems such a world away from life in the sub tropics, so it provides such a mysterious unknown factor of living in a cold climate and how local communities thrive and survive. Besides it always seems romance stories are based around Sandy beaches and warm weather so for me this was a really nice change.

Anyway, you'll have to excuse me because I'm dying to learn how the next character in this township is going to finally meet their fated mate but also the whole mystery behind the friendship between Jax, Ash and Colby and how things will balance out.

This is book two in the Mystic River series with Autumn and Jax. The first part when Autumn was in Seattle was slow moving and quite unbelievable a veterinarian would date "he who is allergic to dogs." Once the story moved to Alaska, it started moving quickly. Jax and Autumn definitely had chemistry and the reader felt they belonged together. Kira & Autumn quickly became besties which'd meant the guys needed to watch out. Those two are tough and don't let the guys get away with anything. The continual "Cody having changed" is getting old. A blind person could see something was up with that so hopefully that's resolved in the next book quickly and he can be welcomed back. Considering his actions at the end, the guys need to wake up and realize what's going on.

The story between Jax and Autumn was as Autumn said, the pieces of the puzzle shifted and fell into place. The chemistry is there, and it moved quickly. It seemed a bit redundant having read her other series, that the guys were making it a huge scary deal about a human being a fated mate. Been there, done that, the trope is old and needs buried. Other than that, the story flowed until Autumn found out the truth. IMO she should have made him grovel so much more. There seemed to be a lot of secondary stories that popped up at the end demanding to be resolved or have their moment in the sun and it got convoluted which is the reason it didn't get a five-star rating. The author in these two latest series does seem to be having endings that just stop rather than in her earlier series that gives the happy ending for the couple but hints at the continuation with the "big baddie".

I loved this book so much, give me a book that has spice,is well written ,is interesting and has shifter and you got my attention. The thing about attention though,it has to be maintained. This book went all out and beyond,I kid you not ,I literally couldn't put it down till I finished it.And as always, I started it when I should be asleep and by the time I looked up,it was like six in the morning.

With the first few chapters,we are introduced to a minor character, Lydia Martin ( instantly reminded me of Lydia from teen wolf as they share a name) and knew of the author is a teen wolf fan then I would love the book.

I loved the different characters within the book ,the law enforcement, the criminal, the sassy, the grumpy, the sunshine and let's not forget the nosy small town vibe.Jax literally didn't even need to leave his office but he got the information whether he wanted it or not😂.

I love that there was spice in the book but it wasn't predominantly the main area of focus .It is a shifter romance and it focused on that while not boring readers to death but was intriguing enough.I will say that it was really fast paced without feeling rushed ,which shows the authors skill level.

There are a few cliffhangers left in the book though;

1. Who / what attacked Jax and Autumn on their way home?

2. What happened to Colby while they served and is he changed forever?

I enjoyed the book and can't wait for the next one in the series.

I love Jax, big strong , stubborn, sexy Alpha Kodiak bear, sheriff of Mystic River Alaska. He’s deputy Kyra is a fantastic friend, funny, intelligent and beautiful, sister to Colby Alpha lynx shifter. And most importantly there’s Autumn, human, beautiful and gorgeous veterinarian, she’s come to Alaska for her birthday with her fiancé Porter Martin to hike, camping and enjoying the beauty of nature. I truly can’t stand Porter, he’s demanding, selfish, arrogant and hates being outside a city, 😡poor baby. He has the bloody nerve to demand they return to Seattle but Autumn refuses 🎉 returns his ring and storms off down the trail. That inconsiderate, selfish man leaves Autumn without the compass, sat phone and tent that she needed for survival, it was in his pack and he didn’t report to the authorities that he was leaving without Autumn. Jax is called in to find Autumn before the storm ⛈️ arrives. My heart was pounding as Autumn realised she was lost and a storm was approaching. I love how calm and resilient she is and how well she’s handling all the stress and danger. I like how Jax sees how well she’s managed to handle everything, he is very determined to get them to a safe shelter before the approaching blizzard hits. The race to shelter was very difficult, exciting and challenging, but they were able to reach Jax cave. They face more challenges, danger, fear but most importantly they find their way to love 💗 and Happy ever after. A amazing spellbinding experience, I can’t wait for more.

Before I go on to give my impression of the way Jax met Autumn, I would like to say that I really liked this story and I do recommend it if you like your shifter stories spicy and romantic, with some adventure and danger thrown in for good measure.

The word Neanderthal was used several times to describe Jax. I suppose that’s why the title of the book is “Savage Mate”. I liked the Neanderthal in him. My only complaint with this story is the way Jax and Autumn met. I was a bit taken aback by the Autumn/Jax “meet-cute”. There was nothing cute about a sheriff assaulting a complete stranger he was supposed to be rescuing. I really was not able to wrap my mind around that first encounter. The author explained it away by stating that Jax recognized Autumn as his mate the minute he saw her. Autumn’s reaction to the assault was to fall in line. I decided to chock that scene to the whole shifter fated mate thing and moved on with a story I really did like a lot.

Once you get passed that scene, the story was really good. Just like the first story in the series, it was spicy and romantic. It also had some really fun outdoor adventures and dangerous people Jax and Autumn had to deal with.

I also really liked the townspeople of Mystic River. The author has created a world in Kodiak, Alaska I find fascinating and wish I could go visit (and I’m not even the outdoorsy type).

Mystic River Shifters series proceeds nicely with Savage Mate.

Sheriff Jackson ‘Jax’ Miller was content with his life on Kodiak Island. His place in the community was set, he was respected & lived life on his own terms. He’d lived in the outside world; he chose to return to Mystic River.

Dr Autumn Bradley, a committed & highly skilled veterinarian in Seattle, was proud of the practice she had built. She had drifted into an engagement with an eligible bachelor who didn’t truly appreciate her.

How Jax & Autumn meet & bond is our story. Autumn has no clue as to the existence of shifters; Jax wants her to be more fully involved before he reveals this unknown world. He’s strong, dominant in a way that Autumn has never dealt with in a man. Can she make the adjustment? She’s independent, strong & capable in her own right. Will love be enough?

We’re coming to know the folks of Mystic River. Their sense of community, their commitment to their town, their way of life. Something dark, evil, is edging into their town. We just have some hints here, with no reveal as to the source. Delta James gives us another great story and we want the next chapter. This is a stand-alone, with overlapping characters & story arc. Join Ms James for the journey, you’ll be glad you did!

I enjoyed the steady descriptive build-up that stirred my imagination, which only Ms. James can accomplish. Her characters were well-developed and realistic despite their paranormal abilities. There was danger, intrigue, heat, and heart. The searing connection between Jax and Autum was pure magic. Their chemistry was palpable, and each encounter drew them closer together.

Jaxson was a Bear shifter and the sheriff of Mystic River. He sets out to find a hiker abandoned by her ex fiancê with a storm approaching. He recognizes that Autum is is fated mate, but she is also human. Their relationship is intense as he spends every moment worshipping her body, but will she accept him as a shifter?

Breaking her engagement was the intelligent thing to do. Getting lost with a storm coming is not so bright. Being rescued by Jax tickled my fancy. Was it because he spanked and then pleasured her moments after finding her? Was it that she was drooling at the sight of his naked body, or was it that he was the missing part of the puzzle that was missing in her life? Autum had no trouble accepting that Jax was a shifter. She was too accepting for my tastes.

This book ticked all of the right boxes in a good shifter story, but I would have liked more drama, more shifting, and more discipline scenes. Overall an entertaining story.

I think, that this book title is a bit misleading. I am sorry, but labeling Jackson as grumpy sifter is not accurate in my opinion. There is no double that he is loner and probably misunderstood but I did not think he was grumpy. He is loyal and caring. Again - not grumpy. Just had to put that out there. This was an enjoyable story to read. You can be with someone and stay with someone even though you have doubts. That is where Autumn was at in her life. It took an adventure into the wilds of Alaska for her to see the light. And when she finally split from her fiance not only did she find herself without a fiance, she also found herself alone in the wilderness. But she was no damsel in distress and believed she could rescue herself. But before she could do that Jackson, appeared. Even though Autumn did not believe she needed to be rescued, she came up against Jackson who decided she did. But as frustrated each are with each other, it was quickly apparent that they were destined to be together. Autumn quickly realizes that her future will be in Mystic River. Now Jackson just needs to tell her who/what he is.
A great read. But I didn't expect anything else.

Jackson (Jax) Miller returned home to Mystic River after years as a SEAL and became the sheriff. Autumn Bradley is from Seattle but is in Alaska with her fiance celebrating her birthday weekend. While on a hike, he decides it's too much and leaves. Autumn continues on her hike not realizing until she's caught in a snowstorm that he has some essential equipment she could really use. The rangers ask Jax to search for Autumn which he's none too happy about until he learns she's his fated mate. Can they get off the mountain in time or will the blizzard catch up with them?

This is the second book in the series and I really enjoyed it. It was well-written with wonderful characters and a well-devised plot. Jax and Autumn were well matched as a couple and their interactions were great. There's intrigue and suspense along with the romance which is most definitely spicy. I was captivated by the story from the beginning and read it in one sitting. I was left wanting a little more detail at the end about a couple things which is why I'm giving the book 4 stars, still I highly recommend both it and the series. I'm looking forward to the next book. I did receive a copy of this book from BookSirens and this is my honest, unbiased review.

I liked Autumn and Jax together. Their connection was intense but I suppose that is the way of fated mates. Even knowing the reasons why Autumn got involved with Porter, it still had me wondering what she wanted with him.

I admit that I was a bit sad about this book. I wanted more shifter interaction and reactions between Autumn and Jax. They were fated mates. Again, I just wanted more. I am really going to have to learn how to contain that greedy thing I have going on, lol. I liked the Mystic River community and how accepting they were with Autumn. I also really liked the cave concept.

I felt like I had read some of this book before. It wasn't the full book, maybe a novella or part of an anthology. I have that frustrating sense of deja'vu going on.

I was very interested in learning Scott and Kyra's story as well as what has been going on with Colby. We were given a hint when everyone was in Doc's office.

I get the sense that there is a bigger story going on here. It might only be my imagination. For me, there were so many threads left dangling. I could see so many possibilities that could be tied together.

This was a good romantic, steamy read with just a hint of mystery lurking out there in the ethers. I guess I will just have to wait and see if anything comes to fruition. No worries, this was not a cliffhanger. This was only more of my sense of unfinished business.

I was totally enthralled by this highly entertaining bear shifter romance. It is the second book in the “Mystic Rivers Shifters” series but can easily stand on its own but there is an underlying storyline that continues throughout the series. The plot is well-written and has extremely good world building so the reader is not just thrown into the plot. The characters are well-developed and are realistic portrayed with individual personalities.
There is: a sheriff & tracker who happens to be a alpha male Kodiak grizzle bear shifter (Jackson Miller aka Jax) sets out to look for a stranded hiker (a human female veterinarian, Autumn Bradley) and discovers that she is his fated mate, Autumn’s rather whiny ex-fiancé (Porter Martin III), various kinds of shifters, humans, friendship, fated mates, adverse weather conditions, action, adventure, disagreements, drama, intrigue, suspense, mystery, danger, confrontations/conflict, attractions, steamy scenes and a wonderful happy conclusion. To be quite honest this is a very talented author that writes exceptionally good books and I would really recommend this shifter romance (and the series).

Jax and Autumn - another strong PNR from Delta James

Book 2 in the Mystic River series does not disappoint. It is an enjoyable and well paced read.

Autumn is left in the wilds of Alaska, by a lame now-ex fiance, just as a winter storm arrives. Rescued by Jax, she is the fated mate of his dreams. But will the lovely Veterinarian be willing to uproot her life and practice in Seattle to build a life in Mystic River?

I am pleasantly surprised to find book 2 just as well balanced in its story:spice ratio as book 1 turned out to be. The shifter romance might be the draw, and the D/s might be the spice, but the story is always the most important part for me. And I'm truly enjoying this series and where it's taking us. Ash and Nicole are settling down, even with more ahead of them in terms of the pack dynamics. Jax and Autumn are together and adding strength to the community at-large. And Kyra and Scott are in the wings while we hope for better days for Colby. We know something is lurking in the background, but the pacing is so good.

Looking forward to book 3 now.

Jax is a Kodiak bear shifter in Mystic River, Kodiak Island in Alaska. Kyra, who is a lynx shifter and younger sister of Colby Reynolds who was once like a brother to Jax (Jackson Miller), is his deputy. Colby gets physical with Jax because he feels that his lil sis has been thrown by the wayside by his former friend. Colby is Alpha of the lynx shifters on the island and since they all came home from the navy, has been different and a gangster wannabe. Autumn is a veterinarian who ends up leaving her fiancée in the wilderness because they just don’t suit each other and a storm comes in. As the jerk leaves, he tells that she ‘wandered off’. Puh-lease. What an idiot. Jax finds and saves her and realizes that they are fated mates. Now he just needs to convince her, etc. since she is a human and it would be better if she becomes a bear. We get to meet Jax’s buddy, Asher and his mate. We also get to know some of the background of other groups of shifters on the island. This world is just fascinating and I’m addicted.

Jax was the sheriff of Mystic River, a Kodiak bear shifter. He grew up with Asher, the wolf shifter and Colby the lynx shifter, joining the Navy until an event made them leave service, with Asher becoming head Forest Ranger and Colby now a gangster involved in smuggling, moonshine and gambling...Autumn was a veterinarian who had a large clientele in Seattle where she met the son of client, became engaged even though the two had little in common, with Autumn being outdoorsy and Porter needing arm candy for his business meetings, trips and parties...they fought and broke up while on hiking trip that Autumn insisted on, with Porter leaving Alaska to return to Seattle...not even notifying anyone that Autumn still out there as he had compass, GPS and Satellite phone in his gear...Asher called Jax for tracking as weather system coming in and tracks lost...but on scenting Autumn, Jax knew she was his fated mate...but could a human veterinarian from Seattle love a solitary bear such as Jax??? Jackson "Jax" Miller is the sheriff on Kodiak Island and a bear shifter. Dr. Autumn Bradley is a veterinarian in Seattle who visits Kodiak with her fiance and gets into a fight with him when he tries to cut their trip short. Seeing the writing on the wall she breaks the engagement and walks off into with wilderness. Unbeknownst to her a storm is coming. When Jax is sent to look for her, he realizes she is his fated mate. With the storm approaching, Jax gets them back to his cave before the storm worsen. While trip by the storm, Jax and Autumn relationship intensifies, but Jax is keeping his shifter side a secret. Hoping to get Autumn addicted to him through sex, runs of time to reveal the existence of shifter when they are attacked by someone disguising themselves as Colby. There was some intriguing hints that Colby is not what he wants others to think. Overall, this was a very fast and engaging read. I cannot wait for Krya and Scott's book. And Colby's is going to be epic.

another terrific book in this series I liked jax and autumn's story. It's pretty fast paced with not a lot of conflict and things progress a little to quickly for me. There could have been just a bit more resistance between them when they first met instead of instanta feelings for me but exciting stuff does happen later in the book. I think Autumn should have had a bit more gumption too. She seemed to just go along with her old boyfriend without really caring that she didn't really love him and being a smart lady should have clued in faster. Then with Jax its like instant jump into something new and not really even stand up to his dominance at all. seemed a little too easy really. wouldn't happen that way in real life because independent veterinarian isn't gonna just fall in line that easy. so should have been more push back from autumn's character in the beginning. I love the little town of Mystic River and the ppl in it. The details are well done for ppl and places.

I loved the story. The author has a way of pulling you in and keeping you at the edge of your seat.

I also love that even though the H, Jax the sheriff of Mystic River, is dominant, he makes sure Autumn is well taken care of, in more than one way.

They have their conflicts and Jax has to figure out how is he going to tell her the biggest secret in the world without losing Autumn. ♦ Destiny has a way of providing that for him.

Action from the very first page. What he does once he finds her and knows she is his fated mate was interesting. It may trigger some or they may not appreciate the act of discipline.

Steam to the romance. HEA for the couple.

I also like the time the author spent giving us background of the personality , especially with Autumn. I could sense her frustrations and emotions with her life before going to Alaska.

I think Kyra and Autumn's friendship will lead to many adventures.
