Two things I'm very fond of: a well written romance and the south of France. Put them together, they make a lovely reason to love this book. Definitely one I would read again in another year or two.
Angelina ‘s career is fulfilling, she’s been a truck driver for years and likes the fact that the male drivers have accepted her ability to handle the vehicle. One day, she returns her vehicle and her boss lays her off—the boss’s son spoke against her and he’s a favorite. Tired and offended, Angelina returns home to cozy herself and gets news from her Mom to mandatorily attend the good news dinner that night. As the family is gathered for dinner, her sister Marcie announces she is having a baby… and she can’t go to France as planned. The family agrees that the chaperoning (their teen cousin) would be great, this time in her life.
Angelina and her cousin Sarah stay in Provence with the Belliveau family and experience some elegance and mishaps in their exposures. They have moments of clumsiness, catty opposition, and fancy gatherings.
I liked Sarah’s lighthearted nature and even her unpleasantness. She fawns over a prospective love interest, but when things change— it’s over. She isn’t truly over dramatic. Angelina tries to handle Sarah with a cooler older cousin demeanor, but coincides in losing some control. There are some serious emotional tones and topics during their visit.
When Angelina is fired form her six-year job as a big truck driver when the owner's son sexually-harasses her and then lies to get her dismissed, she is at a loss. However, she realizes she has time to be a chaperone to her younger cousin, who is invited to spend a couple of weeks at a chateau in southern France. Coming from central Canada, it is quite the cultural experience, especially when her immature cousin fancies the older charming owner. In this scenario, Angelina learns the culture and to remember her high-school French from way back. As time passes, she too is attracted to the owner, likes his mother and dreads returning to her no-job life in Canada. But caught up in a mystery and a life-saving situation, she is able to break through the barriers. Sweet and clean with much travel description in this recommended romance for a good bedtime read.
I enjoyed reading this clean romance about two women who are invited to France by a wealthy wine and olive oil producer and his mother. The romance between Angelina and Jullien did develop slowly, but both parties were willing for the relationship to move forward.
I liked the little mystery included about the fatal crash that killed Jullien's father and fiance. I had fun figuring that one out.
This was a fun escapist read that combined a good story with Provence, France and a family vineyard. When Angelina agrees to chaperone her young niece who has met a Frenchman in a Canada (where they live) little does she realize how her life will change. The holiday turns Into much more when she grows to love the family she is staying with and an enigmatic son.
Loved this fun, fresh take on the traditional romantic heroine, and the wonderful descriptions of Provence left me wanting to book an immediate flight. Well crafted, really enjoyable read.
A well written love story that draws you in with each page you read. The description of the chatuea made me feel like I was there visiting. I would definitely read this book again.
