“Character training, discipline guidance, and habit formation are processes in your child’s development that cause you serious concern. You want your child to develop habits and traits of character that are admirable and worthwhile—habits and traits that will ensure happiness and success in life.”
These are words of introduction from the inaugural 1934 Parent Guide Supplement to Childcraft, a 15-volume annual series launched as a home instructional and educational resource for parents. Childcraft remained a mainstay within American households over 7 decades, sold door-to-door, direct to parents.
Childcraft was succeeded by Discovery and Discovery Science. Discovery and Discovery Science are multivolume print and digital reference resources for elementary readers.
The iconic Childcraft brand remains in the public domain as an Annual Update to owners of an original Childcraft set and is displayed each year at the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholder’s meeting.
OK...showing my age here....I read an earlier version than 1974 and it's not even listed. This book was my absolute favorite as a child and I read it nearly every single day around ages seven and eight. No doubt, this was the beginnings of my "wanderlust" tendencies.
I think I'm the first east African to read this marvellous book in 1996,97 at a tender age. It really broaden and widen my mind and the perspective about world, people, nature, history, culture and beliefs. My vote of thanks goes to the library of testimony school eldoret Kenya The writer, publisher and the entire team that took their time effort and research just to enlighten us on more about the world. Note:if the writer is still alive or any of the team that composed this book(places to know)kindly contact me here.
A very informative read with plenty of amazing photography! I borrowed this book from my friend in the 6th grade and (accidentally, i swear) forgot to return it. She got an extensive collection of encyclopaedias which I LOVED when I was a kid. God knows where she got them from. She used to store the books under the stairs until it overflowed to the living room and once in a while when I came over I picked one up and borrowed it from her.
always love geography. always love fabulous places. always love encyclopedy. so I love childcraft much. I got those childcraft books from my mum. she got the old copies from her office (when she attended trainings that held by the office). i read the bahasa version of the book and this is the best childcraft edition i've read.
