Bounty hunting is rewarding, but nobody ever said it was easy.

When your partner is a powerful dark witch with anger issues, it can get downright terrifying.

Good thing Matt Bordelon is up for a challenge because the weather isn’t the only thing heating up in the Big Easy.

A cabal of dark witches and wizards will do anything to control magic. A powerful, idealistic, and extremely misguided politico can only make things worse.

As if that wasn’t enough, something evil is snatching people from the New Orleans area. The cops are baffled, and the body count is rising fast. Out of ideas, they call Matt.

The Big Easy Bounty Hunter and his partner-in-training jump on the case, but the next victim’s deadly countdown timer is ticking.

Nothing is ever simple when you mix dark magic and a deep desire for vengeance.

Matt’s no stranger to the ways of dark magic, but circumstances involving the case and his partner’s hot-headedness are testing his limits.

Can he rescue the victims and bring Natalia back before she succumbs to the sweet temptation of the darkness inside?

Or will the darkness take her before he can save her?

Big Easy Trouble
By Charles Tillman
This has the witch and wizard now working with a pixie. Lots of action as they deal with werewolves and elves, human trafficking, and a deadly street drug. Great fun fantasy.

Natalia and Matt are back and the adventures continue. The story is fast paced. You get insight into the motives of the bad guys and follow the good guys as they try to stop the evil machinations of the villains. Marie is simply the best!! Her confrontation with Winston and Natalia’s mom demonstrates her power and how scary she truly can be!!

Natalia’s new admirer in the form of the pixie they rescued from a bounty was hilarious and looking forward to more books with him in it. Overall this was a solid 4.5

Things are really heating up in 'Nawleans' - and it's not just the weather!

Matt and Nicki are doing everything in their power to frustrate the plans of the Dark Council, while also doing their jobs as Bounty Hunters, and trying their best to aid the local MAS Unit, headed by Matt's Uncle Julien.

The trouble is, there are also young men and women suddenly disappearing off the streets of New Orleans, and the spate of people going crazy, and hurting those around them, seems to be getting worse.

Matt and Nicki are determined to get to the bottom of it all, though.

So, when a foul mouthed Pixie, called Randy (I admit I laughed out loud at the name - the LMBPN authors certainly know how to stretch out a joke!), joined them, after Nicki helped him, things started to look better for their investigations.

But, when Werewolves and a Wizard are implicated in the kidnapping of two young student girls, Matt and Nicki knew it would be a race against time, to find and rescue them!

Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Although the subject matter can get dark fairly quickly, there's also a lot of humour used to counter this.

I'm also really loving the complex relationships growing between all of those who are determined to keep darkness from overpowering the Mundane humans, who are still barely aware of all the things that magic makes possible.

I also love that, as Matt and Nicki's story progresses, we readers are learning more of the changes being made, both to the Laws on Earth, that govern the Magicals coming through the Portals that keep appearing from Oriceran, and how the Mundanes are, very slowly, adjusting to them being around.

As I'm eager to find out what will happen next - there really are quite a few storylines going on at the same time - I'm going off to start reading Book Three of this new series: 'Bigger Guns, More Trouble'.

So, once I've done that, as usual, I'll catch you on the flip side, and let you know what I thought about this next part of the story!

And THIS one just blew me away!!!

Which is kind of like what happens to most of the bad guys in this “episode,” although that’s really totally unrelated. ***chuckles at his own humor***

As I’ve said in reviews of his other books, Tillman’s writing often leaves me in awe. He has a facility with words of which I’m insanely jealous. Now, I will admit, that this book has a bit less “awe,” than one might expect from a description like that. However, what we get in return is whole LOT more “WOW!”

He is shaping Oriceran canon in some very unexpected ways, elaborating on histories at which we could have previously only guessed. He also manages some rather nice, if indirect social commentary.

I was especially impressed with the “cavalier” discrimination that is rather evident in this book. It’s dropped in almost as fait accompli, and yet he also manages to convey total disapproval and an utter disdain for those attitudes. It’s really quite nicely done.

The comic relief in the form of a pixie was also a nice surprise. It reminded me of one of the better Bob Hope movies where the comic and the the sublime get folded into a single character with a dry delivery.

All in all I would give this one a solid 7 out of 5 stars. (See what I did there?) It isn’t necessary to read the first book before this one, in fact I need to go back and re-read it since I’ve forgotten a bit, apparently. So don’t worry, just pick this up and I promise you’ll ENJOY!

Dark witches

Matt is teaching Natalia how to be a bounty hunter and also keeping her safe from her dark witch family. While on a job they get involved with a pixie and get mixed up with werewolves and a slavery ring. I really like the characters in this series and am looking forward to more of their adventures.

Awesome series, lots of excitement and very entertaining!!!

Congratulations to Charles Tillman, Martha Carr and Michael Anderle for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such interesting and exciting authors who not only write intelligently but also provide top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories.

More New Orleans magic

I like the main characters and the southern charm in front of the scarily powerful relatives. It you like Anderle's universe of magic and bounty hunters, this is a nice easy read.
