When Azura's heart is broken, her indifference facade is cracked and reveals a vengance no one suspected.

Azura is cool, dispassionate and detached. Some might even call her arrogant and wayward. She does as she pleases, when she pleases and how she pleases. Right now, it pleases her to move from Mother’s loving warmth and find her own path in the world. A chance encounter has some very unexpected consequences, and leads Azura to ask questions she’d never before thought to ask. The answer doesn’t break her heart, it ices over and shatters…

Father’s favourite due to their shared affinity, he attempts to temper his daughter’s vengeful heart but only succeeds in driving her determination for vengeance. When her journey takes her to the lands of man, she must trust Fabius Dann and his son Lennard to guide her in this strange, hostile world.

❄️❄️Dragons, Deception, and Devastating Family Secrets: Book Two Soars Higher🐉🐉

👑🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👑

Abigail Andersonhas crafted something extraordinary with "A Father's Shame: The DragonChylde Trials Book Two". This isn't just a sequel, it's an evolution that transforms everything we thought we knew about Azura's world 🐉💔.

The emotional complexity here is staggering. Anderson takes Azura from her protected dragon upbringing and thrusts her into a trial that becomes so much more than proving her strength. It becomes an excavation of buried sins, family lies, and the kind of truths that shatter worldviews. The way she handles Azura's growing awareness of her dark heritage is both heartbreaking and empowering.

What made this book unforgettable:
The vengeful spirit haunting Azura's journey adds this incredible psychological horror element that I wasn't expecting. It's not just about supernatural encounters, it's about confronting the consequences of actions taken long before our protagonist was born. The guilt, the rage, the desperate need for understanding: Anderson captures all of it with devastating precision ✨. And how sometimes you need to be careful of what you wish for.

The Pyramid of Souls concept is genius worldbuilding. It feels ancient and mystical while serving as this perfect metaphor for how past actions ripple through generations. Every revelation about Azura's origins feels earned and shocking at the same time.

Character development that hits different:
Watching Azura question everything she's been told about her family, seeing her realize that even her dragon guardians may have hidden crucial truths: it's painful in the best way. Anderson doesn't shy away from the messy emotions that come with discovering your loved ones aren't who you believed them to be 💙.

The pacing is relentless. Just when I thought I had figured out where the story was heading, another layer of deception would peel away. The balance between Azura's internal struggle and the external dangers hunting her is masterfully maintained. Anderson is like Scarlett and she is on 🔥 fire!

That ending though! Whoa is me. Then suddenly.....that's it? What? But that ending!!! Why!!! Those bad....This actually should have been before, I'm just now thinking about it again, grrrr!

This series is becoming something special. Anderson has created a fantasy world that feels lived in and mythologically rich, populated with characters who feel genuinely human despite their extraordinary circumstances. The dragon mythology never feels derivative: it's fresh and compelling and integral to every plot thread.

Cannot wait to see where Azura's journey leads next. This series has earned a permanent spot on my fantasy favorites shelf. If I could give this more than 5 stars, I absolutely would! 🔥

Thank you to the author Abigail Anderson for the gifted copy of this book. I was more than happy to leave my honest opinion.

At the end of the last book, Azura had spoken with a Ghoul and is now owed an answer to a question. She hasn't yet asked it but will in the future. To prove she's ready to be un-nested she's going to identify and begin her trial. To begin she needs to spend time with the Mist Wolf Pack. Big Sister accompanies on her journey and this book opens as they arrive at the pack lands. Her affinity is ice like her adopted father.

After months of training with the Alpha wolves, Azura is ready to begin her trial. First, she must seek permission to traverse her mother's lands as that is where the ghoul roams.

When they get to the cave, Azura's siblings are not there. Her mother tells her that when she left it was the breaking point of the family. Big Sister was first, but not the last.

Her siblings learned a truth, that has them all now un-nested and hating their mother.

Finding the Ghoul and getting her question answered is not as easy as it should be, instead of answer what her name is, she tells Azura to follow the steps she told her siblings to follow. The ones that led to their un-nesting. After that she will tell Azura her name.

There are many tears in this book, for her siblings, big sister, her mother, and Fabius Dann and there is also strength in the success of her trial.

This was another quick read, so I am already reading the next.

Azura DragonChylde, raised by a mighty dragon queen and her fierce drake, embarks on a sacred trial to prove her strength. But her journey unearths a chilling truth: a past steeped in betrayal, blood, and buried secrets. As she confronts a vengeful spirit and uncovers the mystery of her origins, Azura must choose between embracing her legacy or letting the sins of the past consume her.
Her father, once her protector and confidant, becomes a symbol of the burden she must bear. Their shared affinity makes her his favorite, but his attempts to temper her vengeance only fuel her resolve. When Azura ventures into the lands of men, she must rely on new allies, Fabius Dann and his son Lennard, to navigate a world that is both strange and hostile.

Wow! This one took a dark twist!

In the first of The DragonChylde Trials, we were introduced to the DragonChyldren. That was a very enjoyable read giving us the history of Arkalan and how the Dragons and humans dealt with each other and how the DragonChyldren came to exist. In this story, Azura is off with the Mist Wolves beginning her trial to become a Queen in her own right. This story took a very dark turn that I was not expecting and I cannot wait to see where Abigail Anderson takes us next in this saga.

I received an advanced reader’s copy and am voluntarily leaving this review.

‘I am revenge, I name myself retribution’
One of characters wronged ‘had no love for man and his machines and his corruptive ways’. It’s a sad commentary when humans cannot live peacefully alongside other species (or even other cultures) AND cannot live responsibly on our planet.

Some sage advice from the author:
‘The price to be paid for control lost is a steep one.’

Next to review in this set are ‘A Twin’s Choice’, ‘A Twin’s Place’, ‘A Daughter’s Wish’, ‘A Son’s Promise’ and ‘A Dragon’s Family’.

yet another awesome piece of writing

I absolutely loved everything about this book the storyline, the characters, the plot excitement the way the author tells the story and the way they left the story at the end. Cannot wait to start the next book. I hope it is as good as this one, and I know it will be.

Azura DragonChylde has found her test for becoming a Queen in her own right and sets out to prepare for it. Her Ice affinity and closeness with the Mist Wolves helps her understand what she sees. Father blames himself for not preparing the DragonChylren for what they find. What is it? I give no spoilers!
