The long-simmering Mami continues to wage her silent war against Kazuya’s many relationships, while Kazuya indulges a lot of fantasy and familial relations get strained to the old breaking point.

At this stage, if Mami was any more of a foil she’d be sanctioned for Olympic fencing tournaments. Whether she still cares about Kazuya or not, and this being this type of book she probably does, her methods of involving herself in his life are… miserable. Still, much as I hate her, I cannot deny she adds some needed pop to this story.

The main action this time is Kazuya’s indulgent request to have a vintage high school date with Chizuru, trying to relive all the memories he never got to make in the first place. It’s pretty believable and certainly not the worst request he could have made, so there’s that.

This is actually the best section of the book because it illustrates Chizuru’s calm professionalism at a job that is clearly a thankless hell. Even with Kazuya’s interest in her well-being, there’s a lot of customer-client-maybe more that gets blurred and, in a better series, would be grappled with a lot more depth.

Kazuya seems to be aware that he’s paying for Chizuru’s affection, even if she has moments where she seems genuinely fond of him, but he also crosses the line (not like that) in believing they could be something more. Which, again, is the point, but seems terrifying from the female perspective - if all her clients did this it would be solid nightmare fuel.

Anyway, it’s largely an excuse for an amusement park setting and to get Chizuru into her high school duds and, while I do not espouse a schoolgirl fetish, I can never fault the art in this series and the mangaka knocks this clear out of the park, so to speak.

For all Kazuya’s endless fumbles and constant ball drops, he does want the best for Chizuru. By this stage of the game I feel that would best be served by him no longer hiring her and being a bit more of a man about it, but what do I know?

The last section is the beginning of a story arc that involves Ruka interjecting herself into what turns into a joint birthday party for Kazuya and Chizuru at his place.

This bit turns into a lot of friction from Ruka trying to ingratiate herself into the family while Kazuya attempts to make peace and maintain the flimsy lie that this entire series is largely based on (can you tell I’m kind of done with it?).

Honestly, this entire storyline is kind of boring because I think Ruka’s the most straightforward and, bluntly put, dull of the girls at this point. It’s also the most eye-rollingly cliché bit of the story in a series that’s already pretty cliché most of the time. Wackiness that isn’t funny isn’t, well, much fun.

It would be sub-par at the best of times, it takes a lot to sell a concept this sweaty any more, but coming off a genuinely fun, if conflicting, set of chapters like the ones that came before it makes this feel well past its sell-by date, even with the title promising a potential kiss that can just as easily amount to nothing.

3 stars - average series with amazing art, which is my review of every single volume. The date is admittedly cute, but this narrative strains against both the genre’s limitations and the nature of any long-running manga that drags its plot out for ages.

The main character is really a loser, thankfully the cast is fun.

Basically this loser goes for a perfect "date" with his rent a girlfriend, and it is cute mostly because get to reveal more about her and her goals. But the loser can't stop starring at her legs or tits for like five seconds. My guy, I'm horny alot too, but shit man take it easy. Anyway the grandmother almost finds out the loser has been lying but a phone call might save the day!

I have too many feelings about this volume... I went through way too emotions while reading this volume... I don't even know where to begin!
Mami is up to no good! I wasn't a fan of the beginning because Mami talking to Chizuru is never a good sign! I'd like it if Mami stayed away from Chizuru but that's obviously not going to happen.
But onto the only happy moment of this volume! Kazuyas dream date!
That was so freaking precious! Chizuru was willing to do all the things for him and we got so many cute moments! (and some awkward ones but that's to be expected when it comes to Kazuya haha).
I do feel bad that Kazuya didn't get to keep the photos from the photobooth but he will live!
Now onto the most stressful part of the volume... Kazuyas and Chizurus joint birthday party at his parents house... I don't really know where to start! Because at first it wasn't that bad, Ruka was just trying to win the family over and it was going well... until girly pop was about to tell Grandma that she loves him the most, but thankfully Chizuru ended up calling at the perfect moment!
I am so glad that I already own the 11th volume because I need to know what happens next... this series is stressing me out! Ugh!

I really enjoy the passing of the past few volumes. It always feels so long before the English volumes come out though. The cliffhanger was nice and I appreciate the slow burn of the relationships. A four star only because I wish it was longer 🙃. However, in my heart a 5 because the highschool date idea was cute. Sometimes you really wished that Kazuya and Chizuru would be honest with each how they feel.

The date was alright, if a bit overdone. However, this volume has two glaring issues that continue to keep the series from being stupendous. 1> Ruka-chan. 2>Mami-chan. And the gap between these two is a gulf wider than the Grand Canyon and deeper than the Mariana Trench (with Ruka being on the worst side). [Oh do I loathe her character!] I guess I just want to see some forward movement for Kazuya and Mizuhara after 10 volumes rather than feeling like we're taking backward steps.

Well another rental date but this one does have a little more to it, not just because the choice of outfits but the vibe and how Chizuru reacts in moments. The last chapter really looked to blow up in kazuha's face, I'm curious at what will happen next.

The 4 stars are for Kazuya and Chizuru’s school uniform date. It was very cute!!!

And the 1 star that was taken away was for Ruka being her annoying ass self!!!!!

Respected clichés. School uniform. Souvenir photos with awkward poses. An event that brings the two of them physically closer, complete with groping. Fortunately, Ruka wreaks havoc.

This volume focuses heavily on one date and doesn't progress much in the way of story and characters. The last few chapters are where things get good. Ruka is starting to become more agressive in her pursuit and gets involved in his birthday party with his family. It is sad to see Ruka get treated the way that she does. She deserves better. We end with the typical cliffhanger ending. Things are starting to get a little stale at this point. I hope things can get back on track.

4 1/2 ⭐️ Don't you wish you could just tell them off sometimes. That tells you how good the manga is. 👏
