Ruric Nevel Roark (1859-1909) established the Glasgow Normal School in Kentucky, and for four years was at the head of that institution. Then he was elected dean of the pedagogical department of the State University, at Lexington, remaining there for seventeen years. When the State Normal Schools were established he was selected as president of the eastern school, located at Richmond, where he remained until his death.

During all these years he did a vast amount of work and study, traveling in all parts of the country in institute work, lecturing, attending state and national conventions, and was in general demand as a platform speaker. In addition to this he was author of several books, the better known being “Psychology in Education,” “Economy in Education,” “Method in Education,” and “General Outline of Pedagogy,” which have had a wide general sale, and are adopted text books in many states. He was the most prominent figure in the Kentucky educational field, and a national character in his chosen one of work.
