Unfortunately not a manual on how to curse your enemies, if that's what you're looking for

Dickie's book is probably the best general survey of early through late antique magic currently available. It's a bit light on theurgy, but the overall breadth of the study is tremendous.

Very much as the BMCR review said. Really interesting, lots and lots of info, but I can't recall the last time I read such credulous use of the ancient sources: Dickie very much subscribes to the belief that all stereotypes are based in truth and that you can use literary, stereotyped portrayals to recover some sort of empirical lived truth. But a wide-ranging, fascinating collection of information.
