Amish Country Ransom is an action-packed, adventurous journey with FBI agent Jade Powell and K-9 trainer Ethan Connors through Montana Amish country braving hazardous weather and bullets to stop a terrorist threat and rescue Jade’s sister. It is also a journey for Ethan to overcome guilt over perceived failures in his life and for Jade to gain closure for nightmarish experiences from her past in Afghanistan. The fast-paced plot, with its twists and surprises, kept me engaged from the beginning and caught up in the story to the end. The scenes with the rescue dogs are especially intriguing. I love Jade and Ethan and the way their romantic relationship develops. I appreciate the gentle faith element infused into the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this suspenseful, inspiring story and highly recommend it. I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Normally, I love reading a book by Mary Alford. I really thought that since this book was bringing back some familiar characters, it would be a great read. However, it was too unrealistic and unbelievable to me. If you like action movies where the heroes keep fighting against insurmountable odds and save the day, then you would love this book. How many times, using only a handgun, can you escape from assassins with better weapons, and being way outnumbered by the bad guys? How many shootouts can you have before you suffer a fatal injury? I was a little disappointed and actually had to force myself to finish the book. That said, Ms Alford is a very good author, and this is the first book I have read by her that disappointed me. I will continue to read her books, just hoping the next book is more realistic, and less like an action movie. That said, maybe Hollywood would buy the book and make an action movie out of it.
We may be in Amish country, but buckle up, because action abounds in the land of the plain living peacekeepers. We’ve met K-9 trainer Ethan Connors before in previous books by author Mary Alford, but in Amish Country Ransom, he’s the focus. Ethan is at war…with himself. He is burdened with guilt over serving in the military while his wife battled cancer at home. She lost her battle while he was away. FBI Agent Jade Powell holds deep emotional scars from a traumatic attack by a man who is yet to be caught. Jade has begun to try and rebuild relationships, starting with her sister, Rose. But Rose goes missing, and Jade is taunted by the monster who now has her. Now Jade turns to Ethan and his K-9s for help. Remember that old game, Mousetrap, where the trap was set bit by bit, and you never knew when it would fall apart? Amish Country Ransom is like that…but who is setting the traps for who? Plus can both Jade and Ethan give their battles to the Lord and realize only He can truly heal their scars? You need to find out! I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.
Amish Country Ransom is an extremely thrilling story written by Mary Alford. The characters really brought this story to life and with such great visual aides from the author you feel everything the main characters went through. There is danger on almost every page keeping the readers interest. The storyline is a very powerful one. The conclusion really gives the readers closure as well. Another strong story by this author.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this story to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a excellent story that I can highly recommend to others.
An enemy from the past, a winter storm brewing, and a race against time to rescue a loved one keeps the reader turning the pages in this exciting, edge-of-your-seat suspense!
*I received this complimentary copy from the author, but this is my own opinion.
Amish Country Ransom By Mary Alford Comes out August 22,2023
Jade Powell is an FBI agent. Ethan Connors is a K9 trainer.
When Jade left the military, she left with many internal scars. So many she could not even be touched! She vowed to find and take down the man responsible.
Ethan had his own burdens to carry. He was on assignment overseas, and his wife was home battling cancer. He holds the burden of remaining overseas instead of coming home to his dying wife. By the time he did get home, they had very little time together before she passed.
Jade and Ethan come together on a high suspense chase to find Jade’s sister Rose. And to take down DIV the man responsible for all Jade’s torment.
I highly recommend this book if you like suspense and mystery. And a fast moving pace. Oh, and there’s dogs not one dog but three dogs.
Thank you to Mary Alford for this ARC. THIS IS MY HONEST OPINION.
Those that follow me know I LOVE Amish fictions books of any type. I gobble them up like candy. I happy to have found Amish Country Ransom at a used bookstore. But… I wasn’t able to gobble this book up. It’s not that I didn’t like it but I most certainly didn’t love it. I can’t pinpoint why though. Maybe it was the repetitive gunfire scenes that seemed too far fetched or the lack of the Amish feel good scenes I enjoy.
Will I read more by Mary Alford? Yes. Was this a bad book? No. Overall 3.75 stars for me. You will most definitely have a different reading experience than I and I hope you enjoy the book.
Amish Country Ransom is written by Mary Alford. True to the authors fashion the book starts off with plenty of heart pounding suspense and doesn’t let up. K-9 trainer Ethan Connors wants to help out a former military friend. Jade Powell calls Ethan when she realizes her sister is missing. She had previously been attacked while serving and was working on reconciling relationships. This includes the one with her sister, Rose. When she finds Rose missing she turns to Ethan.
Ethan had lost his wife with his commitment to the military. He now has found joy helping to train K9 with his Amish friends. We’ve seen Ethan in previous books so I’m glad he got his own story.
Jade is now worried that the person who attacked her has now gotten her sister. She won’t stop until she gets her sister back safe and sound. Jade and Ethan both have some hurt from the paths they need to set down to be able to trust each other.
The author has done such a wonderful job with the suspense in this book. I always know that when I read a book of hers it will be action packed. I always make sure to set aside time so I won’t get interrupted.
Thank You to the author for allowing me to read a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
Mary Alford always has me in suspense with her stories. And this one was beyond attention grabber. With action packed from the start, FBI agent Jade and K-9 trainer Ethan have you on one rollercoaster of a ride. With detours, surprises and suspense as they run through the Amish county mountains. When evil surprises Jade and Rose after checking the legal and dangerous activity going up in the mountains, Rose, Jade's sister is abducted from the mysterious dangerous man in Jade's dreams from her past. And is up to Ethan and his three canine friends to locate Rose through snow and woods before she suffers the same torture in Jade's past. Will they find her before he sets his plan in action and get away??
This book will have you at the end of your seat as you turn the page fast enough as the bullets are flying everywhere. Will they uncover the identity of the mysterious and dangerous man, and uncover the plan he has in stored? By far another thriller of a story.
I received an ARC from the author. I was not asked to leave a positive review. All stated her are my own thoughts.
Lots of action from the get-go! FBI agent Jade Powell's sister is abducted and she calls K-9 trainer Ethan Connors for help. He goes to help her but has to find her first. She is on the run. People are trying to kill her! Why? It seems that maybe an enemy from her past is after her to stop her from uncovering his hidden agenda. They must run in Amish country during a snow storm! Can they elude their pursuers and survive the crazy weather? Will they uncover what this madman has in store and prevent it? Will they find her sister still alive?
Wow! A good read. I received this book to read from the author but was under No Obligation to give a favorable review. I really enjoyed this book! Am looking for the books now for the other guys stories mentioned in the book.
AMISH COUNTRY RANSOM by Mary Alford is the fast-paced, action-filled story of FBI agent Jade Powell and K-9 trainer Ethan Connors. As each works through things from their past and thinking themselves unworthy or incapable of loving anyone, they find solace in their friendship as they work towards a common goal – catching the bad guys.
Jade left the military a scared woman. She had been kidnapped and attacked by the monster that went by the name DIV. She retreated into herself to the point of not being able to be touched by anyone or to have any meaningful relationships, which ended her engagement. It wasn’t until recently that she’d recovered enough to reach out to Rose, her sister, to try to mend their relationship. They are finding their way back to being sisters through their mutual love for law enforcement. After leaving the military, Jade eventually went to work with the FBI. Her baby sister is interested in entering the law enforcement field. Rose had accompanied her on a few stake outs on her days off or evenings as she’s trying to find evidence against her worse nightmare to bring him to justice proving him to be the monster he is. She never imagined that Rose would try to investigate on her own. Now DIV has contacted her boasting that he has Rose. Jade knows she has to find her before the same fate happens to Rose as it had to her and Arezo, a young girl from Afghanistan – or worse. She reaches out to the one person she knows she can trust – Ethan.
Ethan feels like his life is in limbo. It’s impossible to go back and he can’t move forward. He did his wife an injustice by remaining overseas fighting a war that couldn’t be won leaving her to fight the fight for her life. By the time he did come home, cancer already had his wife in its clutches leaving only a few precious months left of them being together. When her father died a few months later from a broken heart of losing his only child, it left Ethan with no one. It wasn’t until he grew in his faith that he even felt he had a future. But how could he have a future with someone else without feeling that he was betraying the love of his life? Over the course of the years, his relationship with Jade had grown, feelings begin to develop, but he refused to accept what was right in front of him. He didn’t deserve a second chance at love when he had failed so miserably with this first shot. One thing he knows – he will do anything in his power to help her and to keep her safe. Or will he fail her too?
While trying to find Rose, sometimes Jade and Ethan thought they were the stalker and other times that they were the ones being stalked. Who will win this cat and mouse game of life and death? Will they be able to find Rose and put an end to the reign of terror DIV has had? Will they find out his true identity? What are his plans now that he’s in the states? Can they stop him? Will their emotional connection continue to grow or will both of them put on the brakes? Can they cross the hurdles of past fears?
AMISH COUNTRY RANSOM is a one sitting book. Understanding where each is coming from makes, you understand their actions, but your desire to see them make a break through to the future along with wanting to see DIV pay for what he has done will make it impossible for you to put this amazing book down once you start reading it. The search and rescue dogs add another level of adventure to the story. Their devotion to Ethan and willingness to keep going makes them an amazing trio and vital members to the team. Mary Alford keeps the pressure on all while wrapping the story in an amazing thread of faith that will have you believing in and hoping for a happily ever after. She never disappoints this reader. She definitely excelled in delivering an amazing FIVE STAR book for readers this time!
I receive an ARC of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own.
First off this is NOT a book about the Amish lifestyle. It IS set in Amish country and there are a couple of Amish minor characters who support the main characters, but guns and violence are prevalent. The novel is really enjoyable, and it was natural to feel compassion for Ethan and Jade because they really had been through so much in their life. Jade was frustrating because her personal vendetta was probably what got them into such a dangerous position. It was a little wearisome with the constant shootouts, but this is a suspense novel, after all. All of the characters were well developed and engaging, and I appreciated the faith thread which was wound throughout the story. I have read and enjoyed several of Mary Alford’s novels and don’t hesitate to recommend them. Personally, I’m not a fan of Amish fiction, but she does write those and I’m sure a fan would enjoy that genre, considering that the author is very talented. Her backlist is awesome, and I invite you to indulge in either a traditionally published book or one of the Love Inspired ones from Harlequin. This particular one is Love Inspired which makes it a bit shorter than a traditional book, but they are always fun to read. Trigger Warnings: Gun violence, kidnapping, rape, PTSD. I received a copy of this book from a blog give-away, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. The tension and suspense just keeps ramping up in this Amish suspense novel by Mary Alford. Jade turns to K-9 trainer Ethan Connors when her sister is kidnapped. The two of them know that there are real criminals plotting some kind of awful and fiery event and somehow Jade’s sister got caught in the middle. Now, Jade and Ethan are racing through the wilderness in a blizzard to save her sister and to thwart an evil plot. The chemistry between the protagonists is brilliantly written and the complicated plot is head-spinning at times as the two race to save the nation against terrorism. The plot crackles with tension as the air gets colder and the weather worsens. This is an intense suspense with a budding romance and a cleverly written page-turner. The book is unique in that it involves an Amish K-9 team and their knowledge about wilderness survival is a welcome addition to the story. I found the characters captivating and the story compelling and relevant, so I highly recommend this book. Disclaimer Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions expressed are my own. Amish Country Ransom by Mary Alford is definitely a must read in one sitting. And believe me...you are going to want to read it all before you put it down. It's that intense and that good! First of all, I love books during winter storms. I'm instantly attracted to winter storms especially when it's so hot outside. The cover is gorgeous! I admit that if it's a good cover then I'm more likely to pick up a book and read the back cover to see if it's my type of book. This one checks all the marks. Gorgeous cover, faith based, romantic suspense, FBI agents, k-9s, and a winter storm is everything I could want in a book. If this sounds good to you then I hope you will read this one. It also has an epilogue! Yay! It's a great must read book. If you like books that are intense past-faced where friends are hunting for a kidnapper and killer while also being chased by said killer where feelings might finally come to the surface then don't delay and get this book. These two have a lot of healing that needs to happen. Their backstories only add to this amazing book. Plus, have I mentioned that it has k-9s? I love a good book with k-9s. You won't be sorry you are reading this one. I was given a copy, but all opinions are my very own.
I love it when an author decides to reunite readers with secondary characters from previous books. We've met Jade Powell and Ethan Connor before but now, they've been given their own chance to shine! Jade is a FBI Agent who was traumatized while serving in Afghanistan and being home hasn't freed her from being under attack. Her sister Rose is missing and the person responsible for her kidnapping appears to have Jade in his/her sights also! K9 trainer Ethan and his K9 team, along with his two Amish friends, Fletcher and Mason Shetler, may become Jade's only hope! Will they be able to protect Jade while searching for her sister and another young Afghanistan woman who is also missing?
Author Mary Alford takes us back to West Kootenai, Montana for an exciting adventure filled with twists, turns, and intense danger. There's a snowstorm to battle, an unrelenting (and surprising) villain, and two people dealing with crippling emotional scars. I can always count on Alford's ability to keep me turning the pages and I'm never disappointed with the story that she shares! I recommend Amish Country Ransom to all who enjoy romantic Christian fiction!
I received a complimentary copy from the author. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Amish Country Ransome. I'm a big fan of Mary's work. I really enjoy suspense and I really enjoy Amish stories so her work is a no brainer for me, This story is well-written, action-packed, and full of faith. I know you ar going to love it.
Search and Rescue Team Member and dog trainer Ethan Conners receives a call from a former military soldier who had saved his life. "Help me." She whisperes. "Ethan, he's here and he has her." Ethan had no doubt who Jade was talking about. Ethan shot to his feet. "Where are you?" The call was lost. He nust find her and her sister.
FBI Agent Jade Powell had been captured when she was in the Marines. A monster had tortured her. She left the Marines to become an FBI agent. Now his is here in Montana and he has kidnapped her sister. She has to save her sister from the horrors she had gone through. Her only hope is Ethan. She knows he will help her he knows what she went through.
A horrifying journey to find Rose and keep safe from a true monster. God has a plan for these two, a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. A good plan of peace and not evil, even in this time of political chaos. Give Him your heart and watch God move in your life.
Danger lurks everywhere, it seems. FBI Agent Jade Powell and K-9 trainer Ethan Connors team up to try to stop those who threaten to kill not only them but perhaps many. The duo and three of his dogs head through the snowy Montana winter in an area where Amish live, but the story mostly revolves around this intrepid couple. It amazed me how the two could keep going so long with injuries through the freezing weather and getting soaked without succumbing to hypothermia or eating something to keep up their strength. I also felt sorry for the wonderful dogs, who also carried on without nourishment for hours. The hunt and chase began to seem a bit repetitious, but readers want the good guys to win and the bad ones to get caught—although it seemed like this might never happen, and the author did throw in some surprises. The main characters came across as living and breathing and tough. The Amish men we met in a former novel played a minor role so we don’t get to know them well here, but I’m still surprised they would be willing to shoot people (and Amish are nonresistant, not pacifists). I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
I would highly recommend Amish Country Ransom, it was great to finally know more of K-9 trainer, Ethan Connors' story and FBI Agent, Jade Powell's story. They were mentioned in previous books, making you want to know more of them. Well, Mary Alford definitely delivered on this read! In Amish Country Ransom, Jade's sister is kidnapped and she calls for Ethan to help her to save her sister before it's too late. Ethan is glad to help Jade save her sister because Jade once saved his life and he'd like to return the favor. Join Jade and Ethan as they fight their way through the snowy, cold weather deep in Amish Country to find her sister and try to stay alive. An enemy from Jade's past will stop at nothing to carry out his plan and will not let anything get in his way including Jade and Ethan. Pick up this read to find out if Jade and Ethan will be able to save her sister in time, outwit the enemy and stop his plan!
Enjoyed this novel to the fullest! Fast paced with lots of twists and turns that will make you feel like you're on a rollercoaster ride! This is the second novel I've read by this author. She will be added to my list of favorites She really knows how to engage her readers right from the get go. Jade and Ethan made a wonderful team! My favorite though was really the dogs! How smart they were! Especially Molly! What a sweetheart! I found myself wanting to reach out to give her and the other dogs a hug! They're really my heroes! In some places I found myself shivering because of all the action and snowstorm at the same time! The snowstorm made it all that more exciting! 5 stars for an excellent and an exciting adventure! My thanks for a copy of this book! I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I received this book as an ARC with no expectation of a positive review. I had a hard time putting down this fabulous story abour Jade, Rose and Ethan. When you are a soldier on foreign soil, you never think that it will follow you home. For Jade, it continued. She wanted so much to find closure. Her kidnapper would go to great lengths to keep his secrets quiet. Ethan who was her lieutenant. After they both left the military, they both settled in an Amish community. Ethan worked with K-9 dogs with Search and Rescue. The quest to bring the kidnapper and his secrets to life could mean death to both of them as they track the mountainside trying to bring Rose home safely after being kidnapped. Will they all make it out alive?
WOW!! I have been looking forward to Ethan's and Jade's story but it exceeded my expectations! Jade is an FBI agent who once saved Ethan's life. Ethan is a search and rescue dog trainer. When Jade's sister is taken and Jade is in danger, Ethan uses his dogs to help protect Jade while searching for her sister.
This is an action-packed story. It keeps you on the edge of your seat to see what else is going to happen. There were multiple surprises, especially toward the end.
Mary Alford handled with care the mention of a couple of sensitive subjects so they are "there" but not overwhelming in the story.
I received an advance copy to read but all opinions expressed are mine. I recommend this inspirational suspense as an excellent read.
This story is jam-packed with action, fear and endless twists. How can Ethan and Jade, both former combat vets, possibly continue on, despite the dreadful weather, continually trying to figure out where Jade’s sister, Rose, is being held? Praying as they try to run through the snow, avoiding gunshots and other dangers, always hoping that help will come before it is too late.
In this very hot summer, this well written book set in a winter storm is sure to cool you down. You can almost feel the cold! Set aside enough time to finish this in one sitting, as it will be impossible to leave Ethan and Jade out there in the storm.
An early copy was received through Love Inspired Suspense. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Jade Powell is former military as is Ethan Connors. When Jade asks for Ethan's help to find her sister, he can't turn her down--she saved his life, after all.
Ethan feels he failed his wife when he didn't come home when his wife was first diagnosed with cancer. When he did finally make it, they only had a short time together before she died. Jade is carrying a heavy burden from being kidnapped by a vicious enemy and now he has her sister. The action is nonstop as Jade and Ethan try to rescue her sister. Each of them must face their failures and learn to lean on God.
This action-packed romantic suspense will keep you glued to the page until the very end.
When I was reading this book I was almost afraid to read the next chapter because of the danger surrounding our heroes! I kept reminding myself that the main characters would survive even though the odds looked slim.
From the back cover: "A winter storm turns a fight for justice into a struggle for survival... After FBI agent Jade Powell's sister is abducted, K-9 trainer Ethan Connors is determined to help the woman who once saved his life. But an enemy from Jade's past will stop at nothing to keep his agenda hidden. With a storm brewing and a killer hunting them deep into Amish country, can Jade and Ethan survive the treacherous weather long enough to bring a criminal mastermind to justice?
A winter storm transforms a battle for justice into a fight for survival. The weather has a big part in this story! I don't know if I could have made it through all Jade and Ethan went through.
When FBI agent Jade Powell's sister is kidnapped, K-9 trainer Ethan Connors resolves to assist the woman who previously saved his life. However, a foe from Jade's past is relentless in concealing his schemes. As the storm intensifies, and a murderer pursues them into the depths of Amish territory, Jade and Ethan must endure the perilous conditions to apprehend a criminal genius. There is a lot of action, and I enjoyed the gentle nature of the romance between the two characters.
Amish Country Ransom by Mary Alford is not the first book of hers I’ve read. She writes intriguing romantic suspense and keeps you guessing.
Jade Powell, a FBI agent, sister Rose is abducted by an old enemy of hers. A man she once saved, Ethan Connors, a K-9 trainer is determined to help her. It was one crisis after another, which made it a little hard to read for me. However, she keeps you rooting for Jade and Ethan that they will find Rose.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
A heart pounding, non-stop action suspense story. This book will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. Taking place in the mountains where several Amish people live is a danger that Ethan and Jade try to find before her sister is killed. Jade is an ex-soldier who was taken and abused in Afghanistan, now working for the FBI. Ethan is her former lieutenant and a great support for her. Amidst the danger and running for their lives a love that has been suppressed will bloom, but they must stay alive to admit it.
Fueled by fear for her sister’s life Jade reaches out to Ethan to find the abductors. Fast paced nonstop action ensues that keeps you on the edge of your seat. You will be drawn into Amish country wilderness where nefarious activities are taking place that are dangerous and put Jade and Ethan in their crosshairs. This had the hair raise up on my arms as time is running out. If you love heart pounding suspense with a little romance then this is one you will want to read. I won a copy of this from a newsletter. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
