Presents an introduction to the solar system, describing the Sun, the eight planets, and its other bodies such as dwarf planets and asteroids, and the history of the study of the solar system.
A wonderful collection of facts on the solar system that isn't too daunting for a child. The topics are laid out in short chapters with plenty of photographs and diagrams. There is an interactive "word detective" aspect to it which my daughter really liked. The end contains web-sites for further study as well as a guide for parents or teachers in order to use this book most effectively. This was used for home-school and served us well.
This is a really cool book and I would recomend it for teachers who are dealing with a Solar System unit in their science classes. The book talks about the planets that surround earth and call it a "neighborhood" so that students can understand kind of what the solar system is like. The book has bigger font and uses easier vocabulary with a lot of pictures, so I think this book is appropriate for younger students learning about planets.
This is a great book to share with second graders when they are learning about space. The images in the book look realistic while some are actual photographs taken by NASA. It is great that the book asks questions for the reader to think about while reading and key terms are listed for further learning.
