Navy Lies

Rate this book
Living in the shadows for years means you know just how dark things can be.
She’s married to the man who should have been mine.
She’s raising the child who should have been mine.
She’s living the life that should have been mine.
Her family destroyed and tormented me.
They thought they had gotten rid of me like mere trash.
But here I am.
Lurking in the shadows.
Watching their every move, plotting and planning.
They thought they were powerful.
But here I am.
I may have to lie my way into their perfectly tailored lives, weaving and snaking myself into
their safe haven.
All I know is this isn’t a simple white lie I’ll have to tell. I’ll have to tell a dark one, a destructive one…
A navy lie.
And when I do, I’ll take back everything that is mine.

Don't look for happy endings here. Don't expect a pleasant distraction from real life. Be prepared to experience madness. 🫣

Navy is a character who will haunt me for awhile. 👹

Omg and I also love how Monica puts an Easter egg in there. If you have read her other books, you’ll understand what I mean. 🤩

If you're looking for a dark thriller, look no further than Monica Arya's thriller novels! I absolutely loved The Next Mrs. Wimberly, so when Monica announced her newest book, I was beyond excited!! (I loves me some revenge!) You can imagine my squeals of joy when I received an ARC of new latest novel, Navy Lies.

With Navy Lies, prepare to dive into a world of deceit (obviously), betrayal, trauma, revenge, and madness. Throughout the entire book, you will be trying to figure out what's going on, and then if what's going on is actually going on. There are also some easter eggs from Arya's previous novels, which made me so happy!

A huge THANK YOU to Monica Arya for providing me with an early copy of Navy Lies!! It's 5 dark, thrilling stars, and everyone who likes 'dark' novels should pre-order it immediately! It will be released March 14, 2023, and everyone in the book groups everywhere will be talking about it!

Holy flapjacks! I mean for crying out loud! Monica is becoming a major climber in the thriller world, ladies & gents! It's incredible how someone can have such a twisted imagination like this and make it so darkly delectable that you not only want, but need to read more by her! This one easily trumps the cake tiers with its sumptuous deeply dark & thrilling vibes. Put down the cheesecake and instead dive into some yummy decadence instead with this mastermind of a gem! It's absolutely divine, sinister, suspenseful for beats and yet so unrelentingly satisfying with that end. Be ready for some majorly intense, dark yet thrill-ifying chapters with this dark gem! Run for it now because after reading this, you'll be navy, too!

🛑 Trigger Warnings: Mention of self-harm ; Mental Health ; Some violent scenes

Thank you to Monica Arya & her ARC team for this ARC!

I was so eager to flip the script and create a female anti-heroine in a role that traditionally is often portrayed by male main characters. Navy was a whirlwind character to develop and write and I absolutely hope you enjoy her story and meeting her. (Content warnings for this novel can be found at www.monicaarya.) It's a dark one, friends. Thank you for reading!

A really excellent book again! I didn’t think that this book was as dark as her others but as a self-confessed thriller and gory book girly it does take quite a lot to shock me. I do recommend if you’re not used to reading books like this that you do check out the warnings at the beginning of the novel.

There should be a warning on this book that you need to read this after the next Mrs Wimberley! So I’m really glad that by coincidence I read this book 2nd!

Another really gripping book, it does share many of the same themes as the others that I’ve read by this author, yet despite the fact that I now have an inkling as to how this book will go her twists and turns woven in the story always seem to manage to shock me. Her books have got me out of a huge book slump that has plagued me for the last couple of weeks. I’m so I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m gonna save the next two a little while longer and clear some other books off my TBR.

Ok, this is my third book I’ve read by @monicaaryaauthor and it did not disappoint. I loved it! Boy, she has such a dark mind to think up this stuff. Her books are so twisted and I’m here for all of it. 🙌🏻 So far, out of the three books, I’ve read so far, I love how all the main characters are such smart and savvy women. Even if they were the victims at one point or another, these women are strong and fighters and should never be underestimated.
In this book, we meet Navy. She has been wronged by people she trusted. They took away everything from her. Most important of all; her daughter. Navy must tell lie after lie and go to great lengths to get her daughter back. This book is about sweet revenge at its best. I just loved it. This was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5 stars for me!! I highly recommend not only this book, but ANY book by this author. If you like dark and twisted then she is definitely for you. Pick up one of her books today. You won’t be disappointed.

What have you read by Monica Arya? What book is your favorite?
So far, I think my favorite is Don’t Believe Him, but I think when her new book (The Favorite Girl) comes out next month, that may become an instant favorite.

Another fantastic read from Monica. This book had my head spinning. It’s taken me a few days to let the book sit and stew awhile. What did I just read? What just happened there?

This book was a true psychological read that touched on many mental health issues. Navy was the golden standard of an unrealiable narrator. Just when I thought I had things figured out the plot took a turn, and then another turn, and then a final turn.

I love this authors writing style. As before, there were so many great quotes I wanted to use in my review; but I’d, once again, be quoting half the book. Just a fantastic read.

I just started “Don’t Believe Him” by the same author and am loving it SO MUCH!

This book was all over the place while leaving you going wtf. Parts are so far fetched and ridiculous it just didn't make sense for me. Navy deserved her revenge....but that isn't exactly what came of it? Idk just wasn't a big fan. Was okay written. Just meh for me

Absolute perfection. Female Joe Goldberg vibes but add in heavy emotional and physical trauma. Navy broke my heart so many times on her journey and she will forever hold a piece of it. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend!

“The trick in telling the perfect lie is believing it yourself. You must become the lie, absorb it, consume it. You must relish in it, and most of all, you must forget your truth.”

“Wearing white tonight wasn’t to feel pure for him. I was wearing white so I could see his blood splatter all over my body.“

“Oh, honey… I’m dead. This is hell. I’m here to make sure you eventually burn. But first… the devil wants to play.”

Book Review: Navy Lies by Monica Arya ★★★★★

Monica Arya delivers a gripping, suspenseful thriller in Navy Lies, a novel packed with secrets, deception, and unexpected twists that will keep you hooked from page one. The story is fast-paced and immersive, with an atmosphere of tension that lingers until the very last page.

Arya’s writing is sharp and compelling, creating a world where trust is fragile, and nothing is as it seems. The characters are well-developed and layered, making their struggles feel raw and real. Just when you think you have it all figured out, the plot takes another turn, keeping you guessing and engaged.

If you love dark, twisty psychological thrillers that keep you on the edge of your seat, Navy Lies is a must-read. Arya masterfully blends mystery, suspense, and emotion, making this book impossible to put down. Highly recommended!

Monica has done it again! This book is truly unlike anything I’ve read before. The characters, the twists, the plot?! I couldn’t put it down. What really stands out for me with this one is our MC Navy, she is truly such a unique character. The entire time I was reading I couldn’t really figure out how I felt about her. She’s unlikable but yet you want to root for her. This story is dark and twisty but man oh man it’s a good one. My jaw quite literally dropped!

Monica, you blow me away every single time and I’m truly in awe of you my friend. I am so honored that you let me beta read this wonderful story and even more honored to see my name as one of the main characters. I adore you and I’m so grateful for you. Congrats on yet another amazing book!!!

i was speechless reading this book and left speechless after finishing it.

holy crap, talk about an unreliable narrator. i’ve never read a book with a narrator this unreliable, unhinged, and honestly just straight up confusing and i LOVED every second of it. the amount of times i said oh my god while reading this has to be a new record. i couldn’t even guess how the ending was going to play out and even if i could have i still would’ve been SHOCKED. seriously yall need to go read this book like right freaking now.

this was my first book by this author and definitely will NOT be my last.

Thank you Monica for the gifted ARC!

Monica is back with another wild ride but this time we have a female hellbent on revenge 😈

Navy is a character I simultaneously rooted for and wanted to smack across the head. She’s cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs but you can’t help but want to see her plans come to fruition.

As per usual, there were a couple Easter eggs from Monica’s previous book (I won’t say which) that I loved!

Thank you Monica for the gifted eARC and my spot on your fabulous street team!

This is the first book I've read by Monica Arya. I have all her other books already downloaded on my Kindle that I will be diving into soon! I just HAD to read her newest one first!!!

First off, this cover is absolutely gorgeous! Second, I was so addicted to this dark and twisty story--absolutely could NOT put it down! Let me just tell you all, Navy Lies is deep. It's not your average psychological thriller. I liked how Monica integrated mental health rep into this story and the effects trauma can have on a person.
I was so captivated by Navy's character and I enjoyed rooting for her. The ending was shocking! Don't want to give anything away, so you will just have to read it to find out!

If you enjoy revenge, obsession, crazy twisted secrets.....you will definitely LOVE Navy Lies.

Wowza!!! Monica went DARK with this one! If you love a dark revenge thriller this is totally gonna be for you! I absolutely loved it. It is filled with:

🔥lies
🔥betrayal
🔥trauma
🔥revenge
🔥Easter egg characters (LOVE those)
✨ Don’t eat chicken nuggets while reading this. Don’t ask.

At one point, I thought *I* might be the crazy one. I had no clue what to believe and what not to believe! I also didn’t know who to feel sorry for. This one got me feelin’ all types of ways! What a wild ride!

Thank you to the author for this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

WOW!!!
This was my first book by this author and definitely not my last. Navy has made it her mission to have the ultimate revenge on the woman who stole her child.

Past:

She was happy when she first started seeing him because he promised they had a future and then she BECAME pregnant! She was in a relationship with a married man who became a senator. He did not want a child and then a plan is formed.

Now:

Navy has planned for years to find her child and take revenge on the senator and the woman involved. This one is dark and has some vivid scenes, so prepared for some gory scenes. As a fan of NCIS and other crime thrillers these scenes had my imagination spinning. How far will she go to get what she wants?

Triggers: Rape, abuse, explicit gory scenes, cutting

Let me tell you, Monica Arya knows how to write dark, psychological thrillers! As with her previous thrillers, this book grabbed me from the very first page! I loved how dark, twisty, and full of revenge it was!

Navy was such a unique and complex character. Sometimes, I didn't know if I should be rooting for or against her! She is definitely a character who will stick with me for a while!

The ending was so good, it will blow your mind! 🤯

This is the first time I am going the 'character appreciation route' for an ARC review, and let me tell you why! THIS FIERCE MAIN CHARACTER ENERGY right here, is what I've been waiting for in my dark thrillers. Monica, thank you for making that happen!

Navy Mian! She is my peoples. She is a woman you do NOT want to cross (believe me)

"𝙄 𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙡𝙖𝙜𝙨. 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙛𝙪𝙣 𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙢𝙚"

"𝙂𝙞𝙧𝙡𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙢𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣'𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢, 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙜𝙞𝙧𝙡𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙢𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙣𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙚. 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩'𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙮 𝙜𝙞𝙧𝙡𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙢𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙞𝙚."

"𝙉𝙖𝙫𝙮 𝙞𝙨 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙, 𝙉𝙖𝙫𝙮 𝙞𝙨 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙮."

...and Navy is also so much more. Navy loves Mcdonald's fries with a diet coke. She loves a good red lippy, she loves retaliation, to get what's hers, she loves hard, she whispers gut-wrenching words to herself. Navy owns permanent markers. She is crazy and delusional and psychotic and a badass...All that to say, you will just have to read the book on March 14th (when it releases) to become well acquainted with her story. @monicaaryaauthor serves us her darkest thriller yet.

Thank You Monica for having me on your ARC team!!!

Wow... just wow. Monica (Author) really does know her stuff when it comes to mental illness and I praise her. I felt everything for Navy from pain and mistrust, to love and even redemption. I cannot think of any other author I've read who has ever done a character so much justice.

I won't give you any spoilers with this review. I will saw every one of Monica's books in this 'world' (Girl in the Reflection, Shades of her, The Next Mrs Wimberly and of course Navy Lies) has such 'true' characters. I won't say real, these are far fetched but also aspects of them are every day occurrences for some. Navy is a very intricate character but I honestly think she is my favourite of all of them. Although other characters from previous books sometimes cross paths each book can be read on its own.

I've consumed these books in the past 4 or is it 5 days back to back. All on kindle unlimited so free if you subscribe. But if you don't, so worth reading. A solid 4 stars.. Wow that ending. I do hope we see more of this 'world' from Monica and the books don't even with Navy, although if they did? Talk about go out with a bang! Navy you are definitely worthy in my eyes!

Honestly .. what did I just read? It’s like Arya forgot to take her dexies and did 3 shots of rocket fuel before writing this text. There is little to no structure, no rhyme or reason… character development is non existent. The writing style was clunky at best, and did a huge disservice to the actual plot, which was basic in itself. It was incredibly hard to follow, and chopped and changed so much. The writing gave the illusion that there was pieces of the puzzle missing, but honestly jumped around so much I had to keep re reading pages because I legitimately thought I missed pages because things didn’t make sense. The final chapters were akin to a very dull anti climax with a dud root after Pulse Nightclub and you think “could’ve done a better job myself”. Boo, hiss, thumbs down.

Oh. My. Heart. 😮‍💨 This book was intense from start to finish! Navy Lies is a slick, fast-paced thriller.

Halfway through this book and I swear, everyone is a sociopath 😳 I could not, for the life of me, figure out which way the story would go. Monica Arya had me questioning every motive, every memory, every smile. It’s twisted, emotional, and so damn unpredictable.

The FMC? Oh, she’s obsessed, like, “burn-the-world-to-get-her-child” level of obsessed and honestly, I was rooting for her every step of the way. A mother’s love truly has no fury like this. The lengths she goes to, the secrets unraveled… pure, unrelenting chaos wrapped in heartbreak and determination.

It’s dark, gripping, and disturbingly human. Easily one of my favorite thrillers this year.

“You can be in the trenches of life but if you swipe on a good shade of lipstick, it melts the pain away slightly”

Oh my gawwwwwsh.

It’s not very common to find a book that is this all over the place but it still makes perfect sense.

If you are looking for a happy ending, this ain’t it.
However, it was the perfect ending to this dark and twisty PSYCHOLOGICAL (like heavy on the psychological) thriller.

It has the drama, the gore, the scheming and a sultry villain that you catch yourself rooting for.

Short chapters which is PERFECT and wonderfully written!

Navy lies.

Navy has seen so much in her short life. Unthinkable situations with everyone .
Life has been so messed up. She's out for what's Rightfully hers. Even if Revenge plays apart. Time to take back what was always hers..

Sometimes, doing the wrong thing feels so right for Navy.

This book will have you guessing at every turn asking yourself whats real, and what not. I love a great Psychological thriller. This one has been a sweet read. this was such a thrilling Read.
Truly that Edge of your seat... Read straight through.
