Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.
Amanda Carpenter (aka Thea Harrison) resides in northern California. She wrote her first book, a romance, when she was nineteen and had sixteen romances published under the name Amanda Carpenter.
She took a break from writing to collect a couple of graduate degrees and a grown child. Her graduate degrees are in Philanthropic Studies and Library Information Science, but her first love has always been writing fiction. She's back with her paranormal Elder Races series under the pseudonym Thea Harrison.
The tale of a young woman who falls for her neighbor after being betrayed by a married man. Despite the ominous title, her damaged trust healed pretty quickly!
Following a heartbreaking relationship, Carrie returns home to her family in Colorado. Her pride has taken a beating, and the hurt still feels raw. The last thing she wants is to get involved with a neighbouring newcomer, but Gabe seems to have a magnetic pull on her and their attraction is electric. After a rocky start, Carrie finds herself trusting in love again. Things get interesting when her old flame shows up wanting her back.
This is one of Amanda Carpenters first books, and though not as emotionally intense as her later stories for Presents, this one is compelling. Carrie is a strong woman who quickly learns how to pick herself up. Gabe has a strong protective side that makes Carrie feel cherished. I enjoyed reading their journey to HEA very much.
Heroine (23) is grizzly because a man she was seeing in Chicago turned out to be married. She goes home for a month to Colorado and meets the hero (30s), who is a neighbour, does some work for him as a photographer and goes on a couple of dates. He has an OW interested in him (not sure if they were dating?) and her boyfriend turns up promising to get a divorce. Obviously she picks the hot neighbour and they plan to marry one her dad gets out of hospital - and then travel the world taking photos…or somesuch. I was surprised that this was written by the same author as The Great Escape, as this heroine lacks charm and this hero is more interested in his job. Oh well, it’s nice enough.

Not as angsty as it sounds. The family stuff was jumbled and didn’t really add much to the story (and there were so many of them! And none of them very memorable) and her past/hang ups weren’t all that dramatic.
But the two of them had sparks and I loved all the photography stuff. I think this was an early HP effort from the author so she quite hadn’t gotten the hang of all the melodrama needed yet, haha.
Believing she had met the man of her dreams, Carrie gave her all to Neil only to have it shattered when he revealed a secret he was hiding from her. Nursing her wounds she heads back to Colorado, swearing off men and bumping heads with a man who just moved to town. Gabe Jackson is mysterious and even though Carrie has no interest in another relationship, she can't seem to stay away. Although Gabe is good at everything he does, communicating with Carrie isn't quite as easy as he hoped. There is passion between them but will they be able to figure out what they want from one another before it is too late.
