“How the person you once felt the safest with could become the cause of your nightmares.”

This story follows along Claire Johnson after she and her husband, Dave, moves to his hometown Cliff Falls. In a town covered in fog, her husband is the new lead detective in town, and she is struggling to feel at home. But small towns, lead to small town people who want to know all about the newest residency. Which is how Claire meet Darcy and Darcy really lives up to small town hospitality by inviting Claire over for drinks the first time she meets her. There Claire is introduced to Vivian and Jamie, two of Darcy’s friends since school. But it wasn’t until the second time Claire was left hanging out with Darcy and Vivian where the true mystery of the town is spoken about. This is when she learns about a murder of a teacher that happened twenty years prior, an arrest was made but they girls didn’t believe it could have been him. He was Darcy’s high school sweetheart, they believed he couldn’t do something like that. Especially when the evidence made no sense, with that began a new obsess that Claire dives right into. She researched it, noticing nothing made sense. So, she set to find out what really happened. But what she discovers is worse than she could ever imagine.

I loved this story so much! The moment I picked up this book, I couldn’t put it down. I was hooked with the mystery. Wondering who to trust in a town where the fog was so thick you couldn’t see much in front of you. In a town where the biggest thing to ever happen was swept under the rug in hopes for the town to feel safe. But would anyone truly feel safe when the true murder is still on the loose. With no idea who to trust in this story, I was constantly question everyone throughout the story except innocent Jamie. She truly was the only one I trusted. I loved the anticipation while waiting for what was going to happen next when the truth unfolded. It was a wild ride, and I loved every minute of it!
Thank you, L.C. McKenna for sending me this book, even if it was for a giveaway, I loved being able to read this! Reading for the first time while being able to annotate every little detail as I break down the case myself was amazing!

This was a fun short suspense/thriller book! Claire and her husband Dave Johnson move from Tampa to Dave's old hometown in Cliff Falls, after he accepts a job as a police detective there. The town is always filled with a fog, but also secrets. Claire finds out from the neighbors that it is coming up on the 20th anniversary of a killing of a teacher, and Claire's new friend Darcy's high school sweetheart/love of her life has been convicted of the murder, even without much evidence. Claire decides to dig deeper to try and prove Rays innocence, but she uncovers so much more! Love the twists in this story highly recommend!

3.5 stars. This was a fun little read. Mildly predictable, but still exciting. My big complaint is the number of sentences that started with “I”. I think maybe 60+% of sentences started with that and it started to gnaw on my brain about 40% through the read. Super quick, good to add when you don’t have a lot of time but want something interesting.

I had some suspicious thoughts during the book but definitely did not see the past friendship/foe thing about to happen. Small town or big city - the secrets, lies, drama, tragedies all eventually start to surface. Sometimes a house is not a home.

It’s alright. The writing is well done, but the story is predictable and the ending feels very rushed.
