Danger on His Doorstep

Rate this book
Honey “Danger” Thibault is floundering in unfamiliar attracted to a man. Not that males aren’t her preference, but she’s been treated so despicably by the men who have been in her life, she’s sworn off the opposite sex, forever. Or so she thinks. The cop she’s become fixated on is a good guy. She’s sure of it. From what she’s observed, his whole life is about helping others. But if what she’s feeling is an actual crush, how does she move forward with that? Lacking experience, she puts her muscle where her mouth is, and throws herself into the middle of a bar brawl he’s trying to break up. Maybe her fighting prowess will make the handsome officer take notice. It could be his near concussion—having been beaned by a bar stool—that has something to do with Mac Mantrose suddenly noticing the strawberry-blonde, pocket-hell-cat who comes to his aid. He knows her, after all. She’s part of a group he’s become friendly with out at Safety Tulaine’s farm. He kicks himself when, with a slip of the tongue, he calls her beautiful. Mac sees skepticism instantly flaring up in her pretty brown eyes, but he’s not taking it back. She’s freaking gorgeous. How had he not noticed that before? It defies his past experiences, but this shy conundrum of a woman just does something for him.

Danger and Mac have been watching and dreaming of each other for a long time. Neither one of them sure if the feeling is mutual or not, neither one wanting to ruin the friendship they have found with each other.
Mac is sure he wants a little Danger in his life but has to walk carefully so he does not scare her away.
Danger has finally found the man of her dreams but the past comes back to haunt her once again.
All she wants is a normal life like the rest of her friends. A life of love, trust, laughter and family isn't to much to wish for is it?
Mac knows he is strong but with them together they can weather any storm that comes their way.
This story has so many feels. You will laugh, cry and dream of finding a love so true.
There isn't enough stars for me to give this book.

I loved this book! I just hate to think it may be the last in this series? What an amazing bunch of guys and ladies have been met and followed through the upheaval of their lives and then meeting "the one" who just happens to have some disturbing secrets in their past as well. I love how they are finally able to open up and tell their hidden secrets to the one that they have fallen in love with....although in Danger's case, she has a very hard time trying to decide if she really does love Mac because.....she has never been loved before....by anyone.
I really wanted to hunt down her father and give him a taste of his own medicine....and we find out so much more about this jerk as time goes on. Wow.....she went through so much! Thank goodness she met someone like Mac. You just have to love him....he is so loving and patient.
I guess what I need to say is just READ the book....as a matter of fact, READ ALL of the books 1-9 of Heroes in Hardhats by LJ Vickery. You certainly won't regret it!!
Then read all of the others as well!

Enjoyed the books I have read in this series. What I enjoyed was that it was a different take on former military personnel coming home and what to do with their life now. Safety gathered a small group to start building homes for themselves first and then offer them to other veterans. They were all wounded in different ways. Tex became Safety Tullane’s Hiring Department Manager. Safety needed an electrician, Tex sent Circus. Circus, lost her hand, has a state-of-the-art myoeletric prosthetic arm. In “Danger on His Doorstep”, Tex has sent Danger who is a plumber. Lennie and Danger arrived together. Lennie’s story is in #8, “His Truly”.
What stands out for me in this book is the bar brawl with Mac as the Bouncer. Danger’s comments were so funny to me. Another completely different emotion was when Danger met Mac’s mother. This is so wonderful I don’t have the words to explain it.
LJ Vickery displays a lot of talent in the way the plots unfold. The sense of family between the group was heartwarming. Recommend this series. Each book was different from each other. Hope you laugh and cry through this series like I did.

Danger\Honey finds out what love is

Mac and Danger had been eyeing each other up for a year or so. Neither realizing they were interested in the other in more than a platonic way. Danger hid her past from the crew and finally found her match in Mac when opening up had to happen. Past meets present and they all work together to make sure Danger knew she had lots of love and support.

It had potential, but....

The story had potential but... where to begin? When the author starts off mistaking soldiers for Marines, at Camp Lejeune of all places it's bad. Then add in spelling errors galore, words that don't really exist, mistaking prone for supine, and screwing up National Guard rank structure, well, it just goes downhill at light speed. LJ - get an editor and a proof reader. It can only help.

What a way to end a series

Saving the best till last doesn't feel a good summary, the book is fantastic, but the whole series has been! Loved Danger and Mac's story, real heart string tugging stuff. The cat was a star, the growing farm crew amazing, I'm sorry this is it, but hopefully we'll get to meet/catch up down the road, plus I'm sure Tec will pop up elsewhere.

Another great read. I haven't read a book yet by Ms. Vickery that I haven't enjoyed. The characters are great. Danger is dangerous but she also cares. Once you start reading these books you are hooked.
I was given an advanced reader copy and I voluntarily leave this review.

Can Mac sneak into the emotional walls of Danger and help with her PTSD.

I liked the way the Author explained the young man with a mental illness that lets you the reader route for a good outcome.

Intense

A father that never treated Danger well, to rape and the loss of a baby, to finding Mac who loved, to the conclusion of the nightmare of her past, all ends well. Great story and characters one loves.

worth the wait

I have wondered about Dangers story. I knew it would be something heartbreaking and that she would need an incredible partner and I was not disappointed.

Fabulous Series

I loved books 1-8 but was skeptical of book 9. However, I pushed on and it ended up being my favorite.
