Galynn Brytshul is a beggar and wastrel, languishing on the streets after a run of poor luck. With no money, even the magick of his clothing is running out, and spells are so very expensive that he has fallen into despair. A priest from the Church of OTIDS brings him an inheritance from a father Galynn has never met, but fate has yet again poisoned his good fortune, for he is hunted by both the aristocracy of his enchanted world, and by the leaders of the Church, who fear the terrible truth his deceased father had discovered to his own demise. Reluctantly, Galynn must now struggle to survive, and put all his father’s clues together, for the sake of humanity, and his own pocket. Wizardry and peril surround him, and he must use all his nefarious skills to gain his revenge, and pinch some coins from those who hunt him.
David has woven an intricate tale that takes us from the mean streets to the heights of power. With a mix of sardonic wisdom, disbelief, and unknown strength, our hero provides a tableau on which we can reflect our own lives.
As with all of the books by Mr. Gulotta, there’s myriad twists and turns to follow. A great read filled with fantastical characters and stories. Kudos, sir!
