The scene is set, the cast assembles for a summer soiree to die for – quite literally in this case.
When Flora decides to hire a Murder Mystery troupe to bring a touch of Italian glamour to The Rise, she intends to transport her guests to the Amalfi coast for an evening of spritz and sleuthing.
Never ones to turn down an opportunity for eccentric excitement, the villagers transform themselves… Movie stars, mobsters, even a motor racing legend.
It’s all fun and games until someone is actually murdered.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Baker’s Rise without Reggie wanting a pizza the action, or several puns that are decidedly pasta their sell by date!
Packed with twists and turns, colourful characters and a splash of glitz and glamour, this new mystery will certainly leave you hungry for more!
R. A. Hutchins is a British author of both cosy murder mysteries and even cosier romance. What her books all share in common, though, is a strong sense of place and strength of community as well as an endearing cast of characters. In Rachel's contemporary romance, you can normally find themes of hope and new beginnings, loss and mental health, though her characters are always guaranteed their happily ever after and her stories have more than a splash of heady romance! Rachel's favourite hobbies are reading, walking along the beach with her family, visiting new places, and seeing her flowers grow in the spring and summer months. Rachel particularly enjoys going out for coffee and cake when it also involves catching up with good friends. Now living in northeast England, Rachel has fond memories of the nine years she spent in Scotland.

Another great book in the Baker's Rise Mysteries series. I loved the Italian theme in this one (and the delicious cannoli!). We rejoined all of our favourite characters as they congregated for an Italian-themed murder mystery. However, things don't go to plan as a real body is discovered! I loved how the usual cast pulled together to solve the mystery. I think this was one of the easier mysteries to guess before the plot unravelled - but it didn't deter my enjoyment! The ending was simply heartwarming and I can't wait to rejoin the characters in the next book.
The 9th book in this very readable cozy mystery series, sees Flora organise murder mystery evening at The Rise (The Manor House she owns) based on an Italian theme. Her housekeeper, Genevieve is settling in well, as is the interim vicar, Rev. Cartwright as the Marshall family are taking a short break to allow Sally to recover.
The evening seemed to be going well, but then a body is found; a murder did occur, but not the one which was supposed to happen! Adam seems to be drawn into the investigation as he knows the investigators from his time in the force. It seems there can't be an event in Bakers Rise without someone getting killed!
Reggie the parrot is his usual humorous self, having picked up some Italian phrases along the way. He certainly provides some funny interludes in the story.
Will Flora and Adam ever get to be foster parents and live a quiet, normal life together?
The books are all standalone cozy mysteries which are easily read in a few hours. The books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.
I've now read all the books released in this series so far (as at June 2023) so I'll start the books in the spin off series set in Lillymouth, (from book 7 in this series).
I adore this series! Each book has its own twists and this one had me changing my mind on whodunit several times. Lots of suspects until Flora realizes the truth. Reggie and Adam are there along with the rest of the village. Most of the village at least. There were a few I actually was hoping would be carted off by McArthur and her new partner. And a sweet addition for Flora and Adam at the end. Only one left in the series.
