How far would you go to save your brother?

It’s been six months since all of the lower orbital satellites crashed to Earth. Akule Lopez has waited through every one of those days...waited to see her brother arrive home in Alpine.

Now she’s done waiting. Winter has fallen across the desolate Texas landscape. Rumors of war and insurrection abound. Akule doesn’t know how she’ll get from Alpine to Dallas. She doesn’t even know that her brother is still there. But she does know that she’s going to find out.

Her father doesn’t want her to go, but Akule isn’t a child anymore. She doesn’t need her father’s permission. She also understands that if she goes, if she dies in the attempt, then her father will have lost both of his children. She won’t let that happen. If it’s the last thing she ever does, she will find Paco and bring him home.

What sacrifice is too big, when it seems your life has been draped in a Veil of Destruction?

Veil of Destruction ( Kessler Effect #3 )
Vannetta Chapman
Veil of Destruction is book three in the Kessler Effect series. I love a book when it grabs you at the start and don’t let go till the end. This is just what Vannetta Chapman did. This is a dystopian series. I think this was the best series yet. Family, Bravery, the unknown, and suspense. Loved the story, it was well written. The characters were well developed.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are mine.

While reading Veil of Destruction, I found the possibilities of life and civilization post-massive world wide destruction fleshed out in stark reality that causes me to pause and pray that this does not befall mankind.

Often dystopian or post-apocalyptic stories involve horrific natural disasters - earthquakes, floods, fires, meteors colliding with Earth. In this series the disaster that has shut down the world as people know it was due to the Kessler Effect - a complete shutdown of the Earth's satellites and subsequent electric grid closing and technology use ending. This means no water, no electricity, no sanitation facilities, no heat, no food production. It means chaos and discord.

In VEIL OF DESTRUCTION a group of 3 from the small University town of Alpine strike out through the barrenness that is Texas to find family that was in the big city of Dallas. They cautiously skirt any area that might have marauding gangs and areas of violence.

The pace of the storyline is steady as is the group's progress through the barrenness. They do encounter goodwill and help but they also find meanness and greed.

Their final encounter almost costs them dearly.

What I'm looking forward to in the next book in the series, Veil of Stillness..... The old man Joshua - who is he and his story ... The settling into life with daily hardships.... The possibility of overcoming the loss of societies' amenities lost in the June 6 event.

As usual, the author tells a good story that is clean, decent, and pleasant reading.

I received a complimentary copy to facilitate a review. Opinions are mine, alone and are freely given.

Do you read dystopian/apocalyptic books? Some people find them depressing. Me, I see hope in them. Yeah, horrible things happen, but people are resilient. People learn to survive. I read-and love-dystopians for that reason, but also to learn from them. We don't know what's going to happen in the future. We prepare for the worst and hope for the best. And part of preparing, in my mind, is reading this genre. I learn what things to keep an eye out for, what things could be good for trading, what things are good for medicinal use.

This book is a continuation of the town of Alpine, TX and its inhabitants. I like Akule; she's grown a lot through this series. I enjoyed watching her come into her own in this book. I saw everything through her eyes, felt the cold, the sleet, the fear. Also, tried to imagine how to prepare my children to face the what-ifs presented in this book.

You can never be too careful. Pick up this series and accidentally learn something new today. You never know what's going to happen...

Veil of Destruction is the third book in Vannetta Chapman's Kessler Effect dystopian series.  The book continues the story of the residents of Alpine, Texas following the event which left them on their own in a world without modern communications, power, or all the resources we have come to take for granted.  This volume focuses on Akule Lopez, her father, Keme Lopez, and friend Dylan Spencer's quest to find Akule's brother and his family and bring them home to Alpine.  This is another great read by Vannetta Chapman, who writes wonderful books in a wide range of genres.
Veil of Destruction is suspenseful and very difficult to put down.  All of the books in this series have wonderful characters that you will come to care about.  Even the minor characters who make very brief appearances are well fleshed out.  While some people in this post-apocalyptic world resorted to selfish and criminal behavior, I loved that others came together for the good of the community, willingly making sacrifices and working together so that everyone has a chance to survive and hope for a better future.  The book is filled with family, friends, and new acquaintances who become family through shared hardships and trials.  I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Be sure to pick up your copy when it is released on May 25, 2023.  I was given a copy of Veil of Destruction by the author. I was not required to give a positive review.   All opinions are my own.

Veil of Destruction may be the third book in the Kessler Effect Series, but it was the first one that I have read. With that said yes, it can stand alone.

This book apparently does pick up with the story of the people of Alpine Texas after the unthinkable happened on June 6th. (Since I have not read the prior books I am not sure of the year). The day that the grid fell cutting them off from the rest of the world. No power, no heat, no way to get more food or supplies. Since the satellites had fell to Earth there was no way to communicate cell phones didn't work any more.

The focus of this story was the Lopez family and their journey to the Dallas area to reach Paco's family and to hopefully bring them back to Alpine. This would not be an easy journey. As in any post apocalyptic story goes there are good people, bad people, greedy people and of course the worst of the worst in power! Cities turned on each other for supplies and food. Who could they trust on the way? Would they find Paco and his family? If so, would they all make it back to Alpine safely? Would they be the same when and if they return? You will not get any spoilers from me, you will have to read the book for yourself.

I will say that Vannetta Chapman did her research on this and it shows. The story is good, really good. In fact I purchased the prior books today. Yeah it is THAT good!

I have been reading Vannetta Chapman's books since 2012. I started with the Amish stories and then when she ventured into other genres I purchased them (but they are still in my to be read pile). This is the first of any of her dystopian or darker books that I have read, but I did enjoy it.

I did receive an advanced copy from the author in return for my HONEST review good or bad. This is my honest review. i could have left a one sentence review like this:

RUN DON'T WALK TO THE BOOKSTORE ON MAY 25th TO PURCHASE THIS ONE OR PRE-ORDER IT NOW!

Veil of Destruction by Vannetta Chapman has been a different type of book that I usually read of her books. I usually read 'Vannetta Chapman Amish books' and I love them very much. 'Veil of Destruction' has been a interesting book. And a story that will make you wonder what things would be like in our world if things turned out to be as described in this book.

This is a intriguing and mind-blowing story. Think of everything in our world that works to make life livable and easier. Then take all of that away. No electricity, no heat, no electronics, no gas for cars or heating, stores closed, and in a lot of places no law. People having to fight for food, their homes, and for keeping their family together.

We have Akule Lopez, her father, Keme Lopez, and friend Dylan Spencer set out to find Paco "Akule's brother" and his family and bring them back to Alpine where they live. During their trip they meet up with many different type of people. They had to do their best at reading people, watch each others back and use their strengths and abilities to get through it all. Through a lot of twists and turns, they are led through a journey of suspense and drama. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

This has to be one of the most realistic books in this genre that I've read. The characters, their actions, and the situations they found themselves in all felt so authentic. I've lived in West Texas my whole life, so I was very familiar with the landscape, cities, and route the characters took to find Paco and his family. I think because I knew the places, it made it feel all the more real. There were times when I forgot I was reading. I was so immersed in the story that I began to wonder how my family, who lives in one of the towns mentioned, was faring, lol.

I really liked Akule, Dylan, and Keme. I admired Keme's level-headedness, Dylan's positive outlook, and Akule's determination and bravery to find Paco and his family and bring them back home. They knew it was going to be a long and dangerous journey, but they weren't going to let anything stop them. They made a great team.

Even though this is book three in the series, it stands alone just fine. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys post-apocalyptic fiction. I'm really looking forward to the next one.

I received an advanced copy of this book via BookSirens and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Wow - another great cardio workout from Vannetta Chapman! I really looked forward to this third book and it sure met my expectations. I love the theme of family and community woven throughout this dystopian series. It’s what makes Alpine (and our own lives) work…though it also exacts the highest price. Keme, Akule, and Dylan risk their lives to try to rescue Paco and his family in Dallas. I felt the danger and exhaustion, the cold and the hunger, right along with them. I, like them, I made a new friend in Joshua. I can’t wait to see how this “old guy who knows things” contributes in the fourth and final book. This book starts with a dream and ends with a vision; too mystical for me, but it suits this world where so many things have changed. Read it and see if you don’t agree!

This is book #3 in the series by Vannetta Chapman. This series is about the collapse of our society as we know it and how people adapt to the new world. This book is action packed. It's about survival, family (both blood and people that become family), perseverance, change and adaptation. I highly recommend this book, series and author.

Loved it

Absolutely love this series. I really grew to care about these characters. At one point, I was afraid to continue reading because I didn't want anything else bad to happen to these people. That was momentary & I'm so glad I finished book 3. Looking forward to book 4. Looking forward to reading more by this author.

Surviving the Kessler affect.

Akule, had a Dream and it made her realize to leave Alpine and find her brother Paco, and his wife Claire. And of course the 2 boys. Her Dad could not let her go alone. Dylan has been in Love with Akule since school and he told her that he was going too. She didnt want him to go, but its a good thing he did.

It’s a story of struggle and hope set against a failure of the power grid worldwide. Citizens of Alpine have coped against the outside world and othe challenges to eke out an extraordinary existence in tough times. Akule and her father Keme go in search of her brother and his family sling with a friend named Dylan. Their exploits on their travel to Dslass make for good reading. Book can be read separately from the series

Book 3 in the Kessler Effect series is another 5 star winner from the magnificent mind of Vannetta Chapman. When I think this series cannot possibly get better, Vannetta sits down puts her fingers on the keyboard and produces magic. This is now my favorite of the three.....I love them all. I love how this book took us out of Alpine and showed us the devastation and destruction of Texas. I lived in Dallas and I cannot imagine it on fire. The characters are wonderful and inspiring. The bad boys are really not so bad. I wonder if June 6th hadn't happened if the bad characters would be bad or it was the circumstances that changed them. Vannetta, thank you for bringing this dystopian apocalyptic series to us. A genre I claimed not to like. I say this in every review of your books that I write - Vannetta could take a grocery list or laundry list and it would be a number one bestseller. She really does have a magic mind. For those of you who have never tried dystopian apocalyptic fiction please read this series and I bet you will love it as much as I do. I am waiting excitedly for the next in the series and thank you Vannetta Chapman for providing me with an ARC of this book for which the above are my true feelings.

Akule has a recurring dream and knows that she needs to go to Dallas to find her brother. It's only 500 miles, but in the new dystopian environment, the journey will be fraught with unknowns and danger. Her father, Keme, knows that he must go with her. So they pack the supplies that their small town can spare and prepare to leave. Dylan went to school with Akule. He has always had a crush on her, but more than that, he has always wanted to leave their small town. He has stayed in town to help his mother.

He knows that a group of 3 will have a better chance of success than 2. So the three of them set off in the cold, desolate winter. They are met with danger from gangs, but they also find good people to help.

This is an interesting read on how things would change if we lost all our satellites. The evil people will fight to control the good people. The good people will have to fight to maintain their towns. You will have a hard time putting this book down. Great book that kept me on the edge of my seat.

The third book in the post-apocalyptic, dystopian world where everything we know as normal just isn't anymore: power, communication, heat, and ability to get more supplies. The author writes this book with great descriptions and some realism, you can actually see how some of the things in this book can happen. We have our major protagonist, Akule Lopez, her father, Keme Lopez, and school friend Dylan Spencer, who always wanted to leave their small town and also had a crush on Akule. This trio set out to find Paco and his family, Akule's brother and bring them back to Alpine. Along their way they meet up with many characters, some good and some bad and have to use their wits and abilities to get through it all. With lots of suspense, twists and turns, we are led through their journey. This is a really well written dystopian novel that keeps you turning pages until the end. I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

I received an ARC through "Booksirens" and I am leaving an honest review.

This story begins with Akule talking with Tanda. the sheriff and her aunt, telling her that she was going to go to Dallas to find her brother Paco and is family. Tanda told Akule that she would go with Akule to speak with Akule's father, Keme. Keme agreed, but gave her one condition, he would go too. It was decided and they would head out in a couple of days. When it came time for them to leave, Dylan told them he was going as well.

Read along and discover what events happened as they journeyed to Dallas and who they met along the way who helped ot tried to stop them. Learn what they discovered when they arrived in the Dallas. Meet Joshua who helped the three find Paco and his family and how important he was in their return trip.

This book is a great continuation in the series and points out how different things would be and what changes would be made to survive.

I have read each of the Kessler Effect books so far and that has been an amazing tale! I have become a fan of dystopian thanks to this author. This was a book that makes you think of what could happen and how would you survive under these circumstances. This book has no dull moments. It is hard to imagine a world that has come under such a situation as to have no communication, and all that we have come to accept as normal life. I found it interesting how they had to depend on one another and how they had to determine who could be trusted and who was not to be trusted.
OK, this was a great read. And I don't want to give too much away, so am just saying, you will not be sorry that you read this. The author has talent!

Veil of Destruction is the third book in Vannetta Chapman's Kessler Effect dystopian series. Each story is better than the last--and the first two were really good! Chapman's forte is creating lovable characters we root for as they face challenges we can't even begin to imagine. I loved Akule Lopez and her prickly relationship with her dad Keme. And her growing feelings for Dylan, who insists on tagging along as they venture out into a dangerous new world to find Akule's brother and his family. This is a dystopian/suspense/adventure series but ultimately it's about family and how bonds are strengthened in seasons of extreme trial and tribulation. Chapman also makes the post-apocalyptic world so real I find myself wondering if I should be stockpiling water, toilet paper, nonperishable foods, and medical supplies. Seriously. Needless to say, I was thrilled to realize there's a fourth book in this series. I find I'm not ready to say goodbye to Tanda, Akule, Keme, and the other folks living in Alpine, Texas. See y'all next time.

You know, this was an exciting and different read for me. What I'd call an excellent adventure!
As I was reading this book, it brought to mind an event that will happen when Jesus comes back.
What it might be like for those that will be left behind. I, of course, won't be here to see what happens. I'll be at home with my Lord.
I liked old Joshua cause he knew when the weather changed, just like I do. Hurting bones ain't no fun!
I finished this book in a day because it was so good!
I love anything this author writes. Most especially her Amish fiction!
Here's a quote that I liked;
He'd heard Abuela say that once that they each walked a path decided by the Creator even before they were born.
“The Creator knows your path, Keme, even when you don’t.”

Would you change anything about your life decisions if you knew the world would change in an instant? This story is full of danger, concern for the unknown, questions that may or may not have answers, intrigue, dedication to family and friends, and hope for the future. From the first page, author Vannetta Chapman takes the reader into a world where safety, provisions, medicines, and security are at risk for everyone. This one kept me on "the edge of my seat". I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.

This is one of those books (series) that sticks to your GUT! You can't put it down, think about it when you're not reading it, and sticks with you long after you finish it! I drive near the area where part of the book takes place and I always picture what I've read in the book! What an amazing series where the characters feel like they are family, you cheer them on, feel their emotions and think about them, waiting until the next book comes out! Vannetta Chapman is a talented writer and anything she puts out there, I have to get my hands on!
