Rose suffers from phobophobia, the fear of fear. On the windowless, thirty-second floor of the Rampion Garden Towers, Rose lives in complete solitude. With a skewed look at the outside via internet and television, Rose is frightened of that world.
Oliver needs to get away from the stress of his job. When the only penthouse suite with an exclusive rooftop putting green opens up at the Rampion Garden Towers, he snatches it up. It's the only condo in the city with its own rooftop putting green.
Curious about the neighboring, windowless shut-in, Oliver is stunned when his wayward golf ball hits a hidden skylight in the mysterious neighbors rooftop patio.
When these two heart collide, in the most unconventional way, Oliver is determined to help Rose experience the world.
The Tower Captive is an interesting, modernized retelling of Rapunzel. Rose is watched almost constantly through video cameras, and her companions consist of her cat Kitten and Ruby her home-monitoring system. She never leaves her home or touches another human. Things start to change when Oliver moves into the other penthouse condo that shares a wall with Rose's. I loved Oliver's determination to help Rose and his sensitivity about her situation. His creative ideas to bring the world to Rose are some of the most romantic things that I've read. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy fairy tale retellings and to readers of clean romance. I received a complimentary copy and am sharing my opinion of this well-written book.
The Tower Captive offers a sweet and expressive take on the Rapunzel tale. Rose’s distress about the outdoor world felt so real, and I related to her from the start. Tayla Alexandra did a great job showing how challenging it can be to face your fears, while also demonstrating how love and support can truly make a difference.
Oliver was precisely what Rose needed─kind, funny, and quietly strong. I loved how their relationship advanced naturally, little by little, and their connection seemed sincere. I kept rooting for them throughout the story.
The ending was just right, and the epilogue wrapped everything up nicely. Seeing how far Rose had come and how she was now helping others was so inspiring. This book is a lovely, hopeful story that stays with you.
Rose had been locked in a tower for 10 years because she was weighed down by fear. What about us? Have we been so frozen by fear that we chose to stay locked in a prison of our own making? I liked the reference to Peter stepping out of the boat. What a great love story, and an awesome message! Very well done, as always!
When I started reading I thought Rose was being held captive like Rapunzel. But that is not the case with this retelling. It is completely different & I think this story is spectacular. I did nothing but read the story this afternoon until I finished it. I had to learn if it had a "happy ending". You have to read it to find out the answer to that statement but I loved this story.
A story of true perseverance and overwhelming obstacles as well as severe case of PTSD from a gruesome crime! As long as you try everyday and have a supportive system in place you can overcome even the worst odds!
