Ancient doors not only reveal strange new worlds, but also awaken primeval evil.
Emmeline Augury jumps into the portal narrowly escaping from the clutches of the Imperial Command and the Orias. But the portal opens into the 21st Century. Gripped by fear that she could change the timeline, she frantically locates the second piece only to discover it has been taken by one of the most powerful men in New York. Running out of options, she forges a plan which, if successful, will protect the timeline. But if she fails, all hell will break loose.
In the 24th century, Titan's and Prometheus’s jump has thrown them in the path of an inferno, to a system governed by a strange and powerful Sphere. Narrowly escaping that fate, Commander Anastasia Waters figures out that the Sphere might be at the heart of the mystery of the phantom asteroids. It holds many secrets including the jump point closest to Earth. But it is home to primeval evil and boarding the Sphere might cost her more than she bargained for.
While the crews of Titan and Prometheus try to find a jump point closer to home, Emmeline secures the artifact. But catastrophe strikes when the Orias queen unleashes her wrath, shaking Emmeline to her core and burning everything in its wake.
Trying to reach for the impossible, are like Icarus. They might fly, but their wings might just melt.
The way I write and approach research has been shaped (bless me!) by many incredible people. These individuals can be grouped into three categories: researchers, authors, and mentors. They’ve created websites, shared their struggles through blogs, published their work, and, from these varied sources, I’ve learned so much. Their journeys have inspired me in countless ways, and now, I feel it’s my turn to pay it forward. 😊
About Me
Born and raised in India, I wrote whenever I could—even after becoming a doctor. Writing was my savior during tough times, though it always remained just a hobby. Later, I moved to Australia to further my research and complete a PhD in Biomedical Sciences.
People often say, “You change after completing your PhD.” I certainly have. Suddenly (don’t ask me why!), I feel a strong urge to write more books and share my stories with the world. I’ve also discovered a deep passion for helping others develop their research and creative skills—something that has become one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life.
I'm a long time fan of Ahedi, and a die-hard fan of this series. I honestly don't think Ahedi could disappoint me at this point. I'll do my best to keep my review brief because otherwise, I could ramble for hours.
I love the fact that this reads like I'm watching a TV show. We head hop from one story line to the next, from one century to another, from one GALAXY to another, and it's so seamless. The transitions nearly always work, and I was never, ever confused about whose POV I was in. Since it's told in a 3rd person omniscient point of view, you don't have to worry about voices being unique, but there was a clear enough line drawn that I wasn't confused.
I also really, really enjoy that I miss the characters when they aren't on the page. I feel as though I've bonded with Emmeline (and Ana and Mykel) over these three books. When I was reading another storyline, I was straight up worried about HER. It takes incredible skill for an author to craft characters that readers connect with on that deep of a level. I beleive Ahedi has masterfully done that through this series.
The last thing I liked about this third book was the added science. I won't pretend to understand all of the lingo, but the jargon adds believability. I've said it before, and I'll say it again--there's something nostalgic about not understanding space lingo to me, lol. It makes me feel like I'm watching Star Trek with my dad.
H.G. Ahedi does it again by weaving an exceptionally written novel with time travel, physics, astrophysics and sci fi to create a knock out novel, the perfect addition to her series. The characters and settings are believable and you are immersed in the struggles, disappointments, and triumphs of the characters. If you like Battlestar Galactica-type stories, you'll love this series!
What I Did Like: +Science kept in science fiction. As it was in the previous books, the author kept some of the science in the books. It’s always nice to have that as it lends an air of realism to the story. +Good characters are back. At this point in the series you have your favorites and can really enjoy their part of the story. +Well written multi-POV. You jump from character to character yet the jumps aren’t confusing. Instead, they keep the story moving.
Who Should Read This One: -Scifi fans who like science left in the story, multiPOV books, and high stakes.
Ahedi once again delivers an engaging story across galaxies and, this time, across time. It is very easy to get caught up in the world Ahedi has created and for the reader to develop an affinity for several of the characters. Each place and period is its own unique story that has you racing from chapter to chapter to discover what happens next. This one ends on a cliffhanger. I can only say I look forward to the sequel. Hurry up, Ahedi!
An interesting thriller that takes place in space and focuses on Emmeline trying to protect the timeline. Titans and Prometheus' jump has caused them to go an unexpected route. It has a lot of action, time travel, and more. It's an excellent science fiction series. It would make a great movie too.
Icarus, the third in the Realm series is another rollercoaster read. There are so many threads and characters, each with their own adventures but Ahedi still manages to make it all intertwine and intersect. They all form part of a whole, everyone still looking for answers. I am most immersed in Emmeline’s story, who is still looking for the mysterious artefact that promises power and answers. This time Emmeline ends up time travelling to our recent times and gets mixed up with Roumoult story, who has happened to stumble across a strange artefact in one of his expeditions. It’s all connected, but how? Meanwhile excitement and danger is present in space with some scary discoveries. I do love all the different story lines, and some mind blowing revelations occur in this book, but a little bit inside me wanted a few more clues, a few more revelations, some answers to satisfy my need to know. As it is, the ending is not an ending and sets us up for another part of the saga, which of course is to be expected in a series!
This series gets better with each book. The twists and turns never stop. Important secrets come to light and some of the characters are changed forever. This book has it all. High speed action. Time travel. Alien monsters. Reality bending physics. It reminds me of Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica. I can't wait for the next one. Emmaline is a badass.
In Icarus, Author Ahedi has merged the worlds of her Realm Sci/Fi series with her Cranston Mysteries Series. Emmeline Augury has traveled back in time, and the result is a compelling tale of dual realities that is even more fascinating than before! The story ends on a cliff-hanger, so you will definitely be anxious to read the next installment of this fantastic series! This is a taut story that held my interest throughout. I hope Ahedi is a swift writer!
Dive into a tale of ancient doors and cosmic mysteries as we unravel the intricacies of "Icarus" by H.G. Ahedi. With its captivating premise and rich storytelling, this fictional work takes us on a journey that stretches across centuries and dimensions, weaving a narrative that blends suspense, adventure, and primeval evil.
The story introduces us to Emmeline Augury, who bravely leaps into a portal, escaping the clutches of the Imperial Command and the Orias. However, her escape takes a peculiar turn as she lands in the 21st century, haunted by the fear of altering the timeline. The urgency of her mission becomes palpable as she races against time to retrieve a missing artifact, realizing that the fate of the world hangs in the balance. Ahedi masterfully crafts a suspenseful plot that keeps readers on the edge of their seats, as Emmeline's efforts could either protect or unravel the fabric of reality.
In parallel, Commander Anastasia Waters and her crew navigate the 24th century, encountering challenges that lead them to a mysterious and powerful Sphere. This enigmatic entity holds secrets, including the key to the phantom asteroids and a jump point near Earth. Yet, the Sphere also harbors a malevolent force, creating a tension that adds layers to the narrative. As the two storylines converge, the novel explores themes of sacrifice, destiny, and the consequences of wielding power.
Ahedi's writing style is dynamic and immersive, allowing readers to seamlessly transition between different time periods and character perspectives. The characters themselves are vividly portrayed, each with their motivations, fears, and ambitions. While the plot's complexity adds depth to the story, it occasionally veers towards overwhelming intricacies.
The emotional impact of "Icarus" is undeniable, with moments of tension, loss, and triumph evoking genuine reactions. The strength of the book lies in its ability to create a sense of urgency and anticipation that propels the reader forward.
However, the plot's intricacy may occasionally overshadow character development, leaving some personas feeling underexplored. Despite this, the novel's strengths in world-building, suspense, and emotional engagement make it a compelling read.
In the end, "Icarus" is a thrilling journey into the unknown, where characters grapple with their limitations and strive for the extraordinary. H.G. Ahedi's ability to interweave timelines and emotions creates a memorable reading experience, leaving readers pondering the delicate balance between ambition and the consequences of soaring too close to the sun.
Hey there, fellow book lovers! I just finished reading this epic tale and I'm still reeling from the experience! The story follows two strong female leads, Emmeline and Anastasia, as they navigate treacherous landscapes in different timelines.
Emmeline's journey from the 24th century to the 21st century is a wild ride, filled with ancient portals, powerful artifacts, and a dash of time travel. Meanwhile, Anastasia and her crew face off against a mysterious Sphere and primeval evil in a distant corner of the galaxy.
What I loved most about this book is the way the author weaves together these two storylines, creating a thrilling narrative that's hard to put down. The characters are complex and relatable, with flaws and strengths that make them feel real.
I was totally invested in Emmeline's journey, cheering her on as she faced down danger and uncertainty. Anastasia's leadership and strategic thinking inspired me, and I loved seeing her grow and adapt in the face of adversity.
If you enjoy sci-fi, time travel, and strong female leads, this book is a must-read!
Clear your schedule, because once you start reading, you won't want to stop! Trust me, the twists and turns are worth it.
Emmeline, a character standing on the precipice of time, haunted by her past and faced with a terrifying reality in the 21st century. However, while the dialogue with the AI provides necessary exposition, it sometimes borders on being too instructional, which slows the pace slightly. The descriptions of the crumbling asteroid, the mechanical failure, and the panic of the characters are visceral, keeping readers on edge. Adrian’s desperation to save his crew and the ship’s struggle to survive in the hostile environment create a gripping atmosphere. This sci-fi thrill ride masterfully intertwines ancient mystique with futuristic space exploration, hurtling readers through a vortex of time-traveling adventure and cosmic horror. As Emmeline Augury desperately navigates the 21st century to secure a powerful artifact, Commander Anastasia Waters confronts the enigmatic Sphere in a distant future, both women racing against time to prevent catastrophic destruction. With heart-pumping action, mind-bending plot twists, and a richly detailed universe, this narrative expertly balances character-driven drama with epic scope, culminating in a climactic showdown that will leave readers breathless and eagerly anticipating the next installment.
A Sci-Fi Symphony with Time Twists and Cosmic Consequences
Ahedi’s Icarus is nothing short of an ambitious interstellar epic. Weaving timelines, realities, and dimensions with daring fluidity, it delivers a seamless collision between advanced spacefaring futures and modern-day Earth. Emmeline’s journey through time feels personal and urgent, while Commander Waters’ arc expands the cosmic scale with discoveries that are as unsettling as they are intriguing. The Sphere is a masterstroke of mysterious world-building, and the Orias queen is a powerful reminder that evil transcends time. This book doesn’t just tell a story it constructs an experience. The pacing is brisk, the stakes monumental, and the characters, especially Emmeline, linger in your thoughts long after the final page. It’s cerebral, cinematic, and delightfully disorienting. Buckle up you won’t land where you expect.
A Riveting Tale of Time, Courage, and Unforeseen Consequences
It weaves a tapestry of thrilling adventures that traverse time and space, leaving readers captivated from the first page to the last The plot is a symphony of suspense and mystery, as Emmeline Augury finds herself in a precarious situation in the 21st Century. The juxtaposition of themes, from the allure of the unattainable to the dangers of unchecked power, adds depth and resonance to the narrative. The author's world-building is exceptional, crafting vivid landscapes and futuristic technologies that transport readers into the heart of the story. The narrative's exploration of this theme adds depth and contemplation to the story's high-octane action. Whether you're a fan of time travel epics or gripping space odysseys, this novel is a must-read that will keep you hooked until the very end.
The book takes readers on an exhilarating journey where ancient doors unlock both new worlds and ancient malevolence. Emmeline Augury's leap through a portal into the 21st century, escaping the clutches of the Imperial Command and Orias, leads to a frantic quest for a crucial artifact. The stakes rise as she races to prevent a catastrophic timeline disruption.
In the 24th century, Commander Anastasia Waters unravels the mysteries of a powerful Sphere, linked to the enigmatic phantom asteroids. Facing danger and unearthing secrets, she navigates a treacherous path, ultimately connecting with the intertwined narratives.
Overall, I loved the book so much and will recommend it to everyone out there.
This 3rd book reads almost like a few Star Trek TNG episodes with time travel. Except this happens in the 21st/24th century and not in the wild west. Maybe with a drop of Battlestar Galactica too. This story is as much a desire to protect the timeline as well is a story across centuries. I loved the scientific details in this book and how the whole concept of time travel was handled. It isn't easy to keep track of all the elements that might affect a timeline, so kudos to the author. Hmm... now that I've finished the book I wonder what would happen to the Raven as it went through the portal. Oh, did I say that out loud? Just ignore what I said :)
Your Recommendation ~lovely read, loved every bite of it. Your Rating ~4.5 Stars well earnt. Review 005a ~ Jan 2023 Veronica Shaw Disability Inclusion ~ None. Reading Rating ~Great easy read for most. I’ve had to slow myself down with it occasionally to be able to jump from one POV to another. Sometimes due to the odd chapter confusing me with its hers and his, Some were beautifully flowing, the natural Ahedi style and then the odd one would have a few hiccups in. Were you rushing to finish? Encouragement factor ~ Storyline full as always of surprises and a wealth of space knowledge. As a now solid fan of Emmeline and Ana, I found I was hopeful that the next chapter would be elaborating further on their storyline. I am well and truly invested in their future. Recommendation ~ Inspiring for anyone who has the treki bug. Love the plots and multiple storylines. It certainly brings a new dimension of excitement to OutSpace and what can be done with it in a good storyline. Things I wasn’t so keen on ~ As much as I wanted to discover more of the multiple plots I found the length too much. 300-350 pages, for me, is a good length for a novel. Any more and I seem to drop by the wayside and have to keep coming back and doing re: reads to keep on top of it. That’s my brain, not a lack of interest. I found some of the initial 60%. of the book was a little like pulling elastic. It was definitely slower than required. After that, I seemed to wiz through to the end and couldn’t get enough. I really thought this book was going to be the conclusion of the series. So, I had great hopes for the ending. That could have just been my misunderstanding. Still, I did enjoy every bit, just have a look at some of the editing. I always learn so much from reading your books and end up going back through mine for the same issues. Please write the next one soon, I really need to know what the ending will be. Thanks again H.G for a great book. Overall Rating: 4.5 / 5
The exploration of time travel, celestial bodies, and the realm of science enriches the narrative, highlighting the vastness of existence. The characters' intricate journeys and the gradual build towards the climactic moments showcase the author's skill in crafting an immersive world.
