really good book, though i've been reading this off and on since last fall due to 2019 being... a thing. not a fun year which is why i barely read anything last year :/

ooooooh fun, fun times :/

anyways, mutsumi is the protagonist with a cognitive intellectual disability. the author didn't spell out exactly what he has but he's intellectually delayed and compromised and isn't on the same level as his peers. super sweet, artistic, naive, but despite being in high school ➔ a working adult, he thinks on the level of an elementary schooler. then there's his childhood friend he absolutely adores, kurusu, who is the exact opposite of him - studious, intelligent, serious, quick-tempered, goal-oriented. while mutsumi is still fixated on childish things (due to his delayed development), kurusu is wanting to grow up quick, get the best grades, go to a top college, and have a successful career so he can emulate his deceased father. even if it means denying his true feelings and childhood friend.

mutsumi reminds me of asahi from moco's tsumetai haru so my enjoyment of reading this book exponentially increased. i like how sunahara switched povs between mutsumi and kurusu throughout the book. can't really think of anything i didn't like.... though admittingly, i find kurusu's actions annoying at times.

overall though, it's a really fascinating read, especially if you're looking for a BL novel with a character having some sort of disability. will definitely be re-reading this again.
