Very thought-provoking book. Some ideas may be out-dated, as other reviewers have pointed out, BUT the underlying theme of examining the human as an animal was such a fascinating train of thought to follow. We are primates. We are primates. We are primates. Yes, we have developed a far more complex culture than any other primate, but we are still animals, and that's all too easy to forget, making this book absolutely worth reading. It may change the way you look at yourself and everyone around you. Highly recommended!

That being said, I would love to read a chapter-by-chapter analysis of the book and hear how Morris's ideas stand up to modern research.

I thought the naked ape fascinating but slightly dated!
After all we are not naked apes but naked primates.
That's a difference. However, the observations Desmond Morris
makes about our behaviour are excellent. We have so much in
common with our ancestors. It helps to explain why we are
what we are.

I first read The Naked Ape and The Human Zoo by Desmond Morris when I was in my early 20's and have now read The Naked Ape Trilogy.
At the age of 70 I am so fascinated at how the story has repeated the cycle over the years.
The observations are extremely accurate and still very thought provoking, of which I am sure proves his theory of our never ending curiosity and competition.
I recommend this book be read by as many people as possible to discover the true nature of our species especially in our over populated world.
Perhaps the survival of future generations may depend on it.
