It’s not exactly what I’d call the ideal situation—being introduced to your bio-dad’s best mate only to realize he’s the sexy older guy you hooked up with a couple of weeks ago—but it’s also not the worst thing to ever happen in history. The way I see it, this is fate. The universe is throwing Shay Kelly in my path again because it knows how much I’ve been dying for another shag with him.
I have four weeks before I need to go back to London, and I know exactly how I’d like to spend that time. And fortunately for me, Shay’s just as keen for a repeat or ten as I am.
All we need is a few ground rules to keep this little fling in check…
Rule One: It’s temporary Makes sense—neither of us do the long-term bit. And it’s not like we can continue with this once I move back to London.
Rule Two: No dates, just sex Easy peasy—sex is the best part of dating anyway.
Rule Three: We keep it between us Perfect—sneaking around and concocting elaborate lies is a right turn on.
Rule Four: No falling in love Love? Me? In four weeks? There’s a better chance of me inventing the solution to climate change.
Warning: this book is not appropriate for anyone who doesn’t like laughing, anyone who doesn’t like British slang, and anyone who doesn’t like smokin’ hot older guys and sexy red-haired twinks having lots of sex and trying not to fall in love.
*fans self* Is it just me or does the steam intensify as this series goes on. We are now bordering erotica with plot territory. Actually we might have just crossed the line.
Oh boy, Shay and Jamie are hot for each other. This is a let's keep it casual and be completely unaware that we're head over heals for each other plot.
BFF's son Fathers BFF Age gap ~18yrs Love intervention ;) Feel good/Low angst Humor/Snark
I suppose these could be stand-alone but honestly, they are best enjoyed in order. All the previous couples make an appearance and also it would be hard to keep track of all the siblings without prior knowledge. Highly recommend!! Addictive quick read.
4 smutty-steamy-funny-romantic-stars!!😍 🔥 💕 This was another fun ride into the Kelly clan as another brother Shay (the eldest Kelly) falls in love.... with the long lost son of his best friend.. 💘. Confused yet? 🤔 Well, you won't be if you have read the series in order.. 😉. Continuing on or to be more accurate picking up a little before the last one ended (Blake and Owen's story) we readers find Jamie (Blake's son) and Shay (Blake's bff) having an 🔥amazingly hot 🔥 one night stand after they meet in a bar. It was just a hook-up for them, so despite the incredible chemistry they decide to leave it like that. But fate and cupid intervene and they meet again when Blake invites both his best friend and his "english" son to his house in the Hamptons for a weekend. As a reader we had read Blake & Owen's version of the Hampton visit so it was fun to see what was going on with Shay and Jamie. This reunion rekindles their undeniable attraction and they decide to continue their "physical only "relationship in secret. With an end date in sight (the day Jamie's leaves for London) the two come up with a set of rules so that they can part without any hard feelings or broken hearts..💔 And so start the "fencing lessons" 😉 !!! 💘 and the many many denials and excuses made by the duo about not forming any attachments 😍 This is a fun story about two people who despite having a big gap in their ages are very compatible💞 In addition to that the meddling/group chatting Kelly clan is a constant source of humor and gossip. I can't wait for the stories of Brendan, Connor, Aidan and more.. 🤩. Highly recommended to all fans of M/M rom-coms 👍👍
Hot sex Age gap From hook-up to lurve Tons of family (which gets confusing, TBH) Snark Karaoke And edibles!
There were a couple of continuity issues for me & I found my self rewinding/paging back to look for info I though I missed only to find it didn’t exist 🤷🏻♀️
Audiobook: Double narration by Joel Leslie & Michael Dean. Things I learned about Michael Dean: HE CANNOT DO AN ENGLISH ACCENT. Thank the gods JL carried the English narration. MD had a weird Irish/English/Something accent that constantly changed. Ignore this and you’ll be fine.
When Jamie and Shay met for 'just a hookup', they didn't realized that the hookup would become a complicated 'family business'. I love the Kelly's family interaction and their chat, also the love. A big family and all. I haven't read Blake and Owen's story so far, I truly will! Because, I thought Blake is an awesome man. Back to Jamie and Shay, even though they made it clear (and rules!) about their 'not relationship's relationship', when things had to ended, they're both miserable. And like Blake said to Shay, rules made to be broken. Kids! Don't do this at home!
Crazy Little Fling was a fun, adorable and entertaining read of this series! I really enjoyed it. Going to dive to Blake and Owen's story ASAP! And Brendan soon in book four! Can't wait!
I loved Shay and Jamie, they were so much fun together. I loved their casual fling, they were having lots of fun having sex and sneaking around. I also loved their HEA. But. I’m not sure how they went from the casual fling to the HEA. One minute they were hooking up, then Jamie left for the UK without even saying goodbye, and then boom. They are in love. What? What did I miss? I feel like we would have needed some more relationship development before the end of Jamie’s trip to make it more believable. But it was still a super fun read!
I adore the entire Kelly family, and hope all the guys get their books. I lost a bit of love for the Kelly mom when I found out how she reacted to Shay coming out. I’m the same age as Shay, and I don't like the "it was 25 years ago" excuse. It was the 90s, not the 60s. There was definitely homophobia at the time but I am disappointed the Kellys were those people.
*edited because my point was not clear the first time.

I think it's funny how much this author thinks British people say "bloody". That aside this is my fave book in the series so far. The Kelly family group chats are always my fave bits of these books they are "bloody" hilarious. It felt a little rushed in some places but overall this is an easy, fun read. Onto the next in the series!
Re-read 1/26/21 in order to clarify a few things in my head after reading #6.5 in the series. I still love how open Jamie is about his relationships with his Mom and Grandfather. I'm much better at keeping the Kelly siblings straight (ha ha ha!) now that I've read all their stories except for Finn's, so that was much easier this time around. And Shay's breakdown after Jamie left -- I loved the "don't get too close, I have the flu!" BS he's honestly convinced himself about -- it's a good thing that the rest of his brothers and sisters listened to Jake and staged that intervention!
original review: Plenty of steamy times, hilarious text chats, and scenes I've already read from a different POV in the previous book, which all adds up to a rather entertaining story. Shay and Jamie are great together, and it's nice to read about the Kelly family from an outsider's view. Now if I could just keep the 11 siblings straight... It looks like there are at least 3 more books planned from what's mentioned in the 2nd epilogue -- looking forward to Brendan, Conner, and Aidan falling in love!
I generally enjoy Isla Olsens brand of light fluffy stories, but this one missed the mark for me. I never felt the connection (outside of the bedroom) between Jamie and Shay. The love realization fell flat because of that. The characters themselves felt a little two dimensional as well, some...something was missing.
I know this is part of an interconnected series, but I felt like this went a bit overboard on the connections. It felt like 30% Blake and Owens story, and then in the epilogue we get the grand (cringy) love declaration from Aidan to Ben, whose book isn't even up next? Very odd.
Overall...meh. There's better Olsen books, and I still enjoy Heath and Declans book a lot.
Cute, but Olsen writes in a very hurried fashion. Things happen fairly quickly, and interspersing this book with the previous two (and which she will apparently do with the remaining books) doesn't work so well because the first quarter of this book was just rehashing what happened in Blake's and Owen's tale. Not sure what the point is to have to re-read things.
Still, this is a very sexual coupling and maintains some heat throughout. The resolution of the relationship between Jamie and Shay comes about quickly and a little unbelievably, but whatever. Olsen writes fun dialog and this family of queers is really starting to grow on me.
Not really a standalone. I skipped the first two and it took me a while to untangle all the characters and relationships, and some stuff I just decided I didn't care enough to untangle.
It's a good story and I loved the MCs' confidence. They're both sexually confident, come from good families and have stable jobs. It's just a story about two guys meeting each other and unexpectedly developing feelings for each other. There was a natural evolution to their feelings and relationship.
The reason for my low-ish rating is that the ending didn't quite stick the landing. I ate the whole plate and I was still feeling peckish. I ran the whole marathon but didn't cross the finishing line. I got to the last level but I couldn't kill the final boss. You get what I mean.
2.5 stars. I truly need to start DNFing more. And that's not to say anything bad about this book! It was nice, perfectly fine, accomplished what it needed to (kept me company while I was doing chores and cooking) but also I know in my heart I'm going to forget about it very soon. It's an age gap, dad's best friend romance between two guys who are determined to just have a secret fling and then move on when it's time for Jamie to go back to England, but of course, feelings get in the way. The writing style really didn't work for me, and I know I had the same problem with the other book I read from this author, so maybe she's just not for me. It was cutesy and cheesy in a way that almost put me off. Sometimes I'd be listening to Shay's chapters and I truly couldn't believe that I was expected to accept that this was a 42 year old man. Not that people in their 40s can't be silly or goofy sometimes, but I don't know. This just felt tonally out of whack, juvenile in a way I wasn't expecting. I did enjoy that this was so low angst, with no messy drama, and the main characters did have a lot of chemistry, so that was something. But that book took on so much other stuff, especially with Jake, and it felt like the kind of storyline that merited more weight, and definitely a bit more length. But that's my own fault; I already know that romance novellas don't always work for me, so I should've steered clear of this maybe. And this is also my fault for jumping in in the middle of a series, but the book kept referring to a bunch of past characters and events, and there was a lot of obvious set up for future books in the series, and it kept distracting me from the couple in this book. It got a little annoying.
Listened to the audiobook as read by Michael Dean and Joel Leslie, two narrators I really like. And I mean, they did a great job with the material they were given. I feel like I'm being a bit too harsh on the book, because there truly wasn't anything wrong with it? It was genuinely cute and hot and I had a good time? But also, if I had DNFed it, my reading life wouldn't be any poorer.
I’ve liked all three of these books and this one was definitely my favorite. I loved Jamie and Shay. Actually, the entire Kelly family is a lot of fun.
There’s so much fun with an age gap romance. Especially when you are having sex with your best friend’s son at the same time he’s developing a relationship with your younger brother. Can’t wait for book 4.
This was not my favorite of the series. I think it's because 50% of this book mirrored what happened in book 2, Virtually Screwed. It was very choppy and felt all over the place. It also felt a little too much like Blake and Owen's story.
At about the 65% mark or so it seemed to pick up in real-time and got significantly better. I love the banter back and forth. Especially with the family texts. I really do love this family and wish this book would've been better for me.
I really enjoy this series, but this one feels like a set-up for all the books to come. This was frankly the couple I least cared about. I still had lots of fun listening, but it did not give me the romance vibes I found in the previous two books.
I still like the first book the best but this one was sweet. I liked both characters and how it ties in with the previous book. I liked how innocent Shay was. Favourite part of the series is still the family group chats. I’m looking forward to Connor’s book.
Crazy Little Fling is the 3rd book in Ms Olsen’s Love & Luck series but can be read as a standalone. I would however suggest that you read Fake it ‘til You Make Out and Virtually Screwed as characters from both books are entwined in this book. Book 3 follows Shay Kelly’s story. Shay and Jamie were supposed to be a one-night stand; however, an unexpected encounter throws them back into each other’s path. With a few weeks before Jamie returns to the UK, they decide to continue seeing each other. They have put in place a set of rules to protect themselves, and their hearts. Crazy Little Fling is a well-written, funny book. I loved both main characters and enjoyed seeing previous couples as well. Thoroughly enjoyed this book!! Can’t wait for the next in this series!!
I'm really loving this series, they're short, sexy and a lot of fun. Shay and Jamie are perfect together and I can't wait to read the rest of the Kelly's stories. The family are brilliant, the group messages crack me up. You definitely have to read the other books in the series, and honestly, it's not going to be a hardship. Highly recommended.
I'm not exactly sure how to feel about this. First of all, I took my sweet time instead of finishing it in one day. I could've, I just didn't want to.
I can safely say that Isla Olsen's writing is enjoyable whether you fly through it in a couple of hours or read the book over few days time. It's simple, smutty, not too detailed, but detailed enough. The writing style is just right for me.
It was a miss, however, to have another age gap story so soon in the series after Virtually Screwed. That makes it 2 out of 3 books so far, and I'm not a huge fan of that trope. It was done well, though, and since both characters are adults and consent to it, I don't see a problem, it's just not my favourite.
I do still appreciate the overlap in this series. Basically they are a bunch of companion novels that take place around the same time. Things that happened in book 1 and 2 get mentioned in this one, so I would recommend reading them from the beginning to avoid getting spoilers, but they can be read as a standalone.
Looking at the series as a whole, I still like the first one, Fake It 'til You Make Out, the most. What can I say, I'm a sucker for those prompts and since the other two had age gaps... Yeah. I'm looking forward to picking up book 4 sometime in the future.
Summary: Forty-two-year-old Shay spots a hot, red-haired twink and an even hotter one night stand soon follows. Afterwards, he’s surprised to find he’s a little sorry they didn’t exchange any information about each other because he wouldn’t have minded a follow up. Now, imagine his surprise when his best friend introduces him to his long lost son and it turns out to be the hookup he hasn’t been able to forget.
Review: I am really enjoying the Kelly boys. Olsen writes really fun, low angst stories about charming characters who delight with their humor and humanity. After reading Virtually Screwed wherein Shay’s best friend, Blake, starts dating Shay’s youngest brother, I knew I had to read the story of Shay turning around and dating Blake’s son, Jamie. That is a delightfully twisted situation!
I have to say, I love that neither Shay nor Jamie personally feel weird about dating each other. Maybe they would have if there hadn’t been a preset time limit on their relationship since Jamie had a job to get back to England for. And it probably helps that neither man was at all interested in a long term relationship. But there was something fun about them being in that situation and feeling no guilt. Their only reason for not going public was that it was supposed to be short term so why bother?
I like that even though things are supposed to be casual and no dating, they still find themselves lingering and sleeping over which sometimes means breakfast. So that we can see them growing more attached to each other, even if they don’t see it.
This might be slightly spoilery, but as fun as that was, I was still a little disappointed that there wasn’t any pushback from anyone when they finally did come clean. Even Blake doesn’t seem to bat an eyelash. In fact, we never really get to see his reaction, which was slightly disappointing—even reacting well, I’d have liked to have it happen on page.
Also potentially spoilery—I really enjoyed how clueless both men were that they’d grown attached to each other, had, in fact, fallen in love. Shay’s whole sickness was a riot. So fun!
So if you’re looking for a fun, low-angst, age gap, dad’s best friend, steamy mm romance, definitely read this one!
I was looking for a new audiobook, which is a task when I’m in one of my moods. I use like 4 different apps to read, so there were a lot of choices. But the minute I read the synopsis for Crazy Little Fling, I knew it was PERFEEEEEECT! Age Gap, Size Difference and Father’s Best Friend… YES, PLEASEEEEEEE!!!
They meet at a bar and have the most incredible one night stand that they both can’t stop thinking about. Three weeks of pining over someone you met and ducked is a lot. Maybe not pining, but thinking about that night (on repeat) is close enough to pining to count.
When Jamie goes to visit his biological father (which for context, he had only met recently), he sees that one night stand again… because he’s his father’s best friend, Shay. Their hookup, of course, has to stay a secret. What a way that would be to get introduced to the family. “This is my son, he slept with my best friend…” That would not be my ideal first meeting. 😂
Jamie is an adorable ginger British twink, while Shay is a muscular older comic artist who’s working on a book that is basically Buffy. I think he may be of Irish decent (his name is Seamus), but I may have missed that explanation. I love their banter and where it leads… the sex is ducking 🔥HAWT!🔥 Like I was feeling sweat bead on my forehead hoping no one could hear the book from my car. 🤣🤣🤣
Speaking of the audiobook… Joel Leslie & Michael Dean were ICONIC! I was there with them reading it (in spirit)! I could picture myself in the scene. I loved the accents. It was perfect! Love Love LOVEEEEEE!!!!!
This is a fun, light book with easy banter. Crazy Little Fling builds off of the Love & Luck series and overlaps the same time frame from book two in the series. It then makes for better reading if you have at least read Virtually Screwed. Heath and Declan from book one, Fake It ‘til You Make Out, are also present here, as well as Shay’s large family and all of the storylines do build on each other overall.
I really like when the chemistry between the MCs is evident right from the start and that’s what we get here. Shay and Jamie are hooking up from the beginning and the early part of their relationship is continued hookups. They know there is an end date, as Jamie will be going back to England, and they are planning on enjoying the time they have. It all becomes more though. To follow along here, Blake and Shay are best friends. Blake is dating Shay’s youngest brother and Shay is now hooking up with the son Blake never knew he had. What I like here is that when the truth comes out, the men are genuinely happy for each other.
I love this series! This one was great. It was fun, no drama, parts that I laughed out loud at. Age gap and technically dad’s best friend... though Shay and Jamie didn’t know it when they first hooked up. And Jamie met his dad way later in life.. but still. His dad, Blake (from the previous book) was super supportive when he found out his best friend was hooking up with his son and fell in love with him.
Also super weird and kind of awkward but hilarious how all of their relationships would work out: Blake is Shay’s friend, also married Owen who is Shay’s brother. Shay’s with Blake’s son. Owen will be a step-dad to someone his own age but also his brother-in-law. Blake will be a father-in-law to someone his own age but also his brother-in-law too. Super confusing but 😆😆
Anyway, I’ll definitely read the next in the series. 3.5⭐️
So these book really should be read in order. The characters from previous books are all connected so it would be confusing otherwise. In this one we have Jamie who is Blake's long lost son from #2 and Shay who is Blake's BFF and one of the Kelly clan. We just knew this was going to get complicated but their relationship was so fun Shay didn't stand a chance. Poor bastard. I really enjoy this series and am looking forward to the next episode!
Another fun instalment in this series. I enjoyed how this romance started out; it was pure convenience with extreme attraction. And then it develops over time. The Kelly gang are a great backdrop for these stories and their WhatsApp conversations fill in character and humour.
Narrated by Michael Dean & Joel Leslie - can only be great with these two managing the US/UK accents.
cute funny sexy and fast paced. I love the Kelly family shenanigans and Jamie's new grannie who isn't to be trusted with tea and baked goods.
it's not super high quality but its absolutely 💯 great as a snack. fast good romance that's sexy semi romantic and funny enough with enough recurring characters who aren't the mc of one of the previous or upcoming books.
