The Aquarians: 2012 - A New Era Begins

Rate this book
According to the ancient Mayan calendar, time as we know it will stop on December 21st, 2012. But what does this actually mean? Rebecca Larson, senior dolphin behaviorist at SeaWorld, San Diego, has a theory. She believes that the cooperative way dolphins live is the very reason they have thrived on earth for millions of years. What's more, she sees the end of the Mayan calendar as a moment when humans may truly begin to integrate these same peaceful behaviors. Dr. Troy Wallace, a pioneer in the study of dolphin echolocation, is convinced that he is on the verge of an incredible scientific breakthrough. Recent research suggests that dolphins may send three-dimensional sonograms to each other, and Dr. Wallace hopes to be the first to decode and view these images. As handsome as he is shallow, Southern California television celebrity Ryan Ericson finds himself on a path that intersects with the lives of Dr. Wallace and Rebecca. Together, they are thrust into a mystery of coincidence and discovery connecting the Mayan calendar end-date, dolphins and the very fate of humanity.

Banginiai, horoskopai, pasaulio pabaigos teorijos...

Firstly I want to say that it's a GREAT BOOK, you should READ IT, BUT be prepared for the pale ending, the only thing i hated was exactly that.
I started to read it, everything was great, the pacing with places, time dates and chapters, the main plot, and the idea about the dolphin communication is well thought too, characters were interesting and each unique in their own ways, everything super interesting until the end...
When the main character was like *oh i will write about my life story now* (when the story ended) i was really frustrated, I understand that maybe the author wanted to teach everyone something, some lesson or share with everyone about parts of his life ( because in the start of the book it was written that he dedicates this book to his wife and children ) so I'm guessing the story shared some parts of his life, but still the ending was so pale and empty, I thought all the characters will join forces in the end, when the proof of dolphin communication was destroyed miraculously, but no one joined forces (even though even the character Tak Mol said everyone will gather and come to Bailor) instead the story ended as a love story more or less, and the mystery behind the aquarius era was kept a mystery, so I don't really get then, why in the world characters not involved in any way to the main story were written
(characters like : Mike Flecher, Bailor or even Tak Mol), they were practically useless to the main story development...
Basically it is not a bad book, but in my opinion the ending was fumbled, because with the disc destroyed, and everything gone downhill the main character just decided to write this story, in which half of the characters were not even connected to the main plot and were practically useless.???
It would have been a perfect book if the ending would have progressed into Volis's another attempt to prove to the world about dolphin capabilities or if the characters were all connected in the end somehow... but it did not happen...
And if i could say something to the author i would probably praise him for being intelligent and being capable of writing a good story, but I would also really want to tell him that most of the book readers are enthusiasts for a good story, not an informative or a teaching book, and most of the readers ( like me ) hope for a good plot from start to finish and don't as much care about learning something.

If I could I would give this book 3.5 instead of 4.

Really likes this book. I love dolphins and this book explained a lot about them and their unique abilities. Also, the mystery and historical perspective added to the fast pace of the story.
