Rate this book
My life is falling apart before my eyes. I lost my boyfriend and my job, leaving my summer plans looking like they were shot with a shotgun. And to add a little more gasoline to the fire, my ex-boyfriend sent me an invitation to his wedding.

Who does that?

So I take my older sister up on her offer to let me visit her through the summer in exchange for a little bit of help with my two adorable nieces when she has her baby at the end of July. A free place to stay, far away from all of the drama that is my life? I’ll take it.

I pack up my tiny car and drive to the tiniest mountain town on the Wasatch Back–Sherman Pines. The problem with my man-free summer plans doesn’t become apparent until my car breaks down just outside of town, and now I have to rely on Carter Hayes, the insufferable–and unfortunately, only–mechanic in this tiny town to fix it.

When my summer becomes a raging dumpster fire of epic proportions, Carter is the only one who can douse the flames. I just have to be able to convince everyone around us that the fiery passion between us is love, not hate.

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

Oh, my goodness! I loved this book SO much!!!

I was giggling the whole time and couldn't keep the smile off my face! The humor and banter between the characters was top notch, and everything felt so realistic.

As an older sister with large age gaps between me and my siblings, I loved Riley relationship with Quinn! Their teasing and how Riley wanted to smack Quinn or was hoping to avoid being smacked reminded me of my brother and I so much. I loved seeing a sibling relationship that was so similar to the way they are in my house.

Riley and Carter...where do I even start? From the pranks (I won't spoil anything, but I have one word for you--squirrel) to the hilarious sarcasm these two were a blast to watch! I mean this book has everything. Fake dating? Check. Hot kisses? Double check. A Mr. Darcy hand flex reference? Million check marks!!!

I never wanted this book to end and now I'm sitting in denial that I already finished it. I'll definitely be rereading it!

Thank you so much, Ashely Funk, for the ARC!

I devoured this—seriously loved this book so much. Riley is such a fun, relatable character. I love how sassy she was, yet underneath she was sensitive and soft. I loved her relationship with Quinn. Sisters are the best, and I loved how devoted she was to her. Now, let’s get to the very best part. CARTER. Carter is a top notch book boyfriend material. I loved him from the get-go. He challenged Riley well, and I love how in tune he was. I gotta say, I wasn’t expecting to feel so many emotions in this book. Funk succeeded at making me laugh (seriously I laughed so much) while tugging at my heart.

Some fun tropes to expect:
•Pranks🐿️🐿️🐿️
•A bit of fake dating👩‍❤️‍👨
•small town romance🥰
•softball🥎
•a sassy independent FMC💚
•kisses that are firework worthy🎇

ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL & ADORABLE!!!!

I internally squealed throughout the whole book! And this cover is just 😍

Tow Truck (Carter) & Elsa (Riley) are so cute! This had the perfect amount of enemies to loves AND fake dating! And the way they fell together 🤭 PURE PERFECTION!!!!!

I wish I could have finished this faster, but between a concussion and other life things it took me so long 😭

I gave it a try, but I just couldn’t get into it. The situations just became too convenient. Also, I cannot get over the fact that the FMC created her enemy when she had a flat tire and He asked her if she needed help and she said no and was frustrated that he asked because she was doing it by herself. And that situation made her think he was the worst guy ever, and she was just very mean to him for the first half of the book. And he, of course, instantly fell in love with her. It just wasn’t doing it for me.

Riley and Carter’s story is just so much fun; I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face while reading. You’ve got a faux-enemies-to-lovers vibe, banter, fun pranks, fake dating, and forced proximity all packed into this sweet story.

Things I Loved:
-Cheez-Its, Cheetos, and Nacho Cheese Doritos.
-No-Man Summer
-Pops
-Tow Truck & Elsa
-Deck of Death
-Squirrel
-"Methinks she doth protest too much."
-Softball game
-Swapping memories 🤍
-“Whoever said Saturday was for sleeping in obviously doesn't have kids.” Can I get an AMEN? 😂
-“I'm desperate. Isn't this how rom coms usually start? A down-on-her-luck young woman gets stuck between a rock and a hard place.”
-Sweet Dr Pepper on tap in Texas
-“I can even do the hand flex thing, if you like.” PERFECTION 😂
-Antagonistic indifference
-Fireworks
-Pros and Cons List
-Twinkies
-The end! 🤍

I loved Ashley’s first book, but I love this one even more! This small town, Riley with her sister and her kids, Pops just being the cutest, it’s all so good. Do not miss out!

Only complaint is that I probably looked ridiculous smiling at my phone screen for an entire flight!

I loved this book and loved Riley’s fiercely independent and family-oriented character. Carter is a dream book boyfriend. Challenging, sweet, supportive, intuitive, etc.

A little more unexpected but whole-heartedly welcomed was the seven year age gap between sisters, college softball, and major life changes that rang eerily true. I didn’t want this book to end!

Do you know how you know that a RomCom is going to be good? When there is a scene with a squirrel. I don't know why this is. I don't make the rules here. All I know is that some of my very favorite moments from RomCom books have involved squirrels... so when I heard that Like Cabins on Fire was going to feature squirrels? Well, I knew it was going to be good. Thankfully, it did not disappoint!

Right from the start, I enjoyed these characters. The banter between them was fantastic and had me laughing out loud so many times throughout. I don't always love a prank war, but when they're done well? Well, they can definitely make for a super fun story and I definitely felt this one was done really well (see above comments about squirrels)... it didn't drag on too long, but added some great moments of humor. And the chemistry between these two!? Absolutely fantastic... I couldn't get enough of them together! I found it had such a great blend of laughable moments and swoon-worthy ones, just as a good RomCom should. While the chemistry was fantastic, it was a closed-door romance with nothing beyond kissing and no language.

This is the first book that I had read by Ashley Funk, but it most certainly will not be the last!

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

Reader’s Notes:

– this is told from Riley & Carter’s points of view

– the characters briefly talk about having lost a parent due to cancer & a spouse/grandparent due to illness (occurred two years prior to the events in this book)

Review:

I loved this book so so much! It was very entertaining and funny to read. I read it all in one day! I loved how Carter’s manners ended up setting off Riley who wasn’t used to the small town manners that he grew up with. I loved that Riley wanted to get under Carter’s skin by messing with him after he kept showing up at the different places she ended up going. I loved that Carter wanted to get to know Riley, but also wanted to respect her clearly put up barriers. I also really loved the fake dating aspect and how it came up in the story! Some of my favorite scenes/moments in this book included: their first meeting, a prank war, sister moments, fake dating around the ex, Carter with Riley’s nieces, the softball game, and time spent with Pops.

Summary:

Riley is not having a good start to her summer. Between her ex dumping her, her work not renewing her contract for next year, and then that same ex sending her his wedding invitation, it’s no wonder she wants to run away. So she does, right to her sister’s house in a small town to escape the dumpster fire that has become her life. To top it all off, Riley has decided to have a ban on men and immediately meets one that she can’t keep her eyes off of just outside of her sister’s town. Carter checks all the right boxes at the worst time. Riley is determined to keep him at arms length, but can only do so much when small town life throws them together repeatedly…

Carter never wanted to leave his small town life. Not even when his parents moved to be closer to his brother. But then he meets Riley when her car breaks down outside of town and he offers to help her out, something changes. Riley is a spitfire that keeps Carter on his toes and makes him look forward to the next time they will cross paths. The only issue is that she lives and works far away so Riley is choosing to push him away because they ‘just won’t work out’. But Carter isn’t willing to let this thing between them go without giving them a shot. Can he convince Riley to give them a try? Even if it means that his heart will end up broken when she leaves to go back home at the end of the summer?

Okay, hold up! I did not expect this book to be THIS GOOD! I loved it from the first chapter till the epilogue! I highly recommend this hilarious rom-com to all book lovers♥️

Carter and Riley’s “meet-cute” of sorts was absolutely hysterical😂 I loved how feisty Riley was and the fact that Carter just ate it up, made it all the better. {Elsa & Tow Truck}

“I don’t hate hate him…but it’s not that I like him either. It’s more of…antagonistic indifference.”

From the car fiasco to the cleanup of the cabin and the fake dating, Riley and Carter’s story kept me highly invested. The “mini bear” freak out had me rolling😂 And oooo that kiss though!! ❤️‍🔥🔥 Sparks were most definitely flying between the two of them. Their chemistry was off the charts amazing!

“My heart, the clumsy oaf, trips and faceplants.”

“I’d choose you over anyone, any day.”

This was my first read by Ashley Funk and it certainly won’t be my last because this book was AMAZING!! I cannot portray enough just how much I enjoyed this banter filled rom-com♥️

Thank you Ashley Funk for granting me the privilege of reading the ARC of your incredible book!

I’ve finally accepted the fact that I don’t read as much anymore and quit giving myself such a hard time about it. This book helped me with that because I just read it whenever I felt like it instead of trying to force myself to read it. Riley and Carter’s relationship was cute. I loved the playful pranks they pulled on each other towards the beginning of the book. I do kind of wish they had kept pulling pranks throughout the book but overall it was still a great book. I also really enjoyed seeing Riley’s relationship with her sister and her nieces. Oh and don’t get me started on Pops! If I had to choose a favorite side character I’d probably choose him. There really wasn’t any language in this book and the romance was clean/kissing only. The one thing I disliked was how frustrated Riley was when Carter offered to help her in the beginning. 🤣Granted I don’t have much room to talk because I don’t love getting help either but she was genuinely mad at him for wanting to help. It was good to see her learning to accept and even ask for help as the book progressed though so even that problem was resolved.

Riley is on the run. She is escaping her dumpster fire of a life and fleeing to a small town to spend the summer with her sister. Left behind in the ashes is the ex that left her and the job that let her go. Part of Riley’s plan to pick up the pieces is embarking on a “no man summer.” Unfortunately, Riley’s dumpster fire becomes an inferno when her car breaks down along the way. Enter Carter, handsome white knight tow truck driver. Did I mention the no man summer? That includes tow truck drivers thinking they can swoop in and save the day. Riley doesn’t need to be saved, she can save herself. Too bad Carter keeps popping up in her life. She doesn’t need him, but maybe by the end of the summer, she could let herself want him.

I LOVED that this book featured a strong FMC. She was determined to make her own way, fix what was broken, and shield her loved ones in the process. Riley did all of this while helping care for her nieces throughout the summer. For as strong as Riley is, she also opened herself up to vulnerability. Riley and Carter opening up to each other…perfection.

Cute, clean, predictable, quick romance. I think my teenage self would have loved this.

Riley was a little childish at times. I also feel like too many tropes were thrown in here too quickly and none of them really had time to develop.

Another sweet romance from Ashley Funk! She knocked it out of the park with Like Cabins on Fire.

Small town. Forced proximity. Enemies(ish) to lovers. Prank war. Fake dating.

This book has it ALL, and each element ties in seamlessly with the next, creating a compelling romance with dynamic characters, meddling side characters, and small town charm. When Riley and Carter first meet, you can feel the tension between them like a rubber band ready to snap, and once that tension breaks, their chemistry is explosive.

An absolute joy to read! Thank you to the author for an ARC to read and review.

After losing her job and breaking up with her boyfriend, who just invited her to attend his wedding to the woman he left her for, high school math teacher and softball coach Riley Barrett has had enough. She decides to spend the summer reinventing herself and definitely not dating, heading off to stay with her very pregnant older sister Quinn in the small town of Sherman Pines, Utah. Unfortunately, her ancient Toyota breaks down a short distance outside town and she's forced to accept help from Carter Hayes, the annoyingly handsome tow truck driver/mechanic who stops to assist. To pay for the repairs, Quinn helps Riley find a part-time job managing a rental cabin for the summer. The only problem is that Riley's new employer also happens to be Carter's grandfather, which forces them to spend more time together than she'd like. When her past catches up with her and Riley must accept help from Carter once again, will it bring the two of them closer or send her running in the opposite direction?

I adored this funny, sweet, and heartwarming story, which featured endearing, relatable characters and an engaging plot. Riley didn't exactly have a good reason to dislike Carter other than the fact that the timing for their relationship wasn't right, but at least she owned that fact. In reality, he was a great guy and incredibly patient with her as she worked through her fears. Their chemistry was pitch perfect, as was the witty banter. In addition, their prank war had me laughing out loud more than once. Finally, I loved Riley's sweet, supportive relationship with her sister Quinn. I've never had a sister, but if I did, I hope she'd be just like Quinn!

I highly recommend "Like Cabins on Fire" for all fans of sweet contemporary romance and romantic comedy. It was the first book I've read by this author but won't be the last.

This was such a fun book to read! I loved Riley and Carter, and I enjoyed every moment spent reading about them.

The pranks were hilarious, and I really liked how they were written! I like pranks in stories, but sometimes they go a little too far, and they can make me feel uncomfortable. That was not the case with this book! They were so funny, and I had a blast reading that part of the book!

I also really enjoyed the character development. It was great to get to know Riley and Carter throughout the story, and I felt for Riley over the previous loss of her father. Though grief isn’t a major part of the story, there were lines that I highlighted and that made me tear up. Those parts were beautifully written.

The romance is sweet and swoonworthy, and I loved seeing them fall for each other! This is a great book, and I’m so glad I read it!

Another great book by Ashley! I love that there are so many elements to this story.
I love that we have such a playful relationship in this one. And many funny pranks.

We see Riley grow in so many ways when she moves to Sherman Pines. She learns that it is okay to let go of the past and how you need to talk things out with your family even if you’re scared.

After losing her boyfriend and her job one after the other Riley decides to take a trip to Sherman Pines to visit with her sister and her family. There she finds a small job to do to help her out with money. She goes to a cabin and cleans after each guest leaves. Little does she know she’s going to meet Carter and start a prank war involving a squirrel. Will this war turn into a hatred battle or a fiery passion? Read to find out!!

Like Cabins on Fire - Ashley Funk

If I had to pick one main thing I loved about this book, it would have to be the amount of times I physically laughed out loud. The banter and the humour starts at the first page and continues to the last! The witty dialogue and humorous situations created a sense of camaraderie among the characters and fostered a strong connection between them and the reader. It felt like being a part of an inside joke or being included in a group of friends who constantly find ways to make each other laugh. I have 5 words: Tow Truck, Elsa, Mini Bear.

As an older sister myself, with a large age gap, I loved the depiction of the relationship between the MFC, Riley and her sister, Quinn. It was heartwarming to see a sibling relationship the same as the one between my siblings and myself being represented.

Riley is a fantastic character! Her sassiness adds a lively and entertaining element to her personality, making her relatable and enjoyable to read about. It's always interesting to see characters who have both strong and vulnerable sides, as it adds depth and complexity to their portrayal.This combination allows readers to connect with her on a deeper level, as they can relate to the different facets of her personality. It's a delight to come across well-crafted love interests who challenge the main character in a positive way. The fact that Carter was able to challenge Riley shows that their relationship has depth and growth potential. It's also heartwarming that Carter is in tune with Riley's emotions and needs, as I found that this kind of emotional connection was incredibly fulfilling to read about. Riley and Carter were well-developed characters that readers can cheer for, relate to, and fall in love with.

This book made me feel so many emotions that I wasn’t prepared for. Ashley takes the readers on an emotional journey creating a compelling and memorable reading experience.

overall it was a good book but I got some notes...

🏕 things I disliked in the book:

- 2 things that I hate in closed-door books that unfortunately i see them in many books & it was in this one:
1. about her ex.. in my opinion I find it quite unessacary making him a jerk while making Carter the dream (if there was a better and more realistic reason for their breakup it would make the book better)
2. now to the enemies-to-lovers trope... it wasn't represented well at all in this book
I'll put it in a simple scenario like this "her hating him for apparently no reason and him trying to make up for it and/or loving her." this actually happened at the beginning of the book and then she was searching for a reason in halfway through the book.. like it's clear that there's no reason to hate him. even the slightest. to her credit, she admits that. I just didn't find a reason to throw the trope in here.
and him approaching to help her while maybe she didn't need him much doesn't make him "the enemy" like it's such a strong word and in general I think that this trope is misunderstood if I gotta be honest
- Riley slightly gave me the childish female lead vibes ( but it was only at the beginning which I'm thankful for)
- also yeah, I'm def felt the insta love at the beginning which if you don't know it's not my fav thing ever ( also I was glad that you don't notice it much as you keep on reading)

🏕 now for things I liked:

- loveee the cover smm the color pallete is amazing
- loved the nickname ofcc
- the pride and prejudice lil scene takes a point
- the second half of the book was much much better than the first
- I tried listening to part of the mini playlist that the author wrote and I found it SO relatable to the story's plot which I loved ( I don't usually listen to book's playlists so that was a cool experience)
- this book wants you to have a small- town love story
- it was so sweet of the author to mention her ARC team in the acknowledgements 🤍

thank you Ashley for providing an ARC to review 🥰🤍

Romance level: kissing🔥.

I love Carter. The end😅.He's enough reason for you to love this book. It was A MASTERPIECE!

The plot? Amazing. I have no words for this book, I just love it from beginning to end. I read Ashley's book The Cookie Bait & fell in love with her writing. This book didn't disappoint.

Their first meeting 😅 although Riley was a little bit rude to him (with how she was treated before I understand her apprehension to real kindness), I loved how everything went over.

The first scene in the cabin was awesome 😍. That man's description🔥. Wow. Each prank was better than the last one 😂. These scenes can be summarized in: "Riley just scratched the surface of my petty pond"😂. The mini-bear😂👌🏻.

"Methinks she doth protest too much."

Protest she did! The chemistry & attraction between those two🔥😍. Even Riley couldn't deny it for too long.

“I can even do the hand flex thing, if you like.”

A man who knows his Pride & Prejudice? Yes please. Carter was such a sweetheart! Thoughtful, kind, supportive, loyal, sweet, & definitely sexy. His formal submission of nicknames was the best😂. All he did had me swooning, he was all in!

🔥
“I’ll tell you what I want.”
🔥

He had my heart way before that moment, but right there? He just confirmed it.

Pops was a sweetheart! I loved him so much! So wise & mischievous🌟. Also, his gentle words for Carter🐔😂 epic. This book had such amazing second characters, with also Quinn, Weston, the girls... Seeing Carter with her nieces was everything. He was so nice, calm, & kind.

The scene up the trail, after all the hectic cabin clean up was definitely one of my favorite moments. The final chapters were the best! The last call & the epilogue were fantastic! I love their relationship & communication 👌🏻.

Ashley definitely got herself a hardcore fan! Count me in for whatever you write, I'm reading it.

⚠️TW: death of a loved one; CA; cheating; strained relationship w/parent.

LCOF is a delightful stand alone rom-com by Ashley Funk. This was my first read by this author and I was truly enamored by her story from the get-go. This story begins with a down on her luck FMC. Funk sets up this story by really getting us wrapped into the misery and determination of this character to overcome her current circumstances.

Pros: The author’s character set up for the FMC is one that you can easily identify with, but more so that that - you for sure dive into her mental state a chapter at a time. Riley, the FMC is funny and witty; a determined city-folk that seems to be a downfall for her as well, especially when she encounters the MMC for the first time.
Carter(MMC) is a well-intentioned mechanic and tow truck driver that encounters Riley in one of her down on her luck moments. He is the total package of course: fun, kind, well mannered, and pretty patient as seen with Riley.

The characters have off the charts physical attraction to one another but Riley is the one intent on not making that known. Carter is all the more willing. The banter and pranks that ensue are so fun to read through and you can totally see why these two are meant for each other.

CONS: The MVP of the story should’ve had more “screen time” — the squirrel! Totally needed more squirrel shenanigans in the story. On a serious note, the only element that I felt lacked a bit was, surprisingly, the connection between the two MCs; I ended the book wanting to feel a deeper connection. Between the two, instead I felt Riley shut down way to easily instead of building on vulnerable moments like she did with Carter’s grandfather.

Overall, I definitely recommend this read! What a different pace from the usual long series I read where authors build up the town and the townspeople too much in order to have characters that we will read about down the road. It was a breath of fresh air to just dive into the relationship between the MCs and only their close family and. It bring in so many extra characters.

Everyone, read this book!

Congratulations to Ashley Funk for her novel and a big fat thank you for sending me the ARC of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Rating: 4 stars

What you can expect:
- Small town romance
- "I want to hate you but I can't" dynamics
- Fake dating
- Sibling love and support
- Grief talk over losing a loved one
- Closed doors (but the tension and build-up are fantastic)

My review
This book was so wholesome and sweet it made me giggle like a teenager on more than one occasion. I don't know how but Ashley managed to capture all colours of sexy and adorable without a single open-doors spicy scene and for that, she deserves all the accolades.

Beware of potential spoilers below

After she's let go at her previous job and her two-year relationship goes down the gutter, Riley decides to pay her older and very pregnant sister a visit. A no-man summer, as she calls it, is in order. However, on her way there, her car breaks down. Because of course it does. And who comes to her rescue? The owner of the only shop in town. The unbelievably handsome owner who also fixes porches shirtless and is the perfect combination of raging hot and thoughtful. Because of course he is.

Is it the ideal meet-cute? No, it is not. Is it as terrible as Riley is set up to believe? Nope. That either. But hey, if we were in her shoes-feeling miserable and lost and with absolutely no idea of what to do with our lives-I believe we'd all react the same way. Because the last thing we need when we're already down is a share of condescending mansplaining. Even if unintentional.

This first encounter shapes Riley's and Carter's entire relationship and from there on it escalates to a series of pranks and embarrassing moments that are amusing and cute and a delight to read. Riley is so determined to hate Carter that it reaches a point where she's just making up excuses to deny the more than obvious attraction, even when he agrees to fake-date her to save her ass!
(Credits for not forfeiting her principles only because of a pretty face, I may add).

Along the way and through seemingly innocent conversations with her sister, brother-in-law and other members of the community, we learn, bit by bit, about Riley and her personal story. What moves her, what worries her, and what scares her. The parts where her and Pops share memories of their respective loved ones is specially well written and equally heart-breaking and precious.

Would I recommend this book?
100% yes.
If you're looking for a light rom-com with some heavy moments peppered here and there, a swoony MMC, personal growth for your FMC and a small-town setting, this book is definitely for you.

I loved this book🥹 it’s that sweet, wholesome rom com you can snuggle up with to cure all your troubles💖 the chicken soup for your broken-hearted soul on a rainy day. And while I love my spice (thanks bookstagram for introducing me to that😂🌶️) it’s also nice to read a closed door top notch cutesy romance🥰

🏕️loved the banter, the pranks, Pops, the family relationships, the fake dating…(love you Carter. You go Glen coco, four for you glen coco!) and although I can swear like a sailor when I’m not around my babies (being a nurse will do that to you), I genuinely love cute and funny swearword alternatives. I use them around my daughters all the time!

🐿️ I call squirrels mini bears too so this spoke to my very soul😂😂😂😂 finally somebody understands!

🏡 SMALL TOWN VIBES (the Gilmore girls-Hart of Dixie-Virgin River loving girl swooned) need I say more?

Thanks so much @ashleyfunk.writes for the ARC! I’ve been reading a lot of very intense and angsty fantasies lately and although I adore them…I needed my romcom to add a little honey to my heart🥹😍🤩🍯

Instagram didn’t like my long review plus the blurb so make sure to check out this book and read the blurb for yourself! To summarize, Riley’s life is going up in flames 🔥 Her boyfriend dumps her to marry the girl he’s been cheating on her with, then she gets fired….and decides to move to her sister’s small town for the summer for a no man summer…until her truck breaks down on the side of the road and hello forbidden fruit Carter👏🏼👏🏼

"I'd choose you over anyone, any day."

"Abs are gross. Abs are overrated. Abs are icky. Maybe if I say those words enough, they'll become true."

Read if you like:
* Enemies to Lovers
* Fake Dating
* Forced Proximity
* Dual POV
* Stand Alone Novel
* He Falls First
* Closed Door Romance
* Small Town
* Witty Banter
* Prank Wars

Riley's life has imploded. Between losing her job and her boyfriend dumping her, she needs a break from her normal life, so she decides to spend a "man free" summer with her sister's family in a small town away from everything.
Carter has stayed in his very small hometown, despite most of his family moving away, so that he can remain close to his Grandpa (Pops). Prepare yourself, because Carter will become your next book boyfriend!
When these two meet sparks fly, but Riley has sworn off men for the summer. She does everything in her power to remind herself of this fact, but it's difficult when she and Carter are continually thrown together.

Favorites:
* The Nicknames
* Double Date
* The Mini-Bear
* Pops
* Late Night Sister Chats
* Softball Games
* Carter with Riley's nieces
* Deck of Death
* Carter "flexing" his Jane Austen knowledge
* Birthday Pool Party
* The First Kiss

Ashely has combined two of my favorite tropes, enemies to lovers and fake dating, and come up with a delicious summer read.

*I received an arc of this book, however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Oh.my.freaking.fantastic! This book just solidified Ashley Funk as an auto-read author for me. I completely binge-read it in one sitting and now I want to just pick it back up and re-read the entire thing again!

Riley's life has fallen apart. After losing her job and receiving a wedding invitation from her ex, she escapes to a small town to visit her sister.

Despite her decision to have a "no-man summer," Riley keeps crossing paths with Carter, the annoyingly good-looking mechanic who seems to push all the right buttons.

But you know what they say about the line between love and hate...

Things I loved:
Enemies to Lovers
Dual POV
Fake dating
The meet-cute
Small town vibes
Mini-bears
The FLIRTING!!!
That first kiss...and the second kiss...
Watching fireworks
The prank war
The softball game
“I’d choose you over anyone, any day.”

There was so much chemistry between Riley and Carter that there were practically sparks coming off the page every time they were together. Such a binge-worthy romcom about two people who have to learn to take a chance on love...after they learn how to get along.

Absolute 5 stars. If you are looking for a new sweet rom-com author to try, you just found her!

I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.

You know what I love most about Ashley's books? I laugh throughout the entire novel. Literally, laugh-out-loud style. I love the characters Riley and Carter. They are rich, in-depth, and somehow stay true to who they are while making leaps and strides in their character development by the end!

Ok, *spoilers...* (don't read from here if you don't want to know!)

Can I say how refreshing it was to just have Carter kiss the girl right up front?! It was one of my top 3 favorite parts. He saw his opening, he felt the feels, and he did it. THANK YOU. And shirtless Carter was definitely a nice touch! The softball scene was probably my very favorite. Watching Riley in her element, showing off her skills and Carter's reaction. LOVED. IT. Their slow and gentle (yet passionate... how did Ashley do that?!) fake-dating style relationship- you knew up front it was real for them both, even if Riley wouldn't admit it at first. It was dreamy and swoony in all the right places.

The grandpa (pops) was so endearing, and all the scenes with Riley's nieces made me feel like I was at the park in need of my own burger and shake. So well done!

And now I'm going to go dream of Sherman Pines and how I can move my family there.

I loved getting to know two wonderfully wholesome characters! This was a great way to do a funny and sweet story. I wasn’t expecting to experience a wide range of emotions, but that’s a good thing! From instant animosity to tolerance to love this has a sure fire way of tugging on any romance reader’s heartstrings. This closed door romance had chemistry by a tow-load!

The paper back is out now and it’s available on Kindle 5/17!

My Opinion:
This was such a lovely read. The main characters are great, the story is fun, cute and fast paced. Carter is already in my Top Book-Boyfriends list, I was swooning so much over him (Am I swooning over books too much or am I too single? - Don't need to answer that). I like the setting, the funny and emotional scenes. It's very balanced, the tropes were well represented and I was engaged until the end. I'm looking to read more from Ashley.
