Doctor's Surprise Twins

Rate this book
Derek never learned he was becoming a father.
My guilt and his misconceptions made it so much harder,
And when he delivers my twins, our twins,
That one icy night seems to seal our fate forever.

I once drew hearts around his name.
We pushed the boundaries of our fine lines,
But he was my brother’s best friend—
Off-limits and out of reach.

Years later, the story hasn’t changed.
Derek is a OB-GYN at my new hospital,
As sexy and self-assured as ever,
But our stolen moments aren’t just a PR nightmare.

My heart isn’t the only one I need to protect,
And I refuse to be a pawn in a lovers’ game.
No matter what he says or does,
Life won’t wait for him to realize the truth.

How did our story end up like this?
Did I fool myself into hoping for a better ending,
Or will those tempting amber eyes finally see
That we are worth fighting for?

The story was lacking

Man…the inconsistencies in the book bug the crap out of me. The biggest one was the timeline. Maggie was 12 weeks (3 months) along when she left Yellow Springs. She said that a few months after she moved to Evansville, she finally found a OB and she was 27 weeks along (about 6.5-7 months). Then, her next chapter cuts to 5 MONTHS later and it says that she is only 30 weeks. Ummm, I’m pretty sure that’s not how time works unless you are in an alternate universe where time moves differently there. Also, was the boy’s name Jensen or Jenson. Every time you turned around the spelling changed. In the epilogue, she asked Derek about the birthing center that he had apparently been staying in Evansville for 2 days out of the week to work on. It was made to seem like she heard from her dad who heard from his dad at church and she had no idea. Pretty sure if they had been living together/co-parenting for even a short amount of time, that detail probably would have come up in conversation.

The storyline lacked any real depth for me. Maggie was very pushy of her desire to be with Derek even though he repeatedly told her that they couldn’t be together. She would push. He wouldn’t really protest. They would have their fun (where he would leave her to clean herself up), and then go on their merry way. This happened multiple times with little to no conversation. You didn’t get much of a character backstory on either of them aside from they both lost their mothers and they made out in high school. You get a little bit more of Derek’s life in college, but that’s about it.

Story seemed to be strictly drama and smut. Left a lot to be desired.

wow Dr. D and Maggie were on fire 🔥🔥🧯most of this book. I was a little confused by timing and geography references. But I liked the rural locale. Their hangups although petty felt authentic to the characters. The twin birth was OTT drama as was most of Maggie and Derek’s relationship. Derek was not the gentle type of Dr. he was a wham bam thank you, mam type. A real beast in the great stable scene. 😲I truly enjoyed this messy baby Daddy Doctor story.

I do not like a Prologue that takes place in the future of the book. That is a HUGE spoiler for me. I enjoyed the story but should have skipped to chapter 1.

I don’t usually write reviews, but when I do they’re usually hate fueled.

Let me preface by saying this books is RIDICULOUS.

I’m supposed to believe that an OB, head of the obstetrics department and a nutritionist, simply CANNOT think about contraception before fucking?

Really? For real?

Also, a grown ass man is afraid to get into a relationship with a woman he apparently cannot control himself around because HER BROTHER doesn’t want it?
“Mimimi, booo hooo”

I don’t think these two imbeciles had sex on a bed once in the book

Also you get knocked up and like a responsible adult you RUN AWAY so you don’t have to tell the father.
Or your family.

Then you’re like 30 weeks pregnant with twins in severe pain and you think “cool I’ll take a bath, (when pregnant women aren’t supposed to take baths), so OF COURSE when the pain gets worse you just decide to SLEEP IT OFF.
Cool cool cool.

Also this bitch didn’t get PRENATAL care so the father wouldn’t find out.
BTW they had sex when she was like 10 weeks preggo again with twins and he DIDNT notice any changes in her body?

Oh cool little fact: she throws herself at him, literally because “we are hot for each other and adults, so we can fuck” then IMMEDIATELY goes to I LOVE YOU. Why don’t you love me back.

Also doesn’t communicate feelings at all.

Man do I hate this book.
The characters, the story, everything single thing.

Will NEVER read anything by this author again.

One star because I can't give a minus star

This book was one of the worst written books I have read in such a long time. Its like a man had written it! The baseline of the story has great potential but the steamy scenes were written so badly.. no woman would think like the main character did in this book. Plus what woman would pleasure herself in a bath with a shampoo bottle while 30 weeks pregnant? What a load on nonsense, I kept hoping it would get better but it didn't.

A Life Destined To Be Lived -
Maggie and Curt had been attracted to each other since their teenage years, but her brother took the stance that a friend's sibling is off-limit, so he put a stop to their budding relationship. However, fate brought them back together as adults and working together brought them closer again, as their attraction still hadn’t waned.

Unfortunately, Curt placed a stipulation on their interactions, which caused Maggie to leave her home and job when she got life changing news. Curt discovered Maggie’s secret when they accidentally met during a scary time for Maggie, which made him realise he couldn’t live without Maggie in his life and that he had to fight for her and tell her how he felt.

The storyline was filled with so much drama and steamy encounters, but watching the ups and downs of their relationship from a crush to being a family with each page turn, made this book a lot more of a worthwhile read. It is a definite must read book.

Doctor's Surprise Twins, Book 1 of the Forbidden Doctors series, was about Magnolia "Maggie" Brock, a nutritionist, and Dr. Derek Holt, a doctor of gynecology. (Derek was 4 years older than Maggie. Although the author didn't reveal the actual ages of her characters, several references in the story led the reader to the conclusion that the FMC was at least 26, and the MMC was in his early to mid-30s.)

Let me preface this by saying this book was entirely too long. Without the overflow of fluff-n-stuff, the story could have ended at least 17 chapters sooner. The whole thing was an information dumb...and most of that was not even relevant to the storyline or plot.

The prologue opened with the birth of Maggie's twins, but then Chapter 1, and all of the following chapters, jumped back in time to a year earlier. It wasn't until Chapter 30 that the book finally caught up to the prologue.

Derek had been the BFF to Maggie's brother in high school and the two of them had both crushed on each other...until Derek got the crap beaten out of him by his BFF for making out with his kid sister. Years later, Maggie had applied for a position at a wellness clinic that happened to be the place run by Derek.

When Maggie was told by Derek one time too often that a relationship between them was inappropriate, she took matters into her own hands, quit, and moved away with only a letter of resignation sent to HR. He didn't find out until after a week too late to stop her. But what he didn't know, and she believed she couldn't tell him, was that she was pregnant with his baby. By that time, Derek had finally admitted to himself how he truly felt about Maggie, but he had lost the opportunity to tell her.

When the two main characters started being intimate the MMC seemed to only use the FMC for sex. After each spicy scene, he refused to touch or kiss her. Something she noticed quite early in their affair. after another round of spiciness, Maggie told Derek he could consider her his "safe place" any time he needed to vent about something. When he asked what she meant, she said that's what you did when you care about someone. It was at that point he told her that what was between them was just sex and friendship, but would never be anything more. Although that tore her heart in two, all I could think was, "Well, what did you expect? YOU were the one who pushed the relationship to be more than boss/employee. HE told you he didn't date anyone in the office.". She had no one to blame but herself at that point.

There was so much angst and drama in this book that it was OTT. The flow of the story was choppy and difficult to navigate at times. But the worst part was the unhealthy relationship between the two main characters. Sure there was sexual chemistry between them, but that was pretty much all they had, and they spent their time banging each other. There wasn't any "relationship" to speak of outside of work, thanks to the MMC's work policy of not dating anyone from his office.

It didn't feel as though the two main characters were fully developed or mature. They both seemed to be stunted in their growth at the ages of 16 and 20 when they first "made out", especially the MMC, who seemed to be stuck in his hurt feelings where his mother was concerned. Although there was plenty of room for growth, the author didn't seem to allow that for either of the main characters. Oh, they moved on and owned up to their responsibilities, but that seemed all they did. There was no true reckoning in their characters.

One thing I didn't like about this book was that the FMC was a bit pushy when it came to the relationship between her and the MMC. He had pointed out to her that he had established a "no inter-office dating" policy, but because she wanted him, she pretty much forced him to break his own rule. While I enjoy reading about a strong woman, it's another thing to read about her being pushy and overbearing. It came across more as sexual harassment than being a forward-thinking, independent, modern woman.

I only gave this a two-star rating. It was too long, the characters were too underdeveloped, and nothing about their "relationship" seemed authentic.

I really enjoyed this book. Maggie was strong and proud. She tried for as long as she could to make Derek admit there was something real between them. When she decided it wasn't going to work she cut her losses and left. Fate had other plans for them and Derek ends up delivering her twins. Many of the characters did soul searching and made turn arounds. Although Derek constantly denied they had a connection that was stronger than some hot spicy private times...said private times were indeed spicy. Good Fun Read.

Stupid selfish heroine

There are only 3 good reasons for a heroine to keep a child from its father - 1. The hero would cause the child or mother harm (and not the whiny he didn't want a relationship and broke my heart crap - cry me a river)
2. The heroine is being threatened by a third party if she reveals the child (and even this must be written properly)
3. Amnesia/Doesn't know the father's identity

Otherwise you have a monumentally selfish heroine that I just can't root for. It makes me want the father to sue for custody and then find a new heroine.

I *never* came around to be on the heroine's side here. She was an idiot.

This is a terrible story. I think the author needed to work a little longer on developing the characters relationship as opposed to just sex. Terrible sex. I can’t believe she had her mastúrbatelo to a shampoo bottle. WTF! The reasoning for keeping him from his kids was sooo juvenile. He delivered the damn babies. Fess up. There was just no oxygen getting to this woman’s brain. He should have sued for custody because she was too dumb!

Magnolia “Maggie” Brock & Derek Holt have had it bad for each other since high school, only having been kept apart by Curt, Maggie’s protective older bro & Derek’s friend. So when Maggie starts working at Derek’s private practice, it’s clear their feelings haven’t let up. Despite Derek’s no-dating policy, that goes out the window in short order & shock to no one reading this book, Maggie gets knocked up & has to keep it a secret from everyone, despite the fact she got herself into that mess by disrespecting Derek’s personal & professional boundaries. She leaves town to maintain the secret but Derek goes full-blown stalker mode to find out where she went.

I found both main characters to be insufferable & emotionally immature, which is why I said it’s like they’re back in high school. Maggie still has that schoolgirl crush on Derek & when he breaks her heart she plays mind games with him, a super petty & childish move. Derek meanwhile is dealing with broken savior complex & survivor’s guilt from losing his mom two years prior & has strained relationships with his dad & younger brother because of it. They frequently send mixed signals, with Maggie always giving in to Derek’s advances & Derek always seeking her out for sex despite his work policy. Neither one knows how to communicate with each other & that made me want to bitch slap them both; yes I get no conflict= no story but it was beyond frustrating having to watch them both whine about each other & their individual circumstances.

I also found the MMC to be more fleshed out than the FMC though not by much. Much of Maggie’s POV revolves around Derek & wanting to pleasure herself just thinking about him (& she does…many times), while Derek’s POV shows him going through his own grief journey in a clearly misguided way. He’s very much a fixer—since he failed to help his mom, once Maggie enters his life he becomes obsessed with wanting her to the point he practically has to stalk her to try to win her back. Based on synopses & reviews of other works by this author, the ending is far from spoiler-y because it’s all part of a tired old formula she’s not afraid to use throughout her works: taboo romance with lots of sex scenes to the point of being cheap erotica, lots of conflict where the characters prove exactly why they shouldn’t be together, & a predictably happily-ever-after ending that we as the readers are just supposed to believe to be plausible. There’s even an extended epilogue that’s supposed to hook us into this universe where a secondary FC now gets her own love story arc, but I found it entirely unnecessary. If cheap formulaic taboo erotica is your thing, go wild on this series. Would not recommend though.

The Challenges of Family and Friend Conflicts When Mingled with Romance

When Magnolia—Maggie—Brock applies for a position with the Yellow Spring OB-GYN’s as a nurse, she wants a job. As a recent graduate of NYC with a degree in nursing, she was ready to put her education to work—and re-pay college loans. But, when she discovers that the practice’s lead physician, Derek Holt, is none other than her high school crush and her brother, Curt’s best friend, she feels that it is fated.

Maggie has desired Derek since before she truly understood sexual desire. And, he had been sensitive to her lack of confidence about her curvy figure, assuring her that any high school boy who would reject her for her size, wasn’t man enough for her attention. And, through high school and college she had held onto the dream of Derek as a man who could appreciate and honor her as a big, beautiful woman worthy of attention and love.

But, unfortunately, Derek is a professional, a man of honor, and her brother’s best friend. So, while Derek is willing and happy to offer Maggie—beautiful, dark haired and lushly erotic Maggie—a job in his clinic, he must be certain that their relationship remains professional to protect his reputation and his personal friendship relationship with Curt. And the moment she affirms his expectations of professionalism, he realizes that he is trapped—he would never be able to resist her beauty and sweetness, so as a result, he would receive the beating that brother Curt had begun all those years earlier when Derek had first admitted his attraction for the beautiful 16-year-old sister.

I enjoyed the romance, but felt exasperation with the increasingly complicated storyline of family tensions, religious values, the bro-code and romantic love. I received this romance through BookSprout, but also bought a copy for my Kindle collection.

Magnolia (Maggie) Brock takes a job as a nutritionist at Women’s Wellness, the clinic started by Derek Holt. Derek Holt is Maggie’s brother Curt’s best friend growing up. He and Maggie made out quite a few times until Curt caught them. He told Maggie that Derek is off limits and told Derek that Maggie is off limits.

They are still attracted to each other but Derek has a no dating co-workers policy in place. However, one night they give in to their mutual attraction. Maggie falls back in love with Derek like she did when she was younger. After quite a few other encounters, Derek tells Maggie that it is just sex and friendship. She is crushed. When she finds out she is pregnant, Maggie runs away.

Maggie doesn’t tell anyone especially Derek because she doesn’t want to ruin Derek’s career or reputation and she doesn’t want to ruin his friendship with her brother Curt.

What happens when Derek realizes he’s an idiot and loves Maggie? What happens when Maggie goes into labor with the twins and Derek has to do an emergency C-section to save her and the babies? Will they get their happily ever after?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story from start to finish. Loved the chemistry between Maggie and Derek.

Derek and Maggie tell the story of Doctor's Surprise Twins in alternating chapters. They only know how to communicate between the sheet but mainly elsewhere. Where's a bed when you need one?

They've had an attraction since they were both in high school. He's her brother's best friend and her brother made sure they both knew the other was off limits. When their paths cross again many years later at the place they're both employed they act on their attraction since they're older and wiser. There's a no-dating office policy and Derek's the boss. But they still sneak around until Maggie decides she needs her space and takes a job a few hours away.

I enjoyed the family relationships even if some were dysfunctional and I'm glad Maggie has a best friend although she's even in the dark about some things. There are twists and turns to the story but the sex overshadowed the story for me. There are multiple stories being told that are nicely woven together but there are some inconsistencies that were hard for me to get past. There is a happily ever after nicely portrayed and the second epilogue gives a hint of what's to come next.

Ms. Summers is an author who takes me out of my comfort zone but this book was more about the sex, their secretiveness and Maggie's lies.

Finally True Love

This author is anew-to-me author. I loved the characters (flaws and all). The author did a great job of keeping a good flow in the story. Both Derek and Maggie have lost theirs mothers in tragic ways, and this bonds them.
Having known each other for years, there had always been an attraction to each other. Derek being the best friend of Maggie’s brother, caused problems for their relationship. Once Maggie began working for Derek’s clinic, they were able to begin a hidden relationship. Derek constantly saying that it was just fun times, began to hurt Maggie’s feelings. When she becomes pregnant, she makes the decision to run, and keep the pregnancy hidden from Derek.
When she goes into labor, only one doctor is available to deliver her babies, and it is Derek. Maggie continues to deny his fatherhood, and returns to stay at her father’s house. Maggie’s brother continues to probe and try to figure out who is the father of the twins. He confronts Derek, and the truth is revealed.
The couple reunite, and admit their true feelings for each other and finally obtain their HEA.

Doctor's Surprise Twins is a brother's best friend/second chance at love romance.

It follows Derek and Maggie who have known each other since childhood.
Derek was her childhood crush and her brother Curt's high-school best friend. After almost hooking up her brother threatened Derek that she was off limits.
Now ten years later they are brought back together when she applies to a job in a clinic not knowing it was his.
The chemistry they felt for each other is still there after all these years yet he is determined to keep things professional. That is until Maggie turns the table and he can't resist. Only life, past hurts, office politics, family and old friendships are determined to keep them apart. Their story is one of forbidden office romance, misunderstandings, heartache, and a secret unexpected pregnancy.
A sweet romance with a bit of drama to keep you turning the page till the end.

This is part of the Forbidden Doctors Series but can be read as a standalone. Derek and Maggie were so attracted to each other and their chemistry was off the charts. He was her brother's best friend and when he caught them kissing he made it clear that she was off limits. Years later she ends up working in his OBGYN office and they meet secretly but she leaves town when she finds out she is expecting. A lot of drama and some sad times. This book is very emotional and will take you all over the place. When he ends up delivering the twins and saves all their lives does he realize they are his? When does he connect the dots and realize he loves her? Does her brother continue to interfere? A great book that will capture your attention right at the beginning. Well written with good characters and an engaging story line. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I liked this book despite a lot of drama between MMC and FMC. I feel like they could have just cleared the air a bit more.

Magnolia (FMC) is a strong opinionated woman who isn't afraid to chase after what she wants. And what she wants his her brothers BFF Derek. They went to high school and had a budding relationship until her brother pulled the "my sister is off limits" card. Years later Derek hires Magnolia to be a nutritionist in his practice. The spark is still there. Derek is vollyballing back n forth Magnolia knows she still wants Derek. When she becomes pregnant she runs, hiding that she is pregnant for the fear of not only will Derek reject their baby but that he could lose his dream and it would be her fault. So in order to protect both herself and him she decides to move to another town close to home. When Derek finds out he stops at nothing to figure out if those babies are his.

This story starts out with the dramatic birth of Maggie’s twins when her ex-lover and the father of her babies delivers her twins via C-section. The story then jumps back in time to the beginning of their relationship.

I’d rather follow the relationship from the beginning, because I really wasn’t fond of either character after the prologue - her keeping the twins paternity a secret when he asks her and him for whatever he did to make her run away from him pregnant.

Their relationship is steamy, angsty and full of drama due to her brother’s relationship with Derek and his anger at them when he caught them making out when she was a teenager.

This is angsty and drama filled story that is entertaining and enjoyable.

This is a mess

The book just doesn’t make sense. I don’t come from a medical field but the timing of the pregnancy doesn’t make sense. I don’t think Derek would have been allowed to operate on Maggie if they worked together as doctors.

Maggie also reads like a sixteen year old character. Her job interview is unprofessional and she overshares. She jumps into her job and is willing to break the rules of the hospital/practice to sleep with Derek because of her childhood crush. And yes, Derek wants her too, but she’s blantant about it and is in o way serious about her work.

I’m typically not this harsh when I review, but this just lacking across the board and the review ratings were what swayed me and ratingsdid not match the book.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Magnolia "Maggie" Brock & Derek Holt. When this book opens we find Maggie in full blown labor. The problem is her doctor is out of town so she has to use the on-call doctor. The only problem with this is it is Derek and she hasn't told them they are expecting babies. From the moment Derek learns it is Maggie he is helping to deliver her babies he wonders if they are his kids. No matter how many times he asks he knows there is something she is not telling him about these kids. Can they find a HEA or will past hurts make that impossible?

Another amazing story by this author. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

When their relationship has Magnolia ending up pregnant, she moves away. Derek realizes his feelings for her and goes in search only to find himself operating on Magnolia to save them. A well written romance. Summers delivers a sweet and steamy second chance, contemporary romance. Our main characters are Derek and Magnolia who have known each other for so many years. Both engage in a hidden relationship which results in a pregnancy. Maggie runs, without telling Derek what's going on and Derek realizes a little too late how strong his love for her is. Can he find her and win her before it's too late? Sweet, steamy a bit of a forbidden romance that is well written and sure to please!

Maggie and Derek were attracted to each other in high school but her brother puts an end to it as Derek is his best friend. Ten years later a relationship is off limits again as they’re co-workers. But you can’t hold back chemistry like theirs. Maggie moves suddenly, luckily Derek finds her in time for life saving surgery. When she disappears again Derek finally realises that they’re more than ‘friends with benefits’ and he must find her again to prove it. Twists and turns, sadness, misunderstandings, secrets, heartache, and a HEA.
