Plan the trip of a lifetime with expert advice and a full itinerary from Australia's most popular travelling family.
In the seven years since the 'Trip In A Van' family set off on their first adventure, they've covered tens of thousands of kilometres and become Australia's most popular travelling family.
This complete guide is jam-packed with every lesson they've learned during their four laps of Australia and is a must-read for anyone roadtripping the continent on four (or eight) wheels. Bec and Justin reveal everything you need to know about travelling Australia in a caravan, van, camper trailer or motorhome - from choosing your set-up and essential travel gear to packing lists, life admin, budgeting and home-schooling.
They've also created a detailed itinerary for every state and territory in Australia, with their personal recommendations for activities, caravan parks and free camping sites, plus special roadtrip spotlights for when you're short on time but still looking for an incredible getaway.
Great starting point if you want to do a lap or two of Australia. Not being from an outdoors background I found it easy to read and came across a lot of tips that would have never crossed my mind to ask.
Good starting point when considering a lap around Australia. Found the information section (before the location info) repetitive. Can tell that some was written by Justin and some by Beck. Overall helpful but could be better and it is really good for mapping out a plan for the tackling the lap.
The sections on where to go/ what to see in each state were good, but the rest of it …. nah, buy a good ‘down to earth’ travel book instead. This is aimed at yuppies who have a spare couple of hundred thousand $ to ‘get back to basics ’ The advice you MUST have a washing machine/hand held vacuum etc isn’t really helpful for Mum and Dad Average-people who have saved super hard for years and years to buy a big tent -because they really want to take the kids on an adventure, but can’t afford all the bells and whistles. Not many people are going to pack up and head off indefinitely, lots of people do three or six months or whatever time they can afford- this book isn’t really for normal every day people like that- I think it would actually scare them off as they’d feel they couldn’t follow all the advice on their budget eg $450-$550 a week on food !!! Our trip in the (second hand) camper trailer up the west coast of Australia and the NT for three months with the kids was awesome. OMG ! No private washing machine, toilet, shower, - we had to mix with other plebs like us- a great way to meet fellow travellers. Sorry if this sounds really negative- the photos were great, especially the drone shots & a lot of the advice was good. I just felt it was aimed at a very niche market.
