Jay was merely an abandoned butcher's son, living in a small village on the outskirts of a magical medieval world. He was a nobody, a passing thought.
When humans came of age, they would receive their class from a mana conduit which granted them magic powers, and would begin their lives as adventurers.
Slaying monsters on a pursuit of strength; it was what he dreamed of - but he would find much more than such trivial rewards.
“Status” thought Jay, checking his class.

“...I'm a Necromancer?!” he was shocked.
Looking around in fear, he was glad no one heard him.
In this world, this was a monster class, and one of the more powerful monsters at that; a powerful being which, using profane magic, raised the dead to fight on its behalf.
Jay knew he would be hunted down and killed on sight. He was not just a threat to the authority of the nobles, but to all living things.
If he wants to live, Jay now has only one option - to get stronger; building his necrotic powers so that he may one day become untouchable. This world has placed him at the bottom, but will he defy its order?
Through plotting, secrecy, and sometimes by sheer carnage, he can only attempt to survive in this hostile world.
Join Jay as he struggles against all odds and misfortune, against a world that wants him dead, as he secretly rises and bends this world to his will.

so slow
So I’m on the 6th book and dude is still on his SECOND dungeon and just to make sure I got this right over 6 books and it’s only been what a week in the series PROGRESS THE DAMN PLOT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD

No growth in the writing.
Character work and transitions are the same since book one. The combat is muddled at best, it is a chore to read. The storyline that are introduced are tattered and haphazard. There is no continuity between anything, threads that are not being focused on just sit in a corner until they are called. This is in desperate need of a good editor.

Five books... where's this going?
After five books I'm still unsure where this story is headed. Neither do I think 22 books will be enough to get there.
Don't get me wrong. I haven't been bored. Nor anxiously pulling my hair out because tensions being drawn out.
After 5 books I'd expect more progress. Either that or a hyper serialized series where there's no end in sight for the number of books. I do think the book covers the boss battles, dungeons, and fights in too much detail but not because they've bored me. At least not too terribly. It's because it shows every indication of getting stuck in the details and missing the whole point of the series at some point.
The way the class is developing is pretty fun and I'd love to see him go to that school and really establish himself. But will he get to? Will he ever open up to Anya? Will the witch hunters catch onto him despite there being every indication that they won't be able to, not in any reasonable length of time anyways? Five books in and I have no clue.
A quarter through the entire series. At it's current rate I'd expect him to get settled into the 3rd academy around the end of the 22nd book. Or will things get pulled and streched or compressed unnaturally? Or, perhaps, a time skip? Maybe? Perchance?
I honestly can't recommend it at this time... neither can I discourage. We'll see where it goes. Fingers crossed.

Another good book.
The story continues on. Jay gets into adventures and they are interesting to read about. I'm loving how his skeletons are turning out. I can't wait to continue to the next book in the series.
