Navy SEAL.

Mercenary.

Ghost.

Joining the military wasn't a choice, it was survival. The Navy was the last place they’d think to look for me. Hiding in plain sight, I lived in the shadow of deployments… until an off-the-books mission put me in the crosshairs of my past.

My cover blown, I walked away from the SEALs and sought refuge at the one place where I'd be more invisible than on the Teams—Alpha Elite Security. As a Black Ops government contractor, AES was the world's leading provider of security solutions. High stakes, higher price tag, and complete anonymity. Taking any AES assignment that guaranteed action, trained to kill long before the military put a gun in my hand, I fit right in.

But then I made a mistake. A single misstep and I was face to face with the one woman who could kill me faster than a bullet.

Code Echo.
Evade.

Dnf 30%?

Ditched this when I read that the h was r@ped by H’s bro and I think he didn’t know that? What boggled me was she went to the bro when the H put her in the pilot’s hand to ensure her safety and before that she was assaulted by the other bro and she knew that the men with his last name was dangerous, like gurllll… I know you’re sheltered and all but I refused to believe you’re that stupid? Anyway I don’t want to blame the victim of SA but this is beyond stupid.

UGH! So Many Issues With This Book!

Once again, we have a main character with the. EXACT. SAME. PERSONALITY. AS. EVERY. MAN. IN. THIS. SERIES! You could take any character and drop them in any other book in this series, and if you did not include their name, you literally wouldn't be able to tell the main character had been replaced except that some talk more than others. That's just bad, lazy writing.
Every single one of these main characters regularly pull guns on their friends and coworkers and threaten to murder them for even speaking the name of the woman they like, or looking at her, or commenting on their relationship, etc. Which is BEYOND excessive and a major, serious-as-a-heart-attack red flag of a violent, overly controlling, insanely jealous person who clearly has some kind of severe psychiatric problems! Otherwise, someone speaking to their love interest wouldn't incite them to murder. That's something psychopaths and horrifically abusive control freaks do. It's not "dominance," and it's certainly not romantic! If a guy did that around me, I'd run so far and so fast that you wouldn't even see the blur behind my retreating backside!

Also, there is no way on God's green earth that anyone acting this insane over a person simply touching their woman (even when it's Talon when he's trying to give medical care to said Injured woman), someone with so little self control and discipline would've ever made it through the psych eval going into the military and the further tests and evaluations getting onto a Special Forces team. Nutjob psychos like these guys get filtered out. Maybe a fraction are such good sociopaths that they manage to slip through, but EVERY SINGLE GUY? Everyone who served under Alpha during their time as SEALS works for him now at AES, and there's literally no way every single one of them managed to hide this from the military shrinks! That's as massively impossible as every. Single. Guy having the EXACT SAME personality, the EXACT SAME sexual preferences, and the EXACT SAME mannerisms. To write characters like this simply pushes the reader so far out of the suspension of disbelief that's necassary when reading fiction, taking the most dramatic license ever, that you can't even read this story without constantly rolling your eyes and sighing! Characters still have to be believable if you're writing them on Earth in the present day.

Don't get me wrong, Sybil Bartel is absolutely a talented writer. You have to be to come up with these twisty plots that have incredible details of military, geographical, medical, and technological knowledge and terminology--not to mention the ability to interweave the plots from book to book. So I really don't understand why she seems to be incapable of writing individual characters with their own separate identities, personalities, traits, and predilections.

Yes, I get that these books are all in the "alpha male, D/s" genre (which, PLEASE people! Do NOT get your impression of BDSM or the D/s lifestyle from the sh*t show that these male characters put on!), but even so,no two people on earth act virtually identical! For the love of God, make each character distinctive instead of expecting your reader to believe that within a business of several dozen employees, EVERYBODY is exactly the same! It's statistically impossible and makes for crappy reading. We also have to believe that the military would've actually allowed them on the Teams where discipline, self-control, and mental stability are a must or people get killed!

Also, I just can't buy that Echo specifically was an actual SEAL when he's fled AES to get Sancia out of New York and have her disappear because a mob boss is after her at that very moment; yet he's standing on the tarmac making phone calls, sending texts, having unnecassary, stupid conversations with Victor (who he threatens, big surprise) instead of hustling Sancia straight into the aircraft and getting into queue to take off! Literally, nobody with any lick of sense, let alone a former mafia enforcer/ex-Navy SEAL, would stand around under those circumstances! At the very least, he should've been multitasking and did all that while he was walking Sancia on board!
Those pages were the most aggravating, unbelievable, and maddening I've ever read! And wouldn't you know it? The fifteen minutes he stood around like an inexperienced idiot bites them in the ass when Vincenzo shows up, and it's a fifteen minute wait to take off!

Finally, there's the played out trope of two people having a misunderstanding that a simple, two minute conversation could've solved! Instead of Echo ASKING Sancia what happened after he left her, he assumes and holds her at gunpoint. Sancia could've easily explained what Ademaro did to her: the forced marriage and consummation, his threats, being a virtual prisoner, only being kept alive as a scapegoat. If THAT'S the only way you can create dramatic tension and further your plot, go back to the drawing board and rework the plot or quit writing!

Echo and Sancia

Such a good book! Fast paced and action packed - I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish it, first time I've done that in ages! The intricate details that Ms. Bartel weaves are amazing, making "aha!" moments of connections to previous books, just masterful!

Echo by Sybil Bartel
Released on 3-28-23

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Echo is an action packed, crazy thrill ride of a book and I loved every minute of it! Echo (the MMC) is an almost over the top anti-hero, but he is countered by the lovely and reserved Sancia to give him balance. If you can't get enough of ex-military, second chances, forced proximity, mouth watering Alphas, on the edge of your seat action, and just enough steam, then Echo will deliver everything you want to read and more! 5 Stars!

MIND BLOWING AS ALWAYS

ECHO SYBIL BARTEL

Echo is a sniper. He was known as the ‘Enforcer’ for the Mantovani Famiglia in Palermo, Sicily. He hates his eldest brother, Don Giancarlo with a passion and with good reason. He kills those who ‘threaten’ the family with a coldness and discipline instilled in him by their late father when Echo was only 7. At that age, he made his first kill. And that is who he is. Having fled Sicily with a “kill-on-sight” decree hanging over him, he became a SEAL and is now a respected member of the Alpha Elite Services (AES)the company owned by former SEAL Adam “Alpha”Trefor.
Sancia Santoro is just shy of 18 when the sheltered artist sees Echo at her father’s estate outside Palermo. He looks up at her window as she looks down. She sketches a drawing of him which she offers up to him. They begin a friendship over a burner cell he gives her. He knows what she doesn’t. Her deathly ill father is bargaining her away to his older brother Giancarlo. Part One of their story ends in tragedy, miscommunication and major screwups for them both. No spoiler here.
Part Two begins 9 years later. Sancia arrives at AES covered in the blood of her late husband, Ademaro Mantovani. Who killed him? Why did she marry him? Why wasn’t she in the safe house Echo had provided 9 years earlier. What doesn’t she want to tell him? Why is he so angry? And why is his anger directed towards Sancia? Who is trying to kill her? What is her connection to the Costa Nostra? Why is she in NYC? Questions.. so many questions but is ECHO willing to let her share her truths? She has loved him since the first moment 9 years ago.
Sybil Bartel once again takes readers on a fascinating non-stop journey. Readers familiar with the series will note the appearances of many of the AES from previous books. How they will come together with humor and respect and help Echo keep her safe at all costs. There is witty dialogue, painful truths to be uncovered, hope restored and destroyed. Strong antagonists and protagonists as one comes to expect from Ms Bartel’s books. And the journey these characters are on is imperfect and yet befitting a young woman hellbent of saving the one person she has loved and the very flawed ECHO. Once again, readers won’t be able to put this book down. Twists and turns within their journey. Will love survive? Will they? 10 stars.

ECHO - One of Sybil Bartel's best!

There were many references to Echo in Sybil's previous Alpha Elite series; but I wasn't expecting Echo's own story to be so dark. I was immediately sucked into his life - past and present. An Enforcer, a hitman - a killer.
Sybil writes with panache. She infuses all of these handsome, sexy Alpha men with duty and honour, as well as a lethal force to be reckoned with. Echo has these qualities - and more. An ex-Navy SEAL and part of the TEAMS, he is Sicilian-born and raised in the Cosa Nostra - and sworn by the Mafia's 'omerta'.

ECHO is a story that didn't draw me in - it PULLED me in!

ECHO has a hardened and profound sense of humanity. He answers to no one.
That is, until he meets a beautiful young woman named Sancia, living a sheltered life and unaware of her dangerous surroundings. The direct opposite of Echo's bloody history.
As the story literally jumps from page to page, Echo is struck by a deeply personal need to protect this woman at all costs.
There are three 'famiglias' desperate to get their hands on her, and the rest of this mindblowing book just HAS to be read!
I defy anyone who picks up ECHO, will not be able to put it down!
I was half expecting each page would catch fire, it was so hot!
It has all the action, intrigue and intricate elements plus an awesome amount of steamy, hot tension between Sancia and Echo.
Enjoy this masterpiece by Sybil Bartel.
***If I was ever in danger, I would more than love a six foot six, tattooed, muscled Alpha-dominant to take out the enemy - and then me!***
Absolutely loved ECHO.

Another good read

As a fan of this author, I grabbed this one on release day, and happily dug in!

This series is absolutely addictive and easy to get lost inside the dangerous world of these characters.

I have enjoyed all the prior AES stories, and recommend reading this book in the correct reading order to get the most from the characters. Echo has always been somewhat of an enigma- and this provides the why. I really enjoyed it.

This is a second chance love story, and I really enjoyed the drama of the first part. The bloodshed, drama, betrayals, lies, and mistakes made really cemented my attachment to Sancia and Erico. I have a few issues with her character's choices and behaviors, and didn't always like how they were, but overall, I enjoyed this couple.

As always, Alpha and all the guys of AES were the best part of this read for me. I love those characters, and the banter between them.

Oh, and let's not forget about Viking and Talon!! Soo very nice to see them too!!

I really appreciate the creativity of this author, in crafting characters and stories that are steamy, suspenseful, entertaining, and addictive. She continues to be a one-click, no questions asked, release day purchase for me. I look forward to reading the next one in this series.

Echo and Sancia...Mafia ties...OMG

He is an Alpha Elite, he is lethal aka as the Enforcer in the Mantovani Famiglia of Palermo, Sicily. Sancia became her father's only child when her mother and brother were killed. Considering her father was a banker for the Mafia she was kept isolated most of her life. Loved this story. I especially loved the Mafia story plot. Young naive, creative and beautiful, that is who Sancia Santoro was. Sancia and Erico met when Don Giancarlo went to meet with Sancia 's father right before her 18th birthday. She knew her father was dying but there were so many lies and secrets which turned into betrayals that she found out right before his death. Echo hated his brothers especially Giancarlo who was the Don of the family. After rescuing Sancia from a fate with his brother and giving her a way to leave Sicily and for him to leave the family because he killed his brother and his consigliere and left the country. Nine years later things blow up in both their faces when they are reunited in a twist of fate, his other brother was killed along with his consigliere because he had taken over after his brother died. As I said it was a story with a lot of lies, betrayal and secrets.

Sybil does it again

I'm a simple girl. I see a book by sybil I but it more especially if it's on a special. So this is not my favorite one in the series but it still one of my favorite. I loved the heroine so much and I could not help but cry when I saw what she went through. I have to say I've always loved echo in the previous books and I was not disappointed. As always I loved the cameos of my two absolute favorites conlon and talon. If I have to give criticism I'll have to say there was not enough spice. And also the first part the story was unnecessarily long. Lastly I needed more conversation and deeper understanding between the echo and sancia. Having said that I love sybil and I can't wait to read the rest of the series

Echo is a delicious Sicilian surprise. As usual I count down the days until Sybil’s next AES installment, then struggle to fit normal life around devouring the pages loathing any interruptions.
Echo has appeared alongside the other Alpha Elite hero’s and hints have been made towards his protective side but his story will completely tug at your heartstrings. I also love how previous characters pop up and the banter between them all which usually gives us a sneak peek into future Alpha’s.
As always all of Sybil’s books are a one-click but this story, wow, as his name correctly suggests this installment will definitely be a repeat read.

Wow Echo is So intense. Not the book I’m talking about the man. The Book is more. It’s hold on to your seats people because Sybil will blow you away with this beast of a book. There aren’t enough words to adequately explain how I feel about him. If you’re familiar with Sybil’s main men in all her books all I can say is take Dane, Tank, and Shade mix them all together times 10 and you’ll know what he is made of. He does his own thing and there is no denying his Sicilian heritage takes center stage. Sancia is perfect with just enough innocence and vulnerability to capture Echos heart. And yes, Talon and our favorite Vikin makes an appearance.

It was okay. I find I often have trouble enjoying books involving Sicilians. Maybe it's because I'm second-generation Sicilian American, I don't know. The characters just didn't feel right to me. But this may be my problem and not the book's problem.

I also wasn't fond of Sancia. She was sorry about EVERYTHING. There's a difference between being submissive and being perpetually apologetic for things you have no control over.

I really wanted to like this book because I've really enjoyed others in the series and by this author, but this one didn't do it for me.

innocent Steps

Brought to heel by a very young and innocent Woman. His first sighting was in the dark behind an open window. He didn't believe he truly saw the sighting or an Angel. I'm sure you can imagine my sigh....yeah, cause it was on. The suspense and rollercoaster of action that followed kept you engulfed and riveted to every page.I loved the book. This author is awesome so you're left to enjoy the ride!!!

Echo
The Alpha Series book 6
By Sybil Bartel

Well I thought I'd like this book but I just couldn't get into it completely. Echo/Erico is the enforcer for the two rival families in Sicily. But when a dying father decides to give his daughter Sancia to another man Erico stands up and vows to protect her from his brother. However everything doesn't go as planned.

I just couldn't enjoy the book and give a 3.75 star rating.

Four more read

Where to begin?? Romeo, Zulu, November and Echo.....Each book is filled with action that kept me turning the page, singer to keep me swearing at certain characters and situations, and oh my, the sexy talk and scenes I was definitely able to envision. If that wasn't enough, you sprinkled in sarcastic humor, which is a favorite for me. One word, brilliant. Five words, must read all of them.

intense book

I was a little surprised by this book. It started very different than I thought it would. It spans almost a decade so it’s a VERY slow play which I liked but I just didn’t ever feel the “love” but he was an intense mercenary, so he was who he was described to be. He literally changes his identity to protect her. So romantic even though they don’t see each other for nine years. He knows the whole time, she is his.

exciting

This is pure excitement from beginning to end. I wish I spoke Italian to understand the asides better. The characters were well delineated although I’m not sure I would have been as accepting of Echo as Sancia. Plenty of action and dashing all over the world plus the guys from AES . Alpha deserves a medal for putting up with these guys!

Great Read!

ALL kinds of tension!! A hero, his heroine, former special operative military man and so much more! This is a book with plenty of steam and sizzle but it’s also a book of loyalty, comradeship, love and grit. It’s about going to the end with a chosen family rather than a blood bonded one.

A story with a twist. Sancia and Erico ..aka Echo's story was good. His 2 brothers were not so good. Why does everything revolve around money? Now I am curious about what Whiskey's role is and if it is related.

ECHO

Echo is intense. I couldn’t put this down. Some issues could have been solved with a simple conversation but I think the miscommunications highlighted just how far Echo and Sancia were willing to go to protect each other. Another brilliant addition to the AES series.
