An intro to "In This Land" by Matthew Handleman-Time:
Bade, prince of the tiny, overlooked country of Nosupolis, doesn't have a plan for his life. His ambitious older brother Tiko, heir to the throne, seems to have everything under control without Bade or his twin brother's help. Bade hopes to marry well and find some way to be a credit to the crown, but never in his wildest dreams does he expect an invitation to court the Pharaoh of Orina Anoris, the divine ruler of the most powerful country in the world. Bade always thought that Tiko would be the one to change their homeland for the better, but now he has a chance to wed the pharaoh, ally their two nations through marriage, and do more for Nosupolis than anyone in centuries.
Suddenly whisked away by Prince Orinakin, royal diplomat and handsome purple-haired child of the gods, Bade finds himself in an exotic land that dazzles his senses and opens his eyes like never before. The people of Orina Anoris are uninhibited, expressive, flirtatious, and don't seem to know the meaning of sexual repression. The handsome Seven Siblings are no exception. Boyfriends, lovers, harems--it boggles Bade's mind to witness a freedom he never even imagined.
But the endless parade of beautiful men pales in comparison to the Pharaoh Anosukinom. Tall, gorgeous, and physically flawless, Anosukinom's beauty is literally perfection. And if that weren't enough, the rumors are true: he really is both god and man. Crackling with power, intimidating yet friendly, he is as unconventional as he is traditionally Anorian. Daunted in the face of his divinity, Bade isn't sure if he can win the heart of a deity, but at the very least he hopes to bring attention to the plight of his ignored, forgotten country.
After being exposed to a vibrant, colorful new world, nights of sizzling passion, and the possibilities of true love, how can Bade face the thought of being rejected and returning home? Will he be able to win the pharaoh's heart and finally help his people?
Experience the rich, luxurious fantasy world of Orina Anoris only in Matthew Haldeman-Time's series, "In This Land," and watch as eight handsome brothers try to balance ruling a nation with finding true happiness. Find out what happens to Bade, Anosukinom, and the sexiest siblings in the world.
In This Land is a sweeping epic M/M erotic fantasy set in an alternate world, populated by multiple characters, multiple plot lines and is completely addictive. For a taste, the first three chapters are free @ http://www.matthewhaldemantime.com/in... . I started this book on October 22, 2009 and am still reading, currently on my third re-read. It has everything I have ever wanted in a story, or actually multiple stories. Since In This Land is currently 231 chapters long and over 1,500,000 words it is a bargain to subscribe to on a monthly basis.
In This Land takes place mainly in Orina Anoris and is the story of the Pharoh Anosukinom Mutotanosa Situkabulanin Elanilanulanori Banotuda Kudorin A Rituliti, which means Living god among us, highest child of the gods, ruler of all within our borders, most sacred, precious, divine, and holy gift to all in this land, the 182nd, or Kudorin and his seven brothers, the rulers of Orina Anoris.
All I have to say is that if you like M/M, you like fantasy settings and you really like to get to know the characters you are reading about it doesn't get any better than In This Land.
2nd Update: on 5/8/13 -- Caught up to current chapters (now at ch. 343). Been keeping up weekly for the last 4 months or so. Now about 40 or so chapters into the Red Book (Talin & Mir's story). The first 30-35 chapters were really frustrating to me, much more than any of the other stories have been so far. Mir is a tough nut for Talin to crack and their story is so insular and removed from the rest of the world; the other relationships so far were very integrated into the world. It feels like we've lost the other brothers in the shuffle. We haven't seen most of them for a long time now and reading the same argument over and over is difficult, even though it shows just how messed up Mir is. Still, I'm liking it. I don't think that I could not like it at this point, now that I love the story so much and am so invested. Plus, the last 5-10 chapters have really turned around now that Mir is opening up more and it feels like their relationship is FINALLY on the right track. And I'm happy to see the rest of the brothers start to be integrated back into the story more. THANKFULLY. I missed them, all the fun is gone without them. So hopefully, the story won't go back to being stuck in a rut like it was for several months.
Just please, let us get to the Blue book! I wanna see some more Vade please! The Blue Book is going to be a riot, I know it!

1st (Original) Update: on 1/28/12 -- Finally finished and read up to the current chapter written, 277. Been reading for about 3 weeks now, and I'm really addicted to this... Like, maybe in a bad way :-/
19/04/14 Gosh....So, I've been reading ITL for about two years now and I'm still gripped. I would definitely recommend it in its serial form - there is nothing quite like reading the next instalment on a Saturday morning and getting an update from all my favourite characters.
There are definitely come issues with it. As other reviewers have said it is quite long winded and involved but I prefer to view as original fan fiction rather than a traditional novel. That is to say, with fan fiction you don't tend to mind when the author takes time to explore a particular facet of someone's character rather than developing a plot, which is something there is no way you would have the words to do in a traditional novel. So yes, it is occasionally bloated and you do have to get used to something not so fast paced (especially once you are caught up and are waiting for the next chapter) but the character development and world building that you gain are fantastic.
I also occasionally have issues with the presentation of the characters or the language that they are used. There are certain characters for instance which are shown as speaking in a very formal or blunt way which I don't always find realistic. I (very, very) occasionally have to take a break, tell myself this is another world entirely and then come back to it a few weeks later. I remember it taking me a while to get into the first chapters but I do recommend subscribing and carrying on - its worth it.
The erotica is mostly hot, occasionally not (in my opinion, which, especially in the case of erotica is very subjective). For anyone interested it tends to orgy/voyeuristic kinks, with some soft bdsm (bondage, clamps, orgasm denial etc.) but all very enthusiastically consensual - nothing dark here. Even when I don't find the sex hot the whole sexual ethos of the world is fascinating. The story is set in a land which is incredibly sexually free, with there being few limits on what is acceptable and is very thought provoking. As readers we are introduced to the land very much through people from other cultures who have different views on sexuality so we almost take the journey with them. I have even at times found the world uncomfortable or confusing but its definitely made me think about how different ways of living actually look, rather than just the theory. And it is for the most part very hot as well!
I shall stop rambling now! I did want to flag up a few of my issues with ITL so people were aware of what they are getting into (in my opinion) but in the same breath I am still reading it two years on and will continue to do so. The characters are very well developed and interested. They are sympathetic. The world is intriguing and different and the writing is good. I highly recommend ITL, although I would suggest waiting until you have a clear-ish schedule to subscribe because it can be very easy to be sucked into a reading marathon!
Epic. Great characters, great setting, loaded with rich detail, full of interconnecting storylines. Totally engaging and tons of fun. Honestly, I just can't say enough good stuff about this series.

[FYI: You can buy Volumes 1-5 of In This Land on LuLu.com, which I believe only goes up to chapter 77. However, there are currently 291 chapters available under the subscription service at Matthew Haldeman-Time's website, with a new chapter added each week!!]
Re-read all of "Gold Book" chapters published to date 220ish-285ish.
7/2018 The Real World was seriously getting me down, so I re-read the Green Book (to the exclusion of all else in recent times). What a delight.
10/25/2019 As I'm hoping for the best for the author (shit, please take all the time you need to heal up), I'm re-re-re-(re?)reading the Gold book. But only after revisiting delights in the Green, Red - and for the first rereading time - Orange books.
I rated it one star not because I did not like it, but because despite my having signed up to read about 10 days ago, my account information has not been updated and I've had no chance to read anything. Moreover, my emails to have this mistake rectified have gone ignored. If I could give it 0, I would.
The bones of this tale are good ones, so it hurts me in some ways to not continue with it. But there's just too much storytelling going on here. Pare it down to about 25% of its total mass, then you'd have a compelling read.
This is one of the best serials out there - I'm surprised not that many people know of it. Although it's wordy it is definitely worth your time. You get to know each character so well by the end of their book each update is a treasure!!
